Is this really a good enough excuse for his poor displays?

The Daily Express recently ran a bizarre story centring on Joe Cole’s dreadful debut season at Liverpool. The English midfielder has been an unprecedented flop throughout his first season at the club and his failings have led to most fans calling for his head. What’s more, it’s unlikely that Cole’s excuse for his poor form will do much to get himself back into Liverpool fan’s good graces.

According to the Express, Cole blames his poor form on a lack of sleep. I for one, am not sure exactly how much water this excuse holds. The problems are said to arise from his having to attend to the needs of his young baby, Ruby who is said to keep Cole and his wife Carly up at irregular hours.

But if it’s the needs of a newborn baby that is keeping Cole up at night, why does the article later go on to suggest that he has been to see a ‘sleep guru’, in an attempt to solve his problem? This raises a few questions: do sleep gurus really exist and if so, why? Furthermore, why would Cole need to visit a sleep guru if he’s only losing sleep because he needs to look after a young baby?

In this case, the problem is clear and it’s not one that can be solved by natural means. He needs to be available and attentive to the needs of his daughter and thus it’s no good learning to enter a state of ‘deep sleep’ or any such nonsense.

  • I know I’m no good the next day, if I don’t sleep.
Give Joe a chance, under Kenny he could marvel. He is a very gifter player, he is english and is attack minded and creative, its what we are looking for.
He is one of the few in our squad who has experience of winning the EPL and that will help our younger players.

Besides, if we sell him, like most of our ex players, they seem to pop up and score against us – usually a winner.

It’s clear that you are not a sleep guru nor a psychiatrist mate!

What a pathetic excuse, he should try being a teacher or even more so a nurse, I’m sick and tired of people making excuses for this overpaid injury prone player and he’ll never offer us anything in terms of consistency, get rid now.

this is a joke…. I hope we cash in on him now or offer a large pay cut provided he shows a great deal of improvement, motivation and most importantly ‘fitness’.
