Reds edging closer towards exit door?

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Liverpool are a step closer to finalising a move to a new stadium as the club has narrowed down the search for naming partners for the stadium to just three.

There has been a lot of debate as to whether Liverpool will redevelop Anfield or move to a new stadium. From a business perspective, it makes sense to move to a brand new stadium but we need the money to build it and thus the importance of finding a naming partner for the new stadium. There is no way we could possibly move to a new stadium without it having a naming partner as we have seen with Arsenal and the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool are thought to be seeking a naming-rights partner “who are prepared to pay at least the equal of Arsenal’s record-breaking deal at the Emirates, which was worth around £150 million,” according to the report.

Liverpool’s current shirt sponsors, Standard Chartered bank, are thought to be one of three companies the club has targeted as naming partners.

The club believe they can start building work early next year if they find a partner to match their valuation.

Anfield is not bricks and morter. It’s the people, the atmosphere. Call whatever you want but deep down “THIS IS ANFIELD”

  • TG says:

Anfield will always be Anfield, our history will go with us!!!!

  • jonnysingapore says:

It’s a lot cheaper to extend anfield, but that’s clearly not possible.

And remember, it’s only 15000 seats extra and some corporate boxes. So even without naming rights the expenditure is pretty extreme for that return.

ManUre were very intelligent extending when they did. Arsenal had the benefit of prime real estate to sell off. Spurs are getting massive spending commitments from Boris (mayor of London).

The real benefit of building now is the inflationary policies and money printing of world governments.

The debt raised now will quickly be eroded away through inflation shocks that are coming our way. It’s important we get that debt raised and spent asap.

    The Standard Chartered Stadium!?

@ Truth: An appropriate name for a club that houses a very standard, very average Liverpool team.

Is the phrase “thought to be” the flavour of the century? It’s amazing how frequently you punctuate your articles with this oft-repeated phrase. Ron, why do you choose to follow the footsteps of the pathetic journalist wannabe who identifies himself as Mark “thought-to-be” Bollocks? Seriously, if you truly want to be a prolific writer, stop being a me-too, and more importantly, delete the phrase, thought to be, from your holy grail forever. Amen.
