A Less Talked About Area That We Need To Strengthen?

|

It has been well documented that Kenny Dalglish’s remaining transfer priorities are for the left back position, the wing positions and to a lesser extent, the centre back position. One position that hasn’t generated as much transfer rumours as it usually does is the striking department. The lack of transfer gossip surrounding this position is understandable given that a combined total of £57.8 million was spent in January on our exciting new strike partnership of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

Looking at the squad though, I do wonder whether Liverpool should be looking at buying another striker or not. On the one hand we have Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez and David Ngog and then the likes of Dirk Kuyt and Dani Pacheco to fill in up front whenever they’re needed. On the other hand however, Suarez, Ngog and Carroll are Liverpool’s only out and out strikers and with Ngog looking very likely to leave soon it may be worth having a look around the transfer market to bring in a new forward.

This leads to my next thought; if Liverpool do buy a striker, what type should he be? Should we be aiming for a decent squad player to provide back up to Suarez and Carroll or should we be looking for one of the world’s top striking talents to potentially break up our relatively new £57.8 million strike partnership? Obviously it would be nice to be able to buy a world class striker to give Kenny Dalglish a selection headache every match day but we are not Manchester City and the amount of money we spend on one position affects how much we have available to spend on others.

i agree we need depth but i hope we dont go for any. With Ngog gone, Kuyt will be a second choice to carroll while suarez’s position could be filled by the promising danny pacheco. Fact is, he is 20 and despite people saying he doesnt have experience, every time he has the ball at his feet, his composure and creativity is astounding. Before going on loan, he started finishing well for reserves aswell, like kelly i believe he needs an extended run in a team which will keep the ball down.

Sending him on loan would just futher delay his progress.

Got a crystal ball do you Cale? How do you know a loan will hinder Pacheco. How do you know how he would respond to the opportunity? How do you know he will progress if he stays with Liverpool? How do you know all these things?

magnumopus u Nob.. Calel is offering an opinion that Pacheco wouldnt prosper in a loan move at a Championship or struggling PL team playing the long ball.. A decent opinion.

Whats your opinion? Thats what these blogs are for.. I wouldn’y say you have any..My opinion is like i said your a Nob

We do need cover up front, Ngog looks like he’ll be sold&pacheco is likely being loaned out again. Wickham was a pity but he wudnt play whereas at sland he will play more.
I reckon kk will end up buying someone but um at a loss as to who that might be. My heart says Aguero but my head says WISE UP!

i would keep the pennies in the bank in this situation, without Europe the stress is less on the players, use the youngsters for cover, add another class striker next year when LFC have qualified for Europe, at this stage we will be more attractive and have a larger budget, that said a Juan Mata signing to add strength and cover would be an amazing statement –

as this site should note – quality is better than quantity.

Park Chu-Young would be a perfectly good signing. Would be a good squad player which can play in a few different roles and he is fast – versatile is good =). The guy had a good world cup scored some nice free kicks and standard charter are looking for player from Asia.

We have three strikers: Suarez, Carrol and Kuyt. Kuyt is not a winger and is better playing as a second striker. Ngog for me isn’t good enough, even as back up. ‘Pistachio’ is nearly ready now with about three years and doesn’t appear to be able to transfer his obvious talent to the first team. Granted he is only twenty but somehow I don’t think he is going to make it, however I would be willing to give him his last chance this season as our fourth choice striker.

Can anyone tell us the players LFC took for the ASIAN TOUR. I think that will give us an insight on who might be leaving.

  • Shane Long could be worth a shout. Would not expect a first-team spot, a good age, has pace, works hard, good finisher. He’s improved massively in the last year. For under £10m he’d be quality. Suarez, Carroll, Kuyt and Long. Pretty good!

60 million Liverpool fans in china alone
LFC should get an Asian player on books, think of the shirt sales. It really is the way forward

    Any suggestions?

  • SULLY says:

I wouldnt be convinced by any of our current forwards playing the main striker role if Carroll got crocked..Luis & Kuyt much better in support.

A young target-man willing to sit on the bench would be ideal..Real pity about Wickham.. Tomas Necid, Spartak Moscow or Khouma Boubacar, Fiorentina.. Both young target-men with bags of potential.
