Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes the Reds’ sale of Fernando Torres could turn out to be the “sale of the century.” He told BBC Sport:

“I do feel the sale of Torres may turn out to be the sale of the century. I just feel there is something about Torres in his body language and his make-up. He has always been the main man at the clubs he’s been at and I look at him and he’s not the same player.”

Lawro believes the money has really benefited the Reds:

“The sale has allowed Liverpool to replace him and rebuild and the American owners have brought more players in as a statement of intent that the club is heading in the right direction again. When the fax came through to say Torres had gone and it was £50m, I would be surprised if Liverpool didn’t have a party.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Claudine Keane!

Harsh, but like M. Owen, Torres will regret the day he left his hero status at Anfield behind for …. what?

What I always enjoy about Liverpool, both fans and players or alumni, is their unfailing class. Never, for them, the temptation to stick the boot in. No, years of mediocrity have taught them, above all, humility. Or, failing that, revisionism.

Lawrenson, how often does he get right? Sounding more and more like a bitter and twisted spud. He should stick to throwing snide comments and hub caps at teams nearer the level of his own team, like Wolves and Stoke and Blackpool and Wigan.
loserpool how the mighty (historically) have fallen. Thursday nights Channel 5……….oh dear how sad never mind.

He’s only been with chelsea for a few months and already he’s not the same player according to these bitter reds…lets judge him at the end of this season. I’m sure if he scores 20 goals and has PL winners medal all these ex liverpool players will come out and say what a great player he still is.

Channel 5 ? I thought Liverpool could only be seen on the History Channel.

  • Banksy says:

To Ray Knight, heared that joke a thousand times. Chelsea you are nothing without the Russians money. Anything you have won or may win is his not yours, wait till he is gone, you will return to where you belong a no mark London Club who won nothing for 50 years. Manchester United and Liverpool are the true greats of English Football, no matter how much money you have you will never come anywere near them. You are pathetic.

i thought lawro passed on years ago , cudda sworn he was only a spittin image puppet. listen you scouse lightweights, what history u had counted for nothing after hillsboro and heysel and the constant mocking of ex players shows your own shortcomings as a club. no club wins anything without spending – ask Arsenal ! if memory serves me correctly , and i might have to ask me grandad , the great liverpool of the 70’s was full of imports – jocks , taffs and micks. you had your time once and no one can see it coming around again too soon.
