The same will go for Stewart Downing if he was purchased. The 26 year old has the ability to play wide left, wide right as well as down the middle. A crucial characteristic which will ensure him game time in a team which will change formation depending on their opponents. The same will go for the likes of Connor Wickham (playing left hand side for Ipswich Town), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (right, left and central midfield) as well as Dejan Lovren (full back and centre back) if they were all signed.
So it seems trying to second guess Kenny Dalglish’s team and formation will be hard for opposition managers, players and fans alike next season. Some might say that we should have an overriding philosophy like Barcelona and set out to play our own way and not think of the opposition. We could do that if we had that much talent, and I’m sure the style of play will be attacking no matter what, but what we will see overall will be a great deal of pragmatism from King Kenny and Steve Clarke. Something that should hold us in good stead next season.
