Will his return to the club be anything more than brief?

Argentinean full back Emiliano Insua returned to pre-season training at Liverpool this week after spending last season on loan at Galatasaray. Speaking on his Facebook page, Insua stated that he was glad to be back on Merseyside:

“In Liverpool again, I hope to be here this season and to give something to the team, I am with energy to do it.”

There’s some confusion over when Insua’s contract runs out, with some believing that his contract expired this summer, but as he returns to the Reds, it does suggests that Insua maybe still contracted to the Reds, unless he is training with the the Reds while looking for a new club.

Insua’s agent Rodrigo Vilarino said today that Roma’s Sporting Director Walter Sabatini had been in contact about his client, and it remains to be seen where the 22 year old fits into Kenny Dalglish plans

The Argentine has invariably been listed on the names of player’s expected to leave the club this summer and he had a somewhat unhappy time at Galatasaray, where he was frozen out under Gheorghe Hagi in the middle part of a season, in a campaign where the club had three managers.

The loan at Galatasaray had a clause written into that the Turkish club had an option to sign the player permanently if the loan was successful, but after Galatasaray finished 8th in the table, the option wasn’t taken up by the club.

This obviously raises doubts over whether he would be good enough for Liverpool if he failed to get a move to a team who finished mid-table in the Turkish league, but as Galatasaray are going through a transitional period at the moment, such a judgement would be slightly unfair.

He was certainly thrown in the deep end during his first season in the Liverpool first team in the 2009/10 campaign and he had a poor season by all accounts. Some Reds fans believe patience is needed, much like with Lucas Leiva, but from the season I saw of the Argentine playing at left back for Liverpool, I just don’t see how he has the physical attributes to cope in the Premier League.

I maybe proven wrong but I feel Insua’s presence at the club would disrupt the development of younger, more promising players in the position such as the talented Jack Robinson. A move to Italy, perhaps to Roma, could be best for all concerned and if he does leave, I wish him all the best for the future.

KEEP INSUA INVEST THE MONEY IN A TOP STRIKER

  • Bill says:

He had a great season for us considering he was thrown in at the deep end by Rafa, ala Robinson, Kelly and Flanagan, unfortunately he ran out of steam towards the end of the season. And Old Scratch Me Chin Dodgson wanted that waste of space Koncheski. Get off the lads back and give him a go, we’re desperate for left sided players as it is.

  • Sanjay says:

we need him now not any else in the left back with back up robinson.the money left to wingers which we don’t have in the team.

  • pls they should inform kenny to keep INSUA in lfc and start introduceing him [insua]in some games, they should’nt do the mistake they did by saling RYAN BABEL when they’re players like c.poulsen and m.jovanovic, that needto shown the exit door.kenny should keep insua then forget about a left full back then use the to bring a striker of KARIM BENZEMA and HULK also we need CHARLES NZOGBIA then bring DIEGO to ANFIELD.

Yes I think his return very brief… Don’t think he can cut it! Need more pace.

keep insua and plays jack robo, give them opportunities to shine next season

  • Ian says:

He had the most assists from a left back the year Liverpool came 7th. I wouldn’t call that a ‘poor’ season. He was one of the better players that year, and was capped at 19 years of age for Argentina. Bags of promise.

Even for you’s, this is an utterly bonkers article.

Of course Utd are better than you.

It’s delusional to think anything else at this point.

Very funny for non-LFC fans though – keep it up lads!
