This was shown again against Chelsea. It was the first game since the hugely disappointing goalless draw at home to Swansea, against a Chelsea side full of attacking quality and with four wins from their first five home games.
But far from feeling overawed or attempting to sit back and defend for a point, Liverpool attacked from the off and dominated the first half. Dalglish’s decision to bring in Maxi Rodriguez and Craig Bellamy ahead of Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll was vindicated when the former pair combined to score the opening goal.
Most sides have been casually swept aside by Manchester City so far this season, with Fulham the only side to take a point from them in the league. But after demonstrating their ability to dominate at Chelsea, and City’s damaging defeat to Napoli on Tuesday, Dalglish’s fine record in the big games may be about to continue.
