Why Losing This Man Would Cripple Liverpool

BEING a Liverpool fan hasn’t been as easy as it used to be these past two seasons. It’s been either bad news or a disappointing team performance week in and week out. That was until victory in the Carling Cup. It seemed to drown out the duller days of the season and maybe even mildly alleviate the agony of our last two defeats to Arsenal and Sunderland.

Sadly, no amount of cup joy or glory can drown out remarks like the one’s Luis Suarez made in his Canal Plus interview expressing the new Kop favourites’ willingness to play alongside his national team mate Diego Lugano in PSG.

Though I have personally read very little into his statements, a move away from Liverpool for Suarez would be heart-breaking news for the Liverpool faithful. To me it seemed more as if he was trying to show respect for the Club (PSG) rather than suggest a burning desire to play for them. But however disillusioned I may be; the possibility remains that Luis Suarez may be growing more and more frustrated with every misplaced pass, shot, jeer and Premier League defeat. Maybe the stress of English football, the ferocity of the crowds away from home, the weight of the number-7 shirt and the demands and expectations of the supporters and management are too much for the 25-year-old.

One thing I’m quite sure of though is that losing Suarez would be disastrous for us in more ways than one. Not only would finding a replacement for him be extremely difficult with so many other clubs possibly looking to strengthen their squads this summer but it would also deter potential signings. Any club that loses two top class strikers like Torres and Suarez in less than two seasons would definitely find it hard to woo any major talent. Yes, we are not as financially troubled as we used to be but we can’t make money the only lure for players who join the club. We need them to believe in the team and share the Shankly vision, not to see it as an easy pay cheque every week. Being a less attractive choice would also mean breaking the bank for average quality players. Imagine waking up to the news of us buying another “Carroll” for an amount in excess of £30 million.

Apart from that, whoever replaces him would need time to settle in at the club, find his rhythm and build chemistry between himself and his team mates. A chemistry which I feel is already starting to grow between Suarez and the team, particularly Carroll. The duo has seemed to be very collaborative whenever paired up front even though that has not been the case many times this season. Upsetting the growth of this tender partnership could hamper any hopes we have of making an impact on the league or any other competitions in the near future. Carroll, to me, plays better around Suarez. Losing Suarez would inadvertently mean losing any hopes of a potent Carroll.

It’s no doubt that after little over a season at the club, Suarez has made himself quite indispensable and identified himself as our new spearhead in attack. I’m not saying we would never recover if we lost him but it would take some time. Time we don’t have. We’re pretty much still trying to recover from the loss of Torres if you ask me. He has proven that he has the qualities of a player we can build a team around and I hope King Kenny and his staff are working hard to keep him happy at Anfield and not just make him feel obliged to play for us. European football is definitely a plus, but I think a strong finish to the season and hopefully success in the FA Cup would make Liverpool a very attractive transfer destination this summer and strengthen the allegiance of key players in the team, Suarez being top of my list.

To let Suarez go would b catastrophic for LFC. THey really need to try very hard to keep him. I would’ve loved to cEL Niño and Suarez with SG behind them play for us. To let Suarez go would also mean victory for Alex Mc Taggart cos that’s what he said after the affair with P Evra. YNWA

As much as I agree that we must try and hang on to Luis, I also think it is vitally important that we recruit some help for him, for me Cavani would be an ideal foe, I think Suarez is stronger than some like Fergie have given him credit, this man is loyal, he has that in his make-up, and I believe he will stay, it took 3 seasons of media hype before Torres was taken away by bright lights and promises of trophies which obviously did not materialise.

Sign Cavani and that will keep Suarez happy

KD knows the right thing,i only hope he do it.It’s time we look abroad cos these british players he’s obssessed with, are abviously not going to take us anywhere.

  • If dat dalglissh still remain as d manager, D lfc(OWNER) henry and kkd should do all their possible bst to keep d only machine player aft stephen gerald luis suares at ANFIELD. And go outside premier league to bring more attractive european great players if they want liverpoolfc club to boune back to former liverpoolfc club .

I agree Luis must stay! Disasterous if he goes at this stage in our gradual rebuilding period

unfortunately Suarez has to put up wth the likes of Hendo, Downing, Adam and Carroll – I would be looking for a way out myself if I was surrounded by such dross, and a stubborn inept manager in Dalglish at the helm.

We have regressed under Dalglish, and Suarez knows it will be at least 5 years (the length of the contracts of our overpriced KD buys) before we can challenge again… I can’t blame him for wanting to move on. LFC are finished

  • Gitano says:

It will be a foolish mistake on the part of LFC to let Suarez go. The consequences will be too much to bear. Losing Xabi and Torres were obvious mistakes. Suarez is a machines and getting world class players from outside of the premiership would keep him happy. One thing that annoys me the most is the fact that English players have become the focal point of LFC and it totally out of point. The only way to keep Suarez is by bringing in top quality players in the summer and those players must be from outside the EPL because the work load on Suarez alone is too much and needs to be shared. YNWA!!!
