Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes Luis Suarez will only become a legend at the club if he doesn’t opt to move to the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid. He wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo:

“He has the potential to be classed alongside the great No.7s like Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan but it’s still early days. Suarez has only played 21 games for the club and he needs to keep producing the goods over an extended period. If Suarez stays at Anfield for the length of his contract I’ve got no doubts that he will be viewed as a legend. I say if because part of me does worry about Barcelona or Real Madrid knocking on the door and offering ridiculous money for him. After what happened with the other fella in January I think we’ll always be wary about what might happen. We have to build around Suarez and we need to ensure we satisfy his ambition. Qualifying for the Champions League this season and challenging for trophies should help achieve that.”

Aldo also looked ahead towards the Merseyside Derby:

“It goes without saying that it will be a difficult game at Goodison. But we’re going there with a much better squad than we had last October when they turned us over. That was an embarrassing performance which won’t happen again under Kenny Dalglish and with the group of players we’ve got now. I was in Portugal for that game and when I heard Roy Hodgson say it was our best performance of the season I had to go to bed. It was a laughable statement. This time we will be better prepared and make it a lot harder for Everton.”
