The speculation surrounding the future of Alberto Aquilani is getting interesting by the day. Aquilani returned back to Liverpool this summer after a loan spell at Juventus. The Italian club refused to sign Aquilani on a permanent basis as they did not want to pay the £14million we had reportedly agreed with them.

Aquilani has been training with Liverpool and went with the squad on the Far East pre-seaon tour where he did very well and it led to many fans calling for Aquilani to stay at the club for this coming season. Whilst some fans still insist that Aquilani should be sold this summer because even if he did well in two pre-seaon games against weak opposition, he is still not cut out for the Premier League. Clearly two groups of fans have emerged when it comes to where Aquilani’s future lies.

Be that as it may, Dalglish has said Liverpool will only make more signings this summer if they get rid of some players first. Aquilani has to be high on the ‘get rid of’ list as he will probably bring in the most money to the club from his sale. The likes of Cole, Poulsen and Ngog, if sold, would not bring in that much cash into the kitty.

Aquilani’s agent early this summer insisted that Aquilani is most likely going to remain at Liverpool this coming season as there were no buyers interested in him for the price Liverpool want. But now it has emerged that Fiorentina are interested in signing Aquilani and they hope a deal could be struck soon. If Fiorentina are really interested it could mean that they are willing to meet or at least get close to Liverpool’s £14million asking price.

However, two obstacles could get in the way of Aquilani’s move to Fiorentina. The first one could be that the Italian club want Aquilani on a seasons loan first with the option to sign him at the end of the season. We did this last year with Juventus and it ended badly with the club not wanting to sign him anymore. Liverpool can not risk this and more importantly, Aquilani’s value may fall if he has a poor spell at Fiorentina or worse still, if he gets injured.

we should keep him… if u look at the bench of the top 4 and our bench, you will have more than 1000 reasons to keep him at the club, plus.. Aqua is class, whether in the preseason or his first season, i can not get over the Ateletico madrid’s game in the Europa league… if i were KK i would consider giving him a fair chance this season, specially if we’re challenging for at least one of the 3 local competetions and at least a top 4 finish… Merielles, Downing and Henderson can play on right/left of midfield, but Aquallani is a deep play maker, and i couldn’t agree more with Henry when he said he’s the missing link, he could be the key of starting a quick counter attack from defence to offence, he’s more than just a squad player.. we need him at the club.
