An Unsurprising Exit but Certainly a Surprising Destination

Like Sotirios Kyrgiakos’s move to Wolfsburg a couple of days ago, it came completely out of the blue today when the Reds announced that Dani Pacheco would be moving to Atletico Madrid on loan. Much of the speculation had been around Pacheco moving to city rivals Rayo Vallecano but it looks as if the lure of playing for such a prestigious club has tempted the Spanish forward to snub the La Liga new boys for Atletico.

The biggest question mark will of course be whether the Reds forward gets enough game time. He was fully aware he wasn’t going to get many games for Liverpool this season and it was clear another loan spell would be in his best interests. Earlier on in the summer Pacheco rejected a move to Coventry City on a season long loan, and it seems his decision is justified with Atletico coming in for him. Still with Atletico biggest signings of the summer being Radamel Falcao and Arda Turan, there are doubts whether he will be afforded a great deal of time on the pitch. He may have been better served moving to Rayo Vallecano where he would have been guaranteed to play a fair few games.

As a player who can play in a variety of positions though, as attacking midfielder, a withdrawn striker or out wide, Pacheco’s flexibility should hold him in good stead. With Diego Forlan expected to follow Sergio Aguero out the door at the Vicente Calderon, Pacheco could have the opportunity to play just behind Falcao as a link up man between midfield and the striker.

the lad has something in him thats for sure, he reminds me of a young luis garcia, hes very well regarded in spain but i just hope the lads been guaranteed a certain amount of games.

I think the lad needs to play every week or what talent he has will never be tapped into.

I dont think he has the mental attitude to try harder like many players when hes not playing and doesnt give 100% when he comes off the bench (joe cole) thats why he has never really had many chances, but i reckon if he got some back to back games we could see what hes made of

I still feel that we need to move for Sturridge. I still scratch my head when he was offered in the Torres deal and we didn’t take him. He’s good enough to start and be the first man off the bench if a striker is out of form, or injured! I’m a Pacheco fan hard core, but moving to Athletico may work in his favour (competition may bring the best out of him) or not (based on Diego or others coming in!). I belive that a move to Vallecano is also not a good move for him and new boys tend to have a hard time keeping posession! I think a team like Villreal, Malaga, Deportivo, or even Valencia would have helped him! Hope Dani does well! a 10-15 goal season with 10 assists would be perfect for “the killer”

How can it be good for him to go on loan to a big team like Athletico?
Of course they will favor their own players and not those they got on loan. Even if they think he is good they will not risk to increse his fee if they want to buy him later.

Liverpool should have vetoed the deal, but I dont think Liverpool really caress anymore what happens to him as he was Rafa’s signing.
