Why the Pendulum is finally swinging back Liverpool’s Way

It’s been exactly two months since Liverpool played Aston Villa at the end of the 2010/11 premier league season. A lot has changed in the last two months though and if the two teams were fielded against each other now they would look very different. Liverpool fans have had much to talk about of late. It has been an exciting time for Liverpool Football Club, we have seen changes in players and management and even changes in attitude. For the first time in many years fans feel that next season is really going to be amazing for us, and why not, a revival has taken place.

I live in South Africa, a country which (like most) has no shortage of Liverpool fans. I love Liverpool and the English Premier League so much that I want to live in England one day just to be at the heart of it. I’m not undermining fans from around the globe in any way, we have solid supporters here too. From guys with LFC tattoos to others who write columns for Liverpool websites. Supporters across the globe are informed and know just as much as the real Scousers do about the ongoings at Liverpool. Just earlier I was joking with some friends about playing a 3-6-1 formation because of our well stocked midfield. That is the thing about Liverpool, it brings a passion like no other club. I have often nearly found myself in tears watching the Kop sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ on a big European night, or found myself ecstatic for weeks after a victory over United. In the age we live in fans have more access to the club than ever before. This however does not change the fact that I have never been to Anfield and never watched a live Liverpool game. I’m hoping to alter that soon though because one of my greatest fears is that Liverpool will leave Anfield before I get to stand in the Kop.

Spirits have been lifted even higher since the second half of last season. As if the great revival under King Kenny wasn’t enough, we have even more to be excited about now. With some new players and a restored style of ‘LIVERPOOL’ football, next season is going to be a cracker. I can’t wait to see whipped in crosses from our left winger (something which we’ve been lacking for a while) Downing, headed into the back of the net by our massive target man Carroll. If the second half of last season is anything to go by, which I believe it is, next season should be phenomenal.

Why not wait until ‘Wintervals’ before making such assertions? The season hasn’t even started yet and already people are getting excited.

I’m still not convinced ‘King Kenny’ has still ‘got it’ in his ‘locker’

Why aint you convinced look at the job hes done so far, the way we finished last season was amaizingly brilliant compared with the way we misserably started last season.

The end of last season people were already looking forward to this season with KK, but i think people are concerned now because they were expecting big named European players to come in. Not the likes of Hennderson, Downing or Adam respectively and the amount we paid for them. I myself beleived we would have a mix of British and European players, some PL proven some newbies, but i totally trust KK with his beleifs and choice of player hes bought and i think we owe it to him to stick by him after the way we ended last season. We could have been battling for relagation and who would have stayed or would we have bought then……YNWA

whoa there Lesley – one step at a time mate.
if we challenge for fourth that would be a massive improvement and progress. We were well off the pace last year, although we finsihed strongly, and all the top teams are still there and strenghtening.

No point banging on about challenging for the tilte because it will only end in disappointment. If we do challenge it will be a bonus, but i still think we are a season or two away from that . . . but hey, you never know . . .

to Ahmad – why you not convinced about Kenny?
do you know anything about his history about winning the PL with Liverpool as a player and manager and also with Blackburn as a manager?
The fact that he pulled a bunch of rags from relegation zone madness to a respectfull position.
That doesn’t convince you then nothing will.
Kenny has shown what he can do with a bunch of rags, he’s now bringing in new players so let him do the job and restore the Liverpool back to where they belong.
This nonsense about him being out of the game for so long was originated from Alex F. because he knows Kenny is a threat to manu.
Kenny may not win anything in his first full season in charge, but give him time. He’s got the experience and the know how.
so sit back and enjoy the new Liverpool!

I am far from convinced, if we enter the the new season without a new left back and a new centre back then serious questions need to be asked about the transfer priorities.

We spent over the top early on for Henderson and so every club then thought correctly they could hold us to ransom.

In the long run Henderson may turn out to be a legend, but I think that money should have been spent on defence. We are not Man city where a poor decision can just be written off.

Hopefully the defence additions are still on the way. Because in central defence only Agger (rarely fit) has the quality of title winning side, Carragher is now off the pace and I don’t even want to talk about skertel or Kyriakos. Left back ?
