Kenny can no longer afford to keep this man on the bench

|

On quite a few occasions now I’ve expressed my view that Craig Bellamy needs to be given more game time for Liverpool, and the consensus among Reds fans seems to suggest that the majority of us want to see the Welshman given more of a chance.

The calls for Bellamy to start more matches will no doubt intensify following his man of the match display against Norway for Wales last week Saturday. Bellamy was at his very best, steaming up and down the pitch with incredible energy, being the catalyst for his country’s best team moves and also scoring a solo goal of the highest quality.

His performance certainly didn’t come as a surprise, as we have seen plenty of examples of his quality in recent years, most notably two seasons ago while he was at Man City. I have no doubt that it will only be a matter of time before Bellamy makes it impossible for Kenny Dalglish to leave him out of the starting XI.

Bellamy brings to the team exactly what we have lacked for a long while, a forward with blistering pace who plays with so much energy and urgency, defenders struggle to contain him. For a team that is currently struggling to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, we cannot afford to keep attacking talents such as Craig Bellamy on the bench.

The squad at times lacks two key ingredients: speed and urgency in our play. Craig Bellamy brings not only those two ingredients to the team but is actually an intelligent, top class footballer. At 32, he only has a couple of years left at the top but has done well to keep himself so well conditioned and thankfully, doesn’t seem to have lost that yard of pace he would have been expected to lose at his age. When I see him tearing down the pitch at top speed and causing problems for defenders I can’t help but wonder how destructive he would be playing alongside Luis Suarez on a regular basis.

Maxi too we need his lethal brains in frnt of goalG

    • Jag says:

Daglish has to play Glen on the left wing on a regular basis ( he is a natural finisher, has pace and guile and loves to attack). then he can give Kelly the left back slot. Kelly is by far the best youngster we have. he is strong and quick with a great temperament and deserves to be a regular first team player. In due course , he will be the natural replacement for Carragher and will have no difficulty in moving to centre back. He will not advance if he is left on the sidelines

  • redkopite says:

100% true , but i really dont get why kenny bought carroll in the first place, he clearly doesn’t fit in the pass and move system …. l

    • Steven says:

The only reason I can come up with is that even with the tactics of the pass and move, he offers something different when the game is a stale mate!
Still after watching a re run of the game v Chelsea at the bridge where Mereiles scored the winner, we actually out passed them with a side that needed a lot more!
It feels like we have gone back a step!
      🙁

I am staunch Supporter of Bellamy the energy, the skill and the attitude he have is having in no other player in liverpool. Instead of Lazy Buffalo carrol who is the main responsible for all the four draws at home if Bellamy start with surez on the front I am sure their skill, energy and speed will tore down Chellisa lazy defence.

    • richard mcgill says:

????? buffalo????, chellisa??????? what the hell are you drinking and can i have some?. bellamy can not play every game due to the fact he is old and his knee’s can’t take it. he is much better utilised as an impact player. carroll and suarez is long term unlike maxi , kuyt, bellamy. but they will only do well if they get time on the pitch together it is well known we have hit the woodwork a huge amount of times and various keepers have come away with the man of the match award so we have been very unlucky but that luck will change and soon you all will be singing carroll’s praises

      • Martin Badger says:

You, like so many Liverpool supporters, live in a fantasy world. It’s not a question of luck – it’s a question of utterly crap shooting. Sorry but it’s not going to get any better – Carroll isn’t going to suddenly turn into a class player. He’s slow thinking, slow moving and crap in the air. Buying him was insanity. As for Henderson – on my radar he doesn’t even rate as a player. We have one class player – Suarez. And even he misses loads of chances.

        • AK says:

I totally agree with you. Carrols goals most of them were lucky to go in even if they were easy to take. And I think you are probably the only one of the few who also agrees with me that Henderson is not a player. I cannot understand how Henderson has managed to keep Kuyt out of the team. With this sort of attitude from the manager the top players are going to leave, like Kuyt and even Suarez and Maxi. It makes me wonder who manages the team or buys players. Is it Camolli. Remember he messed up Totenham aswell.

  • richard mcgill says:

bellamy has to be carefully managed as he has had knee problems so i assume it would be better to find a partnership that can play most games rather that having a rotating striker system of one play 1 game and one play the other. carroll and suarez are only going to work if they play together.

  • frank says:

Yes, Bellamy should be a regular, not on the bench but in the field. He is skillful and I am sure he will deliver for LFC, no doubt about that !!!

  • Joeme says:

@Richard Mcgill What’s all these RUBBISH on Hitting the woodwork&Keepers going with man of the match all about!!
1)Those balls hitting the wood should be goals… If we had players that were good enough on the pitch, not some alcohol intoxicated SNAIL. Are we on d pitch to make highlights for Supersports?
2)Keepers should not be made Superstars for playing against Liverpool but ADEQUATELY Punished for doin so. You know Why? That’s bcos This Is Anfield.
3)your Opinion about Bellamy is SICKENING& Horrible&it makes me feel lik you are a fan of another club just wanting disaster for Lfc.
Some fans are just too Selfish. Do you know how it feels to be paired with a SLUGGISH,Not Sharp&DULL player Upfront?? You hav the ball& look around to find Carrol for a one-two pass, but he’ll neva be there & wheneva he’s there he doesn’t know what to do with the ball,he can’t anticipate your movements. It puts the whole burden on Suarez. Whats wrong wit Starting wit Suarez&BELlamy& then bringin in Carol for whoeva just to develop Carol.Who knows he may be beta wit time,BUT I DOUBT IT.ynwa.

    • Flauvio says:

      1) those balls will be goals sooner than later
      2) has the terraces of Anfield lost their intimidating ways on away keepers?
      3) wonder what if feels like knocking down 9 out of 10 balls only to find that noone’s there to putt i away
      4) you’re a clueless muppet

    • nezi says:

      totally agree man

  • A2Z says:

i think you dont know about football m8..carrol is doing just fine..i understand the manager buy downing to supply for carrol..thats the reason..if we play bellamy upfront with suarez..its not balance cos i can see that suarez getting gel with carrol..playing high ball is his specialist and set-pis header that will lsupply to suarez..wake up baby boy..

    • Martin Badger says:

If you think Carroll is doing just fine – with his mighty two goals – then you are the one who doesn’t know much about football mate. He’s about the same level as David N’gog except he cost the earth. As for his speciality – the high ball – are you kidding? For a guy of six three he’s the worst header of a ball I’ve ever seen.

  • Sanjay Hauradhur says:

DALGISH MAKING LOTS OF COMMON ERRORS AS HE IS BETTER THAN THE EDNGLISH PLAYERS AND WE NEED SOUTH AMERICAN PLAYERS WHO ARE BETTER THAN ENGLISH

    • AK says:

Is Dalglish making the errors or is it Camolli who is pulling the strings?? Makes you wonder!!!

I cannot believe Dalglish would spend £35mil for that Snail. But who knows?

  • Joeme says:

@FLauvio 1)says who?Daglis himsef has neva said that, talkless of you.U’re livin in the FANTASY land
2)what punishes at Anfield is d Players,d manager&d joy of the fans Not d Terraces. For what is Anfield in itself without those 3 elements& once d players are not up to d task, then anfield looses its Quality
3)is dat what £35mill is all about?Knockin down balls!instead of knocking in Goals. I’m disappointed in you!& i think u lack a business acumen wit that comment. U’re one of those Fans now gettin used to Averag players a Syndrome created by the Hicks regime.
4)u are a typical example of a Fan wit average perfomanc mentality, ur Reasoning is Shallow when it comes to Futbal. I perciev dat u can b beta anyway dat’s if you wil not be too Arrogant to take my advice which is….
After every match, always try to analyz wit someone that says the FACT not the one that wil feed u wit lies& tell u what u want to hear. Peace. YNwa.

    • shibashis says:

Agreed about the mediocre mentality, at LFC the aim has to be higher, if not then we are not LFC.
We will be supportive of the players that we have, but having said that we demand LFC quality from them, they are playing for Liverpool Football Club, are not they?
You see, that is the whole point.

  • Rory says:

Bellamy should start and Downing should sit, he’s a ghost, no dribbles, no right passes, no personality…i’m not really happy that we have spend 20 millions for a 28 years old guy that is worst than Babel…Carrol is simplythat kind of player. Or someone is still thinking that he’s a brasilian striker like Ronaldo? everybody knew what kind of player he is, so the problem is that we need to create space in offence with speed and technic to give more chance for Carroll, Suarez is alone, we need players with speed technic and personality, Downing is not for this level, he’s good for teams like Tottenham and Newcastle, we need more

  • Joeme says:

The truth be told! And 4 real,ur comment is of a truth. We can do nothin but only continue to wish for improvement at anfield.

  • nezi says:

if henderson, caroll and downing play for us against chelsea, we will be beaten VERY BADLY. Consider hederson-anelka, carol-drogba, downing-mata, adam- lampard,.. can someone see that it will be a miracle to win if these people play. The only hope we have is replacing them with kuyt, bellami, and maybe maxi, players of international class.

    • Rory says:

Sorry mate but “players of international class”!? please be serious, Maxi is done since he was in Atletico Madrid, he’s one of those guys that left Argentina as “the new Maradona” but soon everybody realized that they call the player in that way just to make their price more high, just cause he scored few goals in two games last year doesn’t mean he’s a great player (Carroll scored more than 20 last year and he’s not great), last year he did a bad season, like two years ago and like he did to Atletico in the past (and that’s why Atletico did not resign him), Kuyt has personality yes, but no speed, no technic and old…(however better him than Downing), Bellamy is the better choice in this situation clearly, but in the future we need a couple of big players, surely a offensive player, maybe Tevez? than a Xabi Alonso midfielder and if we’ll sell Carroll someone like Cavani will be ok i think, i don’t see top class strikers in the market now but Cavani is really really good

  • mop ed says:

Bellamy has played more for Wales since he returned to Liverpool than he has played for Liverpool.

Kenny needs to be ruthless or he’ll be out of a job in the summer if they finish mid table.

  • Kopstar says:

Kenny has spent millions on garbage total waste of money how could any one think Andy carrol was worth 35m and Henderson 20m kenny has messed Liverpool totally up

  • Deaththekid says:

Kenny dalglish is just trying hard to prove us wrong by sticking with caroll even though his performances has been below par and not to the standard expected of a 35MILLION player!
He should just swallow his pride and accept he made the biggest mistake of his life with the transfer of caroll. I`m sure the fans will understand and forgive him because afterall no transfer has ever been failproof, remember schevchenko? However we wont forgive him if he keeps playing crap because of their stupid price tag and benching others far better. Caroll is not the ideal partner for suarez but bellamy is. They are both fast and skillfull players that could terrorize any defence in the EPL. They are best strikers we got.

  • Bert says:

Id like to see us play a 4-5-1/4-3-3 of

    ————— Reina ——————

    Kelly—–Carragher——Agger—–Enrique

    ———- Lucas———Adam————-

    Kuyt———–Henderson———-Bellamy

    —————Suarez———————

Obviously when Gerrard’s fit he would be in and there are players you could interchange but I think the important point is Kuyt, Suarez & Bellamy upfront.

Kuyt and Bellamy are more than used to playing on the wings and if there is a harder working front 3 in world football I’d like to see it.

    • Rory says:

I agree in big part, we should play the 4-3-3 that is “modern” football, but i think that we must give a chance to Carroll in this 4-3-3 where he’ll have more space

      ——————–Reina—————
      Johnson—-Carra——Agger——-Enrique
      ——-Gerrard—Lucas—Adam
      Bellamy———Carroll—–Suarez

and next year will be nice to se

      ————–Reina———-
      Johnson—Carra–Agger—Enrique
      ——-Gerrard—Lucas—Xabi Alonso/Hernanes/Schweinsteiger
      Tevez——–Carroll/Cavani—-Suarez

      • Bert says:

I agree Carroll should be given a chance in this formation, my post was more about what would win a match today and in the coming weeks maybe play Kuyt, Suarez & Bellamy and start bringing Carroll on once the match is out of sight until he proves worthy of a starting berth.

Not sure on your 2012/13 line-up, has a bit of the ChampMan about it! Tevez really?

  • AK says:

Good line up but why Henderson in the team?. The player who cant tackle and makes a 1 yard pass backwards all the time. I would replace him with my Grandma who probably does more running than him. replace Henderson with Gerard (If fit) or put Downing where Kuyt is and Put Kuyt behind Suarez.

    • Bert says:

      Hi AK,

I think he might excel in that position (well he’s certainly not a right winger) but I did say other than the front 3 they are interchangeable, maybe give Maxi or Adam a go there – obviously when available it would be Gerrard’s position.
