SPEAKING with The Daily Mirror during the opening of a new sports retail centre, Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt touched on a number of issues regarding the Reds this season; particularly the present and what the future holds, as well as revealing personal thoughts on his own Anfield future.

The Dutch international highlighted the frustrations of the Reds inconsistency in the league as well as the need to improve, whilst stating that he believes the fight for a Champions League place is still a possibility:

“You can say we have had a maddening inconsistency at times, even if we have been unlucky. Maybe that’s because we have a lot of young players, a lot of new players at the club, we have to keep playing like that, but take the chances we are creating, and there were signs against Everton and Stoke we are starting to do that.”

“We need to find the consistency, and get the points we deserve and we will be there, and we want to be there as soon as possible. In the dressing room, we are not satisfied with what has happened so far. We have a sense that we are a coming force, that we are building something special. We have a sense that we can do something next season for sure, but we are still in this season, and we still have a chance. We cannot give up on any spot in the Premier League and we are still in the FA Cup, so we have to keep fighting this season to deliver.”

Kuyt continued: “We have to work now by thinking if we get three points at QPR we get a bit closer [to the Champions League places], and you never know what’s going to happen, ” before adding: “We have to keep going, and even if we are some points behind now, we cannot give up.”

Liverpool’s number 18 also remarked on the youth in the squad, insisting that the future looks bright for the Reds:

“We have a sense that we are a coming force, that we are building something special,” he explained. “Future wise, I think we will be okay. I think we have much to look forward to, because there is a sense we can go places with this squad, because there are some players with real talent.”

He then revealed his own frustrations at no longer being a guaranteed starter for the Reds, and although he insists he wishes to retire at Anfield, Kuyt states if he doesn’t play as much as he thinks he deserves, he may be forced to move clubs:

“I want to play every game. It is very disappointing when I don’t – like the Carling Cup Final for instance. From my point of view I’m feeling really well physically, I don’t think I’ve ever felt stronger, and I’m ready to play games, I am ready to play every game of the season. For me it is all about trying to convince the manager he needs to pick me more than he does at the moment.”

Kuyt then added: “I can see myself staying at Anfield for the rest of my career, as long as I am satisfied and am entitled to play in each game to get to the level I want to be,” before finishing: “As long as I play as much as I want to play then I will be happy, but if it gets to the point where I am not playing every game anymore, then maybe I will have to make another decision – but I don’t think about that at this stage.”

Do you feel Kuyt deserves more game-time this season, or have we already seen the best of Dirk The Destroyer?

We do not have a right winger, Kenny has frustratingly kept putting Henderson on the right this season, if the choice is Henderson on the right or Kuyt it has to be Kuyt.
But ideally we really should have a proper fast and clever player to play out on the wing, why has Johnson never been tried there?

What do you expect from stupid transfer buys!
Henderson, Adam, Downing, Carroll and now you can add Enrique all have been well below par and deserve to be playing in a mid table team… Oh thats right, we are now!!!
I have watched every game over the last 7 seasons and can not remember a season we have played so poorly! People complain about Rafa, truth be told, he has never been able to spend that amount of money at once! He had to let Bellamy and Cisse go just to get money for Torres! I am sure if he had the cash, he would not only have kept at least one of them, but would have purchased Barcelone duo, David Villa and Dani Alves who both almost signed but previous owners not agreeing fees!
How different would they have made… Not to mention Torres would have stayed!
Am soooooooo frustrated at the moment that i can’t help but feel angry and KD and Comolli for the signings they chose!
Soooooooo much money down the drain! I wonder how NESV feel about this whole situation! They claim they were targeting fourth… OMG how wrong! We will be fighting to hold down seventh at this stage!
      :((

to be honest ive never been a fan of kuyts, yes he works hard scores the odd goal and he has scored important ones too. but hes no winger, or striker he misses more than he scores, his first touch is crap he has no speed even worse now his commitment i cant complain about.we need 2 decent wide men a decent striker, and a ball playing midfield player. the defence is ok downing is and allways has been a average player sterling is a better player than him now, raw yes but so was micheal owen.carroll has youth on his side, as does henderson but everyone has to be kidding themselves
    this team
is good enough. we need better players for next level even if it means selling kuyt, johnson downing, oor carroll.buying british has not worked out buy the best, out there its not were they come from its about quality and lets be honest were lagging in uk in that dept.. look at are teams england , ireland scotland. i,ll say goodbye kuyt thanks but bye, along with a few others…

Players who should definately leave anfield in the summer, carroll,it doesnt matter if his young, his slow and lazy,adam,maxi,kuyt..and get players for the position, winger for the wing,i feel our last wide man was mchmanan,a decade ago, forward owen, torres just gave the 1o2 season..and on a later note we are so behind ‘Manchester United’ we cant stand up to them in arguements..that is how low we have come

Another dark night of absolute humiliation and embarrassement by Kenny Dalglish and his squad, the squad he has personally chosen and set up for the current season. Kenny Dalglish and his squad tarnish the heritage that Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley left for this historic club. Kenny Dalglish and his squad are committing the biggest crime in this club’s history by molesting on this heritage. Everybody is feeling fed up by listening and reading all the time different irrational statements by the side of Kenny Dalglish as he can persuade first and above all himself that under him the team is progressing! Everytime he leads this team to another humiliating and embarrassing defeat he needs to realize that he places a gravestone to LFC fans’ dreams and expectations in all over the world to see their beloved team returning back to where it really deserves to be! I personally can’t explain it otherwise; Kenny Dalglish is on a denial stage! He doesn’t realize that by not seeing the raw reality, that he is not a capable manager for the modernized football and the manager who can turn the fortunes of this club around and as long as he behaves in a selfish manner he causes a serious damage! Back in 1991 he stepped down as LFC manager in a period which that was unnecessary and now that it is imperative to do so, why doesn’t him? ISN’T THAT A REAL PROOF OF A SELFISH, EGOISTIC, AND ARROGANT BEHAVIOR?

  • Chambers says:

Before the game once it was shown that Adam was to start I put us down for a defeat. It sounds dreadful but then that word is perfectly coupled to Adam as a player.Unfortunately KD is completely blind to the inadequacies of Adam and even winning two games without him didn’t seem to tell him anything! I said Adam was for a mediocre mid-table team and he has proven so as we are NOW that mid-table outfit. My prediction at the start of the season of 9th place remains my solid belief as nothing has been shown to make me change that. Adam will be trotted out game after game to make this true! This is a hard thing to write let alone believe but there are none so blind as those who cannot see.

    • Ankur says:

Did you even watch the match?
Adam was substituted almost as soon as the 2nd half started.
How is he the reason of the loss?

  • NJRedsFan says:

I’ve been screaming from the rafters, or at least the far side of the Atlantic, all season that Johnson is the best right winger we have. He can put crosses in but even more important is that he’s not afraid to drive into the box! The only problem now is that Kelly is injured, leaves the back right corner a bit thin for Johnson to be played forward.

  • the frustration lfc is facing is cause by kenny dalglish and i personally i hate (kenny big head dalglish)since he bought all those average player to our club and allowed ALBERTO AQUILANI and RAUL go since then and following the games that lfc have been loosing which could have not been so i then understand that kenny lack tactical approaches in game and he (kenny)can’t turn games around when it matters, even pepe reina have been due to be a bench warmer as to give other keeper a chance,a manager that has the likes of -BELLAMY -MAXI -KUYT -SUAREZ- upfront and he the (manager) could not be on the top 4 on the table then you know such coach is not up to,i only feel sad every day because lfc is a club in my hearth but i sorry for the owners who does not want to sack him (kenny dalglish).
