With the signings we have made since January, I have often lay in bed at night and let my mind wonder to the thought of what are starting 11 will be this coming season. If for arguments sake we say that there will be no more transfer activity after the completion of the Downing deal, these are my thoughts:
I wonder what a 3-5-2 would be like:
Pepe Reina (GK) – Easily the number 1 keeper in the Premier League and most would argue the best in Europe though I would put him in the top 5.
Agger (CB) – If he can stay injury free this season he is easily one of the most technically gifted centre backs in the premiership, with skill, composure, an eye for a pass and the ability to maraud forward and unleash a cracking left footed strike, I would pick him every day of the week.
Skrtel (CB) – Did not miss a single game for us last season, he has finally recovered from the fractured jaw he received in a clash with Carragher away to Man City a couple of seasons ago and I would have no qualms placing him in the starting 11.
Carragher (CB) – No need for an explanation, though I do think it could be his final year at the heart of the defence, a replacement must be found.
Kelly (right or left wing back)– This lad has the stamina of a horse, I saw a quote the other day from a LFC coach who said in all his years of football (30+) he had not seen a player with the fitness and stamina levels of young Kelly. Tall, quick and athletic are all the attributes that make a fine wing back.
Johnson (opposite to where Kelly plays) – In 2 years at Liverpool he has shown he can be one of the most potent attacking defenders in European football. His defending leaves a lot to be desired, take more of that side of the game away and let him attack and who knows what could happen.

At the moment i would favour a 1/8/1 formation it would keep a lot of the squad happy.
NNNOOOO WAYYYYY if they r going to play that way they will play like this 3-5-2 when attacking n 5-3-2 when defending and the team will be like this
reina
carra skrtel agger
johnson(rw) downing(lw)
lucas
gerrard adam
Suarez
Carroll
i would like 4-4-2.. with
reina
kelly carra agger insua
johnson lucas gerard downing
suuarez carrol…perfect..
I don’t see us playing 3-5-2 that often and Lucas would be in ahead of Adam without a shadow of doubt. I think you’ll find we won’t play one particuliar formation as we can easily play 4 4 2, 4 2 3 1, 4 3 3, 4 4 1 1, and even 4 5 1. You also have to rmember we will sign a left back and are likely to sign a centre half and another striker
At the moment I think the best formation is 4-1-2-1-2 but the 3-5-2 could also work of we do not sign a decent left back
Reina (gk)
Johnson (rb)
Carragher skrtel (cb)
New left back (cissoko, enrique)
Adam (cm)
Gerrard (am)
Downing (lw)
Kuyt/ Henderson (rw)
Suarez (st)
Carroll (st)
I defo think we need to move Johnson
up ahead of Kelly. At least that way we have
someone who can defend on the right
Reina (Obviously)
Kelly Carra Aurelio
Johnson Lucas Adam Downing
Gerrard
Suarez Carroll
has to be a 4-1-2-3 with the number of CMs we have!
id say
reina
johnson carra skrtel new LB
Lucas
Gerrard Adam
Downing Carroll Suarez(who always likes to be on the left anyway).
Was in not away to Spurs on the first day two seasons ago that Skrtel and Carra clashed heads?
who cares, whats your point?
maybe he’s just tryin to ascertain his doubt, or the obvious point(which will be pretty shallow minded) he’s pointin out that incident to show that Carra n Skrtel are a bad kombo.
The writer of this article needs to watch more football and spend less time playing Football Manager. There is no holding midfielder in the team he picked and he expects Downing to play in the centre since he chose Johnson and Kelly to be wing backs. On top of that, Kenny Dalglish is not likely to adopt a 3-5-2 formation for the long term. With the current squad and the imminent arrival of Cissokho, the best team would be:
Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Cissokho
Gerrard Lucas Aquilani
Kuyt Suarez Downing
udont think KK has a plan for his 35m ‘English’ man?
Kenny obviously rates Carroll very highly and he will most probably replace Kuyt in the starting XI when he is 100% but at the moment he is nowhere near that. Considering the amount we paid for him I expect him to be starting but at this stage he does not deserve a place in the starting XI.
The most likely formation Kenny Dalglish will field this year will include the players he’s splashed a boatload of cash to acquire. Meaning we should expect to see Adam and Downing in the lineup and for Henderson to feature as a frequent sub as well as in Cup matches. I think Kenny rates Aquilani highly so expect him to play frequently. In my mind Dalglish will rate these players as his best and look for a tactical formation that fits their talents:
Reina
Carragher
Agger
Skrtel
Johnson
Lucas
Adam
Downing
Gerrard
Suarez
Carroll
take a look @ dis.
Reina.
Johnson agger cara/dann cisso
lucas (DM)
gerrard adam
downing
suarez
carrol
Who made all you managers???? KK has the job picking the team and selecting the formation not you lets just leave it to him, whatever team and formation he picks there will be people questioning him for it.
Reina.
johnson agger cara/skrtel baines/cissokho
kuyt adam gerrard downing
carrol suarez
I think 4-2-3-1 wil do with johnson, carra, skirtel, cissokho as the back 4. Lucas n gerrad in front of back 4 then suarez, adam, downing behind carrol
We have the best midfield in the Prem at this moment even if we sell Aquilani and Cole! With Lucas-Meireles-Gerrard-Adam-Henderson(RW)-Downing-Maxi-Spearing how can we not have the best midfield in the league!!! Liverpool are done buying this window! Insua has played fantastic in the two Preseason games thus far and think he’s ready to hold down that position until he fails and could potentially spend in January, but I think he’ll be better! Liverpool are stacked and need to off load Poulsen, Cole, Aquilani, Jones and may be Ngog and then loan out Pacheco (love this kid, but constant playing time will make him a star in a years time!), Wilson (fantastic prospect but won’t get anywhere sitting on the bench!), Jonjo, Wisdom, Flanagan and Robinson! This will help the young lads in their development and then we don’t have to spend money for years to come because our youth will be mature enough to handle it! There is no constant formation!! Everyone will fit into the system based on the match at hand!
Why do people talk about getting rid of Aquilani.
If Roy hadn’t loaned him ou he would have been by far our best MF last year.
He did more in his 824 mins in the league with us than Meireles did in the whole season, outside his 5 game purple patch.
Aquilani is a talented player yes i agree and never should have been loaned out, but Meireles was also a top performer last season he shouldn’t be criticised. Id like them both to stay and fight for their places, but i can see them moaning because of lack of first team football, i hope im wrong Fergie seems to keep his bench warmers happy im sure KK can do the same……YNWA
Do u ever think it( i mean loaning him back to familiar surroundings where he got back his fitness, form, and much needed confidence while playin for a top team) was not a very bad idea??
just sayin
No, because he found his form and fitness playing for us by the end of season. Then Roy gave another team the benefit of all the hard work. IMV.
I don’t think selling aquaman will b the best cmon give this guy a chance! Did insua play the china game?! l don’t recall him takin part, he & poulsen r the ones who shld b shown the door.
Poulsen for sure but id keep Insua as back to Cissokho if we sign him. We have Robinson there aswell id rather have 3 then 2 as our players are quite prone to injuries and i hope we sell Aurelio whose hardly ever fit and would be good to get of the wage bill.
insua was one of the better players in malaysia
Timmy
Paddy, Mark, evan, Purslo.
Utfro, Strong, Unndertlftu.
Breddly, Jones, Immelio.
Please please please give Pacheco a chance. What a talent!!!
