His record of 8 Goals in 5 League Starts speaks for itself

|

With Kuyt and Maxi starting the match against Chelsea, the starting line up had more of a familiar feel to it which was reminiscent of the end of last season when we were scoring goals for fun. Starting with more players who were already settled at the club seemed to work, as Liverpool outplayed Chelsea in the first half while Maxi gave us a well timed reminder of just how good a player he is with his intelligent movement and link up play throughout the game.

In an ideal world, I would like to see a Liverpool team with Downing and Maxi on the wings with Bellamy and Suarez up front. Those are four of Liverpool’s most mobile players and I believe that if they all get to start against Manchester City, we will seriously trouble the team currently leading the Premier League table. As I mentioned before, Maxi’s start against Chelsea was long overdue but I’m hoping it can trigger a run of games now where he will show the kind of goal scoring form which made him one of Liverpool’s star players in the second half of last season. Before the game against Chelsea, Maxi’s Liverpool future was looking bleak to say the least, but it appears he may yet play a starring role this season. I have to say that if we did end up selling Maxi in the near future, I would be devastated as in my opinion; he can be one of Liverpool’s most influential attacking midfielders this season.
