Surely it is only a matter of time

Liverpool fans had their hope of positive transfer activity re-ignited again yesterday after the Charlie Adam deal was finally be tied up. Since the signing of Jordan Henderson, Kenny Dalglish’s spending spree seemed to come to a bit of a stand still. This didn’t stop the media buzz though as rumours continued to circulate about new acquisitions every day. Yesterday two more names were linked yet again with Liverpool, Roma goalkeeper Doni and Villa winger Downing. I’m sure most fans will be happy with the Adam signing but agree that we still need a left back and left wing.

Alexander Doni’s agent, Ovidio Colucci, told a Roma news channel on Thursday that the Brazilian goalkeeper will soon be signing for Liverpool. Emiliano Insua also returned to pre-season training from Galatasaray on Thursday. I still don’t fancy the young defender though and do not think that he would be able properly fill the large void we have at left back. Whether he will feature in Kenny’s plans for next season we will have to wait and see. After Gael Clichy signed for City, we haven’t really been linked with another left back since Jose Enrique. I do not doubt we will see something happen soon because I don’t believe we’ll cope without a quality left back next season. The area we have most been tipped to fill next though is the left side of midfield, with a host of left midfielders being linked recently.

From Juan Mata to Charles N’Zogbia to Stuart Downing. There have been others, but these players have been talked about the most. At the moment though it seems Stuart Downing is the most likely, it looks like Arsenal is leading the chase for Mata and the N’Zogbia hype has quietened. Aston Villa have already rejected an initial bid of £15 million from Liverpool. They value the winger at £20 million and it looks like they won’t settle for any less. But Alex McLeish insists that Downing is not for sale. You have to feel for Aston Villa as they have lost some great names in the last few seasons, like; Gareth Barry, James Milner, Brad Friedel, Ashley Young and an amazing manager, Martin O’Neill. You can understand their hesitancy in selling Downing who was their player of the season last season.

At first, I wasn’t sure if Downing would be the right man for the job but now I feel that his style of play is exactly what we need for next season. I think he would be a brilliant acquisition, even at £20 million. What are your thoughts on the 26-year-old? Considering that it is still so early on in the transfer window and the Reds have already signed two good players as well as made a host of other bids it looks like it is only a matter of time before we see a ‘complete’ Liverpool. This gives me much hope for next season, it will certainly be a great Premier League season for us.

alex mcleish says Lfc are wasting their time but surely he is wasting his! everybody knows that if liverpool wants stewart and stewart wants liverpool then stewart WILL BE at liverpool! that’s not to appear arrogant, it’s just the reality of modern day football! big eck should be actively seeking a replacement instead of dragging out the inevitable.if i was KD, i would go back with £18m and put this saga to bed!

It is good to see some one else putting a positive spin on things.

KD & DC know what they are doing and often it takes time to get the player that you want.

I am fed up with the morons that believe the paper talk and say “buy this player now”

If we can get a decent start to the season a top four place should be a realistic target especially as we have a faily easy run in (if there is such a thing).

So lets hope that spurs, scum, man c, csk london & arsenal all get to the latter stages of the Cl & EC.

At £18m KK should keep his money in his pocket, Downing will be 27 this month and we’d be lucky to get 3 years out of him. before he crocks, that is £6m per year plus wages etc. and that’s too much.

    Bill said it…

£18 milllion for a soon to be 27yr – That’s hardly old but not good value for money. £15 million would have been a decent price..
