Liverpool City Council leader Joe Anderson has talked about LFC’s proposed redevelopment of Anfield. He told the Liverpool Echo:

“You can’t build something right next to someone’s house that blocks day light – whether Liverpool FC like it or not. That is something that exists. The original problems, before they decided to move to Stanley Park, are the same now because people have the right to light, and there are all kinds of issues like that. We have said that they have to make the decision. If they want to negotiate with people around the stadium and come to a deal with them that allows them to build higher to increase capacity [that is fine]. From our point of view, when Ian Ayre talks about the statutory requirements, local people have the right to light.”

Anderson also stated it may take sometime before everything is sorted out:

“There is a cost in re-developing Anfield, they may have to wait three years before they can start.”

If they did decide to stay at Anfield, the Reds would also have to pay back £8.2m of European Objective 1 grant funding that has been spent on Stanley Park in preparation for LFC’s move there:

“If Liverpool City Council has to pay the money back, Liverpool Football Club will have to pay the money back. Liverpool signed up to that, albeit under different owners.”

Anderson also stated that the Council would still consider extending the September deadline for the club to take up the 999 year lease on Stanley Park:

“If they can show me the progress that has been made, I don’t see us refusing point blank. The bottom line is that Ian Ayre represents Liverpool FC, but I represent the city and the residents of Anfield.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Edita Hortova!

Redeveloping Anfield can’t happen for more reasons that could ever be published in a single volume. The only reason FR doing that is nostalgia. None of us wants to lose our old faithful friend. BUT – and it’s a bigger BUT than capitals will allow – the heart and soul of Liverpool FC is not the fabric but the fans. We will take the same passion and 12th man atmosphere to wherever we play so a new stadium will not be ‘new’ for long. Quickly it will reverberate to the passion of the Anfield Choir singing You’ll never Walk Alone and the house warming will be complete!

agreed, i dont agree with it being a 60’000 stadium though. We can fill 70’000 for sure

      You disappointed me man.

We are the biggest club in UK & among the biggest in Europe, along with Barca, Real, Bayern & AC. Our stadium should be the biggest club ground in UK & comparable with the likes of Stadio Nu Camp, Santiago Bbernabu, Alianz Arena or San Siro; aren’t you confident enough for us to fill only 85,000+ sits?
