Skysports.com are reporting that Aston Villa are leading the chase for Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia. Villa manager Alex McLeish attempted to sign the French international for Birmingham City last summer but failed in his attempts. If Villa do sign the 25 year old, it could pave the way for winger Stewart Downing to depart for Liverpool. The Reds have been linked with the 26 year old in recent weeks but there has been no movement since it was speculated that Villa were demanding £19million for the player.

Liverpool should be looking to sign N’Zogbia instead. Signing an average player like Downing will get us nowhere and the reported 19m fee for him is absolutely ridiculous. N’Zogbia is available for half that price and will offer much more to the team.
