A Summer Triumph Which Could Benefit Liverpool Exponentially

|

You only have to think back to the way Didi Hamann operated for Liverpool: break up play, then a short, simply pass forward to the next nearest man in space. This is exactly how Lucas works. The difference between him and many who play a similar role though, is that his passing is very impressive. After all, he is a Brazilian by nationality so that shouldn’t be a surprise but it makes him all the more important to both his club and his country: you can’t put a price of tidy passing in what is often a crowded, hectic area.

Having now moved from the group stages and set up a quarter final tie, Lucas and his Brazilian team mates are now just 2 games from the final and taking the trophy back home. Whilst this is of little interest for the most part (other than to satiate our football withdrawal), we should still be looking on keenly and willing our young general on as, should Brazil take the trophy home, we will have a very important player coming back for the new season knowing exactly how it feels to win, and win big.

For a South American, there is no bigger tournament than the Copa America, even more so than the World Cup. So for Lucas to come home having helped his nation to feel like winners and restore some of their damaged national pride, Liverpool could only feel the benefit of it too. Because if he comes back in time for the new season, with a medal around his neck and a sense of pride in his heart and the knowledge of what it means to win a major trophy, it can only emanate outwards through his team mates and breed positivity and desire to get that feeling for themselves, much like it did after our successful Spanish players did in 2008. Come on Lucas!

Where does he play though? With Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Aquilani, Henderson aswell as Spearing, Shelvey and others. I assume Poulsen, Meireless, & Cole will have moved on before the season starts.

Lucas is d only holding midfielder we have rite now. I think he’ll still play(I mean start) a lot of matches despite the competition for places.

This is the flip-side of complaining about a lack of depth to the squad. Can’t please some people.

Agree totally! Some people are always drawn to the negetive. To win the league we need a large squad and to win matches, we need a strong midfield. Best I,ve felt about liverpool in a long long time!

      • The only worry is if, what if we dont win a title next season. He would know the feeling of winning and will want it again. He may want a move. My suggestion is to go for everything we get a chance at, instead of focusing on one!
