Why we have found it hard to put the smaller teams away

|

A disturbing statistic has begun to surface in recent days; that Dalglish’s record as manager of Liverpool (this term) is beginning to align with that of his predecessor Roy Hodgson. Clearly Dalglish must address this impediment urgently if Liverpool are to break back into the top four. Five points from nine against Norwich, West Brom and Swansea is not the ideal footing before two massive clashes between Chelsea and Man City after the international break.

There’s plenty of argument to qualify the points dropped; Liverpool having the highest tally for hitting the frame of the goal in the Premiership, the promoted keepers having the games of their lives at Anfield, missing Carragher and Gerrard etc. None of it’s good enough. The management sensibly decided to replace the ineffective Henderson at half time at the weekend with Kuyt, but what would actually have been very sensible would have been to start with Kuyt instead of the inadequate Henderson.

He’ll come good but I’d like to echo David Tyrer’s sentiments in his article that surely the starting eleven should be picked on merit. Suarez, Kuyt and Lucas seem to get the best out of Maxi (remember their move of the match at the Britannia in the cup, not to mention Maxi’s consecutive hatricks towards the end of last season) so why muddle through with other players that haven’t proven themselves when we need the points? What is the point in having a seasoned premiership goal scorer like Bellamy on the bench when he has the most pace in the whole squad and can play in either Downing or Carroll’s positions when they are misfiring?

It is clear Liverpool have been slipping, currently tied on points with Arsenal (who had amassed only six points from six games not so long ago) and allowing Spurs to cantor past with an early game in hand. These type of draws have been a staple for too long and memorably tainted Benitez’s otherwise excellent penultimate season in charge, but were in hindsight easier to swallow because at least Liverpool were in contention for the title in 08/09.  Let’s not see the same mistakes in or from our starting eleven at Stamford Bridge.

If benitez had £100m then and brought in players he wanted like david silva and villa, we were and could have turned those drws into wins. This current one is appalling to say the least

yur an idiot!!! Benitez took over a champions league winning team and then cried about not being able to put his own touch to the team. how could someone be given such an opportunity and ruin it inside 6 months. Also, maybe a villa player but david villa wouldn’t be stupid enough to take such a stepdown. Champions league to carling cup…wind yur neck in!!!

    That’s exactly how i feel.
If Benitez was given this much money we could’ve been in much better position.

personally i feel that we are good defensively but attackingly we aint good.i am very sad that there aint pace in the squad.arsenal signed Gervinho for only 12 million and that’s only one example of many players.Mata for 25 while Downing costs 20 million?so far i know who to choose easily, even if we have to pay 5 more million.this summer,Kenny,Comolli and FSG wanted to create a squad for the future and to add to that than do what we did the last years, sell to buy.it’s a squad with potential but needs a lot of work to achieve great things.even if we spent 35 million on Carroll,it would be a great thing to have him on the bench.keep in mind other strong teams in premier:Chelsea have Torres,Drogba,Kalou,Anelka,Sturridge,Lukaku as strikers.City have Dzeko,Aguero,Balotelli,Tevez, United have Rooney,Chicharito,Welbeck even Tottenham have Adebayor,Defoe,Pavlyuchenko to name a few.and we gonna need another top class winger too. This is one squad i’d really like to see and i dont think it’s too unrealistic:
    Reina
    Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
    Gerrard Aquilani Adam
    Lavezzi Cavani Suarez
Bench:Doni Kelly Carragher Coates Robinson Henderson Lucas Maxi Downing Kuyt Bellamy Carroll
Still have hope that Aquilani will return to us and play greatly cauz he is a very good player and we shouldnt have given him away.Carroll would take a lot of positives from working with Cavani too and Lavezzi is a speedster,he is too quick, great dribbling, crossing and finishing skills.i know making a 35 million a bench player sounds very strange but sometimes you have to take a difficult decision for the good of the team.and Henderson,Downing cost a lot but need to up their game.Lavezzi Cavani Suarez would be a hell of an attacking trio.YNWA

Like your team selection, especially Aquilani and the front line. I do not understand that Dalglish does not see the lack of creativity in the midfield where Aquilani would have done very well. We are lacking such a player. Spurs have Modric, Barca have Iniesta and Messi, Man City have Silva. The point is LFC without Gerrard there is nobody capable of creating and giving that perfectly weighted killer pass to the strikers. Adam’s passes seem too heavy and too long most of the time. You want somebody who is difficult to mark or take the ball from in the box, that tricky and clever midfielder. Thats what the team is lacking to break down other teams. Kenny please find that player urgently.

  • Why Liverpool found it’s hard to put the smaller team away? 1 Liverpool players degrade physically along the 10+ C cup matches played where on saturday they played below the expectation giving Swansea team the opportunity to outplay in few occasiom bringing Liverpool defence in more difficulties was saved by Reina the Liverpool best goal keeper 2 waiting – and remaining behind the ball possessor that’s stop the development and the creativity waisting time giving the opponent the opportunity recapture 3 waiting encircle by opponnent defences in the box where it’s difficult to be wellplace and scores easily 4 counter attack or individually asking for ball in the box to score whatever it’s became very rare so to face maximum Liverpool have to increase the power physically to be outplay and out wit to be on the top it’s not too late YNWA
