He would deserve Kenny’s full consideration come January

|

In fact I’d like to see them look outside the Premier League. In particular I’m intrigued by the prospect of Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen, a player who is rumoured to have been on Liverpool’s radar for a while now. At just 24-years-old he’s surprisingly tough, but it’s his reading of the game that impresses me most. He may not be particularly pacy, but he’s quicker than Carragher and he’s a top asset for his club.

Best of all, Ajax may be looking to cash in this January if their Champions League campaign doesn’t go to plan. Whilst the fact that he’d be cup-tied may scare off a few other potential suitors that wont be a concern for Liverpool.

Given the options and the availability of other players, I’d say that this is a player who deserves Kenny’s full consideration when it comes to the January sales.

skrtel has always shown this since we signed him. Its ok to be aggressive, but he is liable to foul too much rather than pick challenges he is going to have a good chance of winning- like his second booking at spurs on gareth bale. Also lacks composure and distribution is average. Cahill would be quality. Good on the ball as well a good defender. Sakho would be awesome too.

Sigh! I’ve always thought i was on my own in thinking Skirtel was dodgy, clumsy and at times looks brainless for a defender. He is physically imposing but has been exposed time and time to be brainless and unsteady! Maybe play him as a holding midfielder in front of the two central defenders, or ship him out in January, there will be takers for him.

if you guys watched Cahill’s games for Bolton as much as you watch Liverpool games, you would not have the same opinion. Quit buying into the press ideologies and watching only match day highlights. Even in those, you not see a single Skrtel error let alone the numerous made by Vidic under pressure!
Everyone has their weaknesses but you endeavor to make some opposition players seem perfect(especially the English ones). Next thing you hear everyone is against Rooney coz he hasnt scored in a couple of games!

    REDSIMON – well said !!!!

Football and peoples opinions are very much media driven.

What next – managing matches via media opinion on a telephone vote ????

Very unfair to try and bring him down over the Tottenham game, after all it’s not his position. Playing players out of position is the managers responsibility if it fails.

I wonder who would love to sell Skrtel right now!!! And I’m sure there are lots of clubs would gladly buy him for his qualities. These articles are sometimes very off and “knee jerk” in nature.
