A Stand-Off With Only One Likely Outcome?

|

This is not so much a war of words, but a declaration to Reds fans of both sides’ positions in the ongoing discussions. While Liverpool FC feel that it would be in the best interests of the community for the Reds to go for the more economically viable option, the council are saying that the debate has gone on long enough about where the Reds should play.

Of course, what’s best for Liverpool FC, should be best for the city, but the big problem for the City Council is that they are aware it would take a hell of a lot longer for land acquisitions to take place and statutory issues to be removed, than for the club to start building work on Stanley Park where all the necessary paper work has been approved.

Stanley Park has been left in limbo since the stadium plans went on hold and Liverpool City Council have been very accommodating in extending the planning consents for Stanley Park until September. They didn’t need to extend them, but they have, hoping that the Reds would finally begin work at the site. Now, with FSG exploring the redevelopment option, the Council would have approve new planning applications, and the club itself would have acquire land from local residents which could take some time.

In addition it was planned that Anfield would be transformed in a regeneration scheme which would create 100s of jobs, but if redevelopment went ahead, this couldn’t take place and the site at Stanley Park would be left vacant too, leaving the community worse off, in the Council’s view.

So at the moment, the two sides are in a stand off. Liverpool may reluctantly have to go forward for plans for Stanley Park if nothing changes.

A council Run by Bluenoses stirring the Effluent when there’s no money to be had anywhere except for Man City or Chelski owners. Does anyone know what their game is? When there is money to be had FSG will make moves, until then why cause trouble?

If its going to be stanley park then 60,000 capacity does not make financial sense. May be 70-75 with option to extend to 90-100. Liverpool has above 20000 fans on waiting list for season tickets so adding 16000 to anfield/stanley park still does’nt cut it.
If anfield is redeveloped I forsee hike in tickets to make up for the financial fair paly rule.
