THREE Positions Liverpool need to look at this January

Image for THREE Positions Liverpool need to look at this January

This weeks international break gives the club managers a chance to evaluate their squads ahead of the busy December period. With the transfer window open on January 1st many of the Premier league teams that are planning to make any new acquisitions will want to do so sooner rather than later.

It has been an up and down season for Liverpool. Publicly they declared a serious title challenge but privately Kenny Dalglish must admit that unless they sign three more players in January, they could easily fail to finish in the Champions League places or the Europa League. That would depend on who played in the two cup finals.

They have one of the most consistent goalkeepers in world football. That area is sorted although you would worry if you were a Liverpool fan should Reina receive a long term injury. The biggest concern is the Liverpool defence. Dalgleish seems unsure who to play at right back in Glenn Johnson’s absence and Johnson himself is becoming more and more injured. The three youngsters Martin Kelly, Danny Wilson and Joe Flanagan all look decent players but they are lacking a decent centre back.

Jamie Carragher is not getting any younger and his fitness levels are not what they were. In my opinion Martin Skrtel is a liability defender and Daniel Agger is very injury prone. The Uruguay international Sebastian Coates is looking like he is having trouble adapting to the pace of the Premier league. An offer for Gary Cahill wouldn’t be a bad choice.

well said but i think we are lacking a creativety in midfield.

no creative midfield and it costing us. Gerrad is one we have but injuries and age. we need someone like van der vaart, kaka, lucas, aquiliani to take of the burden of suarez in providing goals.

I would agree about cahill he is a handy defender and would improve our back line …

HOWEVER you have linked us with Rodellega and Sean Wright Phillips two mediocre players… we may as well buy back ngog instead of rodellega and as for SWP maxi is better than him!!

I think we need to look at getting someone like Eden Hazard or at least someone of his quality for the midfield role and up front a poacher who will just sit in the box and tap in a few easy chances – would Kuyt up front be an option if we got a world class winger – I think so!!

Also aquilani could definitly be used in midfield and the salw of meireles looks a bad bit of business!!

Lost all respect for your opinions with your analysis of the right back situation and to suggest we need the likes of wright phillips to fight for a place in Europa league!! You having a laugh? Bad run of form but still 3 points off 4th, second most creative team in the league, 2nd best defence in the league! Soon as we hit some good form or luck we will be right up there! Oh dear we’ve had a few draws after hitting the woodwork a few hundred times we must be awful. We do need to strengthen in Jan every team always does but not with the mid table level players you’ve suggested! We need an out an out wide right winger an out an out centre forward to challenge Carroll and maybe we need a centre back but not definite as we have agger (world class and plays more than some centre backs) carra (still really good but can’t be used all the time anymore) skrtel (reliable if not spectacular) and then you’ve got promising coates (gunna be awesome) and young versatile centre backs who can play multiple positions and all have huge potential Wilson, Kelly (better at right back though and stealing Johnsons spot way things are going), wisdom and coady.

Who’s “JOE” Flanagan???? Is he any relation to liverpools young promising right back “JOHN” Flanagan??!!

I’m sick of hearing january window on this site.Buy dis-buy dat.Very sick.Creative midfielder? What happened2Adam?lost his balls.Where R Raul&aquiliani?Kenny sold&loaned them stupidly4Mr Adam.Pls give Comolli D money cos kenny will just waste it again.Where is our No.9?Wasted gud £s on carroll.I could use dat money2buy a RMF&CF but no kenny just gave newcastle a gud pot of gold4 a yellow rock wit glitters all over it.If we don’t make europe let us B blunt&blame D man cos he wasted D money on poor buys.PS,don’t buy Cahill cos buying him would kill Coates confidence.YNWA.

Need to get someone to replace Lucas. He’s not Liverpool material.

U lost all credibility when you suggested to buy swp and hugo rodallega. Buying Cahill is a half decent option but let’s face it we will have abt 4 senior cb and 2 reserves (Coates n Wilson) adding to the fact we have no European football. Agger made it through internationals n carra is back, skrtel a decent cb prob not world class but how many teams can afford a world class defender on the bench. Benches are meant for players who can do a job without being consistently world class. Forget abt rb, it’s the least of our worry now with ample quality there now. Johnson still has quality n when he regain full fitness he’ll be international class. Same with Kelly. Rw lw an striker our top priority with henderson downing carrol all not performing as needed in those three areas. Currently they are good as squad players. Bellamy and someone pacey on the right like Walcott n villa as a striker for 20 mil or less seems worth it. Why are we paying 30 mil plus for villa n Carroll when aguero went for the same price is beyond me. Shud have gotten aguero n Suarez.

The Aguerro v Carroll argument annoys me so much….right listen: Carroll went from non European Newcastle to Europa league Liverpool in the January transfer window for 31 million rising to 35 million on decent but not extravagant wages and we were willing to pay that much because it was final day of window we were over charging by 20 million on Torres and we wanted to get a replacement in before letting Torres go who needed to leave before he became a bad influence on the team. Aguero went to city at the start of the summer when city met his transfer buy out clause of 35 million rising to 42 went to a champions league team and is supposedly getting paid over 200 thousand a week.
