Will Henry’s ‘Missing Link’ Be Here Come September?

One of the most interesting developments over the weekend was John W Henry commenting on his twitter page about Alberto Aquilani and David Ngog:

“One missing link last year: Acquilani. Put the ball near Ngog and the goal and it’s going in. Too much talk of them somewhere else.”

Aquilani did again impress against the Malaysian XI and there is a growing clamour among Reds fans for the player to stay at Anfield, and the comments from the Henry would have boosted their confidence that he will indeed stay.

After all, perhaps Henry knows something we don’t and that he does feature in Kenny’s plans for the new season, or alternatively, he just sees what many fans think of Aquilani, a silky passer of the ball who can link up play well and be the “missing link” between midfield and attack as Henry suggests.

As you may ascertain from the opening few paragraphs, I, myself am not so certain of Alberto. Certainly, he had a good solid season at Juventus and managed to show everyone that his injury problems are well behind him. He has also impressed during the two pre-season friendlies in Asia against Guangdong and the Malaysian XI, leading First Team Coach Steve Clarke to say:

“We have always known how good a player he is. He has the quality to stay on and fight for his place in the first team.”

For me though, there are two questions marks over Alberto Aquilani’s head currently. Will he make the same impact in Premier League games next season as he did for Juve and this pre-season? More importantly though; is he part of Kenny Dalglish’s plans?

You forgot Lucas and Jay mate 😉 Looks a bit overloaded in central midfield :O .. but i think Kenny has a cunning plan and a few random systems for the new season.. Got very optimistic hope for the new season! ynwa

May be able to cope in the home games where we will be looking to play more attacking football, He’s definately not the right player to be put in against Stoke or Wolves who’ll try to use thier strength aswell as trying to play football. Still think he would come behind Gerrard, Adam, Lucas, Kuyt, Meireles Henderson, Downing and Maxi. He may have a good fight with J.Cole for a place on the bench now and again though!!

It’s nice to see some of our fans still recognise talent.

Sorry mate everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think you’re wrong. Aquilani is the most intelligent player we have, and our team should be built around him.

His short passing, long passing and his tactical understanding and great game intelligence is what sets him apart. He’s come through a season away on loan unscathed and we now need to use him. Especially with the more technically gifted players we have now.

J Cole is a really technically gifted player, unfortunately the problem is he doesn’t have a brain, and that is why he will fail at LFC. By the way, thats not my opinion it’s the opinion of one J Mourinho, Ancelotti and F Capello.

If everyone is available my team would be

      Gk Reina
      Rb Johnson
      Cd Skyrtl
      Cd Agger
      Lb New left back

      Dm Lucas
      Dm/Am Aquilani

      R am Suarez
      C am Gerrard
      L am Donwing

      St Kuyt

The other including Carroll need to earn their places.

Attacking midfielder defo. Which makes him battling for places with miereles gerrard maxi cole and now downing. The rest are defensive mids. Adam lucas spearing shelvey sometimes gerrard play a deeper role. I hope he is included next season cos he looks magical on the ball creating attacking flare for a traditionally attacking team. I would love to see him suarez cole miereles maxi and gerrard play together with a real solid defensive back 4 but I know that’s impossible. It would be interesting to watch. I just love the names above how they pass dribble and use trickery.
