5 Key Battles that Liverpool need to win against United

|

Midfield Battle

Most of Liverpool’s wins against United in the past few years have come through their dominance of the midfield. The Reds midfield has been superior to that of the Red Devils in terms of individuals and as a team. If Dalglish blocks the wings against Ferguson’s charges, forcing the main battle through the middle of the park, there is only going to be one winner. With a fit again Gerrard back playing alongside Lucas, who has made the most number of tackles (46) in the Premier League this season, Anderson and Cleverly, or whoever plays in the visitor’s midfield would find it extremely difficult to break through.

Suarez vs Vidic

With De Gea making more saves than any other keeper in the English top flight, the champion’s defence is far from solid. Suarez would have to exploit those vulnerabilities and be clinical in front of the goal, something he has proven to lack at times this season. Dalglish and Clarke would need to ensure this is done as early as possible in the match as it is unlikely that Suarez would be able to complete the full 90 minutes, given he has already played the full 2 matches for his country thousands of miles away from Anfield.

Lady Luck

Along with Manchester City, Liverpool has hit the woodwork 6 times this season, the most in the league this season. Very unlucky! Dalglish needs to do everything possible to change his teams luck rather than hoping for it. He must conduct prayers several times a day, in churches, mosques, temples and any other religious building, not look to a mirror on a match day or even force all of his players to reach the club with their car tank full (he can guarantee at least Pepe will). Seriously anything!
