The return of Daniel Agger really couldn’t have come at a better time. After the 1-1 draw with Norwich, much was made about Liverpool’s difficulty keeping clean sheets at Anfield this season, and the need for a new top class centre back was one of the hot topics on the post-match radio phone ins.
I’m well aware that Daniel Agger’s injuries have affected his form over the last couple of years but I have never doubted the ability of the Dane, who actually started off this season in good form. When he returns to full fitness and gains a bit of form I can see him eventually being our main man in defence. I have nothing against Martin Skrtel but he is prone to the odd mistake every now and then and would most likely be the man to make way for Agger when he returns to full fitness.
On the other hand, the win over West Brom at the weekend showed that the Agger-Skrtel partnership has some serious potential, with both putting in solid performances to earn Liverpool a clean sheet. With Jamie Carragher’s form being patchy so far this season, some have questioned his place in the starting line up, preferring to see the younger partnership of Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger instead. For me, Carragher’s organisational skills make him my preferred partner for Daniel Agger at centre back for the time being at least. As good as Skrtel and Agger are, none of them are as vocal as Carragher and the defence seems to lack a bit of organisation whenever the vice captain isn’t playing.
If you look at many of the top teams, they all seem to possess at least one central defender with excellent ball playing skills, which has become more fashionable in the modern game. Daniel Agger is one of these defenders and no one should ever underestimate how important it is to have players who can keep a calm head while under pressure and pick the right pass. Having Agger in the team on a regular basis will no doubt have a positive effect on our defensive record, and one bonus is that the promising Danny Wilson (who has at times been likened to Agger) will be able to learn from the Dane.

One thing i always ask is this: Why is it that defenders in other clubs score goals& those in liverpool don’t except (Glen Johnson&Aurelio(freekicks)). The likes of Gallas of Arsenal,Terry of chelsea,Baines,Ekoto they get d goals. I have seen Skrtel squander a lot of goal chances his legs are not straightend for goals, Carragher won’t put himself in such goal position poor positioning sense. Defensively Skrtel’s just fair,Carager used to be good bt now he’s old. I dont think it’s fair enough to judge d partnership btw Agger&Skrtel by one game,let’s be patient. Agger is a good defender anyway but injuries! Mayb we should try to give Coate a chance. This Wilson guy is he really dat good?i’ve seen him playd once trust me it was a below average performance! Mayb it was his bad day anyway.
We have given Coates 2 chances and he was poor in both games. He needs to improve if he is going to play in the premiership
Agger already is one of the best centre backs in Europe the only issue with him is injuries. A fully fit Agger would be welcome at any team and would force himself into the starting 11 of nearly every team on the planet if he had a whole year injury free. I’ve said for years his positioning is second only to Carra and out an out our best in the air till Coates gets settled. On the ball he is good enough to play as a creative midfielder watch defenders when he comes forward they just can’t deal with him.

Agger an Carra, Skrtel backup
next year:
Agger n Skrtel, Carra backup
after that:
Agger n Coates, Skrtel backup.
Agree for the most part. I think Skrtel should be chosen over Carra every 3rd or 4th match this year. Whenever Coates and Carra are not playing Coates should sit next to Carra and learn. Would love to see Agger fit for rest of season, article is correct in that LFC always looks more dangerous when he’s on the pitch. Bellamy always brings that same aggression on when he plays.
THE PROBLEMS..
1. Im nothing worry about defender because we was haved 4th top class centeral defender ( cara, skertel,agger and coates ) and 5 player left and right ( enrique, johnson , kelly ,flanagan and robinson )- this 9 player we have a good movement and we not abble to buy more..
2. Im not worry with DM because we have lucas, spearing. Adam / Hendo can play there too.
3. Dont Worry about midfield because we have adam/hendo/gerrard/downing/kyut/maxi and jonjo ( promising )maybe we can call back aquilani.
4. But im so worry at striker line because we only have 2 + 1 ( suarez/caroll/bellarmy ). We must get 1 more prolific striker and i think tavez will good add.
4. one more side is natural left wing. When downing play at right he can pass/cross/cut and shoot but not at left . He look lazy because enrique was covered his pacy place. so i like to add at this side with adam.
