Birmingham defender Scott Dann has been included in the squad to face CS Nacional in the Europa League Playoff round. Manager Chris Hughton named him in the 20 man party to fly out to Madeira where they are due to play tomorrow night. If he plays, he will be cup tied in Europe, meaning he will be a less attractive proposition for Arsenal, if the Gunners negotiate Udinese in the Champions League qualifying round. Chris Hughton has revealed that there have been enquiries for the defender:
“We are very conscious of the interest and speculation around Scott because he is a very, very good player, but until something happens he’s very much a Birmingham City player and will remain so. There have been lots of enquiries, lots of interest in him, which is expected because he is a very good player, but no official bids yet.”
With Liverpool not in Europe, Dann’s selection for the match against Nacional would not be a problem.

he would still be able to move to arsenal and play in the champions league… Europa league has nothing to do with champions league when it comes to players being selected!

You can play in the Champions league if you have already played in the Europa league. look at Torres last season.
Yes but if you read the article properly you will see that the author says if arsenal do not make it past udinese in the CL qualifier then they fall into the europa league therefore making Scott Dann cup tied.

Torres didn’t play for Chelsea until the end of January but would have been cup tied before. Suarez played for Ajax before Christmas in champs league and was cup tied for us in Europa cup. So Scott Dann would be cup tied for Arsenal in champs league until after Christmas.

a good local lad but just an average defender. younger defender like subotic or hummels is a better and cheaper option. Fabio Cannavaro is on free if the kop move in fast enough

I do agree though I am fed up of us signing average premier league players from poor sides who havent won anything and then we wonder why we cant win any games……go for a top international defender like Mertesacker or Chiellini……if we stay in England only Samba or Cahill is worth a punt, Scott Dann would only be signed coz he is a scouser
