This Is No Longer A Joke…

WTF? I hear a million LFC fans screaming with me.

How on earth does this happen? And keep happening, again and again and again? And what the flying, fulminating fiddlesticks can anyone do about it?

There was some beautiful football on display against West Brom.

The midfield, for once, wasn’t keeping the ball to itself, but was getting balls into the box with impressive fluency.

Suárez was sublime, as he always is except where it counts. Liverpool were a footballing side in the best Anfield tradition. But….

At half-time, after 45 minutes of total Liverpool dominance with nothing to show for it, I pondered popping down to the bookies next door to see what I could get on a 1-0 win for West Brom. But I decided that would be unacceptably disloyal. Silly arse. (I should have remembered that any horse or team I bet on is automatically doomed.) But I could see it coming, and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one.

But we can’t just blame this on luck. There’s something wrong. And what on earth can be done? In the sixteenth century it would have been easy. We’d have fitted up some poor old woman for putting a curse on the Anfield goalposts and burnt her at the stake. But of course we’ve moved on from there. Or have we? Sacking the manager for our inability to bang it in after flawless build-up play would make about as much sense as burning witches.

We have seen Kenny preparing to fall on his sword if it’s required of him. One thing about Kenny, he’s not a narcissist or a bullshitter. When he says that it’s all about the club, not about him, he means it. I can easily grasp the idea that Kenny, though an unparalleled servant of the club, may not necessarily be the right man for the job at the present juncture. As he says, he didn’t seek the job; he was asked to step in at a difficult point, and he gave it all he had. No-one doubts that. I really don’t want Kenny to leave Anfield with anyone thinking he’s let the club down. He’d never do that, and I for one will never make any such suggestion.
[ad_pod id=”unruly-video” align=”center”]
But it’s a terrible irony that Kenny Dalglish, who had an unerring eye for goal back in the day, might lose his job for presiding over a team which couldn’t find the goal if it was a bass drum in a telephone kiosk.

But one has to ask questions about the training. I wasn’t the only one who watched that video of the “skills challenge” between Luis, Hendo and Seba Coates, where they had to hit the crossbar, and asked myself “hang on a minute, do LFC really need any more practice at hitting the woodwork”? And Hendo won the challenge, and guess who slammed it into the frigging West Brom crossbar? We have to laugh, or else we’d cry.

After all, it looks as though the Bitters – who at least took two points off Man Ure – may have got the better of us this season, even despite three defeats. And thus it looks like we’re headed for eighth place. Eighth? There isn’t such a place. Yes, all right, we’ve been there before. In 1994. And before that? Nineteen-sixty-frigging-THREE! And, if we don’t hold on to eighth, it’ll be the worst performance over a season since the pre-Shankly era. However many cups we win.

D’you hear that lads? It’s eight feet high. It’s eight yards wide. It’s made of wood and painted white. It’s got netting at the back. Now GET THE FREAKING BALL IN THERE!

If only us screaming for it would land the ball inside the opposing net…alas just how on this earth could this be happening over and over again. I am not that smart, I do not know the answer, but after watching the first 35 minutes an ominous thought crept into my mind. What was it? I bet all of you reading the article know. Sad, the entire situation.

    • Chan says:

KD had said after the game he does not know what more to do. That in a nutshell provide us with an answer, it’s time to let KFD go. Get in someone who knows how to fix our problem.

Contrarily to popular believe, KD is not all about the club but all about himself. Any person with a shred of dignity would after given 113 mill and the stablity and trust by the owners would be honest and admit they are simply not the one for the job, at least not any longer. Not KD. Lying a dismal 8th, with a bad run that dates back to 1953, losing to a team that had not won at Anfield since the 1960’s, paying top dollar for “potentials” where others paying the same or lower amount would get the real deal, he hung on. It does not matter if LFC goes down with him.

Let’s face it, it’s no laughing matter. We are no longer Fortress Anfield or even the Mighty Reds. Not since the days of Rafa. For that we can lay the blame on 2 men and there were at Anfield on Sunday. We sacked one for bringing us to where we are now, why are we not doing the same to the other for keeping us here? For winning the CC? Why not appoint A.M? He won it with the Brums and on.. got them relegated. For being in the F.A cup final? Portsmouth won it not too long ago and where are they now?

KD had such dismal record with players and tactics, why would FSG want to risk our future and millions more on him?

Its time for KD to go and this is no joke!

    • chevy says:

Did you just say it’s not kenny’s fault for not getting the goals.. i’d say you love him too much to not realize the bitter the truth. if coaches don’t play a part in how a team plays and banging in the goals, then i don’t see a reason why we would need one. i would blame it entirely on KD. for his abysmal transfers, choosing mediocre english talent over top European potentials. opting to pay 35mil on an absolute garbage..

we could have got a much better goalscorer for a a quater of that sum in bemba or cisse. and ofcoure his foolish team selections, when a guy like rodriguez and bellamy keeps hittin the goals, i wonder why their chances are limited.
KD has put this team in such a big mess, it would take some good time to get back to past glory

  • RedRoy says:

No it’s not a joke! I have’nt been laughing for a few seasons now. Top and bottom of it is we’re not the mighty reds anymore, this is the worst team we’ve had for 50 odd years, FACT. Kenny broke another record yesterday, when we lost to Westbrom at Anfield, now that’s a joke! Best part of it is Kenny can’t explain it. Simple Kenny get some better players.

    • Lfc4life says:

Get more players ? You trust Kenny with funds??
No tactics, strange team selections and currently has us on our knees… Fact!

      Rafa is ready and waiting!

      • Red says:

Have to agree here with Lfc4life, we were the most FEARED team in europe under BENITEZ…….FACT!!!

      • Moocher says:

Well I hope he waits a long time. Give it a rest,
Rafa has had his day. FACT!

        • Chan says:

So does KD, he had his day and showed where our future lies, a cup and mid table team. Is that your definition of better days?

  • Davie says:

We need to develop a lethal side to our game. Its goals that count its been so bloody frustrating all season. We would be in the top 4 if we had converted our chances. Some of the players have under performed as well. I feel we need a couple of quality signings in the meantime Kenny give youth a chance.

    • Red says:

Kenny should RESIGN at end of season, if he REALLY loves LFC!, then I and many more will respect him, for doing the right thing.

      • Moocher says:

Agree.. Don’t think he up to the job. But I don’t want the return of Rafa as he is not the answer!

      • steven neo says:

Dalglish must go ,a manager has to wait until 70+ minutes to make a sub when the team play badly and doesn’t has faith in the youth……

        • Chan says:

KD waited 70 mins b’cos as usual he is clusless and does not know what to do. Compare that with AF in the Charity Sheild, down 2-0, subs at halftime and won 3-2. Did i say their beat MC in that game?

  • Costasy says:

Kenny Dalglish’s time is up as Liverpool manager! This Liverpool under him cannot be called a real football team at any point! Unfortunately Damien Comolli’s belief that the restrictions placed upon him led to Liverpool signing average players who have underperformed this season is becoming a nightmare! The LFC fans in all over the world are counting the days to pass as they can sit and watch their beloved team make them proud not embarrass and humiliate them. Against West Bromwich the flashing amber light switched off and the flashing red light switched on! Standard Chartered is paying for sponsorship £ 20,000,000 a year, Warrior sports will be paying £ 25,000,000 per year, so John W. Henry and Thomas Werner should protect those sponsors’ investments by coming face-to-face with the reality. We will all be grateful to Kenny Dalglish, we would love to see him remaining with us by occupying another position to the club, but LFC NEEDS A WORLD CLASS MANAGER, PERIOD!!! All those who firmly support Kenny Dalglish it’s time for them to realize that LFC is no longer a local brand, it is a global brand! That’s why the current LFC’s owners are not British but Americans; that’s why LFC is attracting fans from all over the world that passionately live and breathe to see this historic club return back to its glory days!

    • Erin says:

You have hit the nail in the head! Kenny needs to leave. Move upstairs would be desirable. We need a modern manager that can spot and develop talent. Unfortunately, the past is holding some of us down. Keep the faith seems to be the order of the day. As if faith will score goals. Kenny has failed, facts are there for all who wish to see.

    • Chan says:

Well said Costacy. We need a world class manager and KD is not it. He is clueless (he did said he does not know what more to do after the West Brom game).

Many had put downed Rafa but he got a job at Inter (although short lived) right after he left us. Can anyone of you imagined a top team anywhere in the world offer the same for KD is he is sacked? No?

The answer is bitter but that is the truth.

  • Jay says:

    hahah..it’s called a net.
we’ve had many games, where we just dominated possesion, played teams off the park, played some beautifull football even Barcelona were jealous and they were going “damn!! we got a play like Liverpool! DAMN!”
Kenny has changed the club, and we should give him time to fix these goal scoring troubles.
( ps, sorry about the spelling errors, it’s a monday!)

    • Red says:

Jay,,,,,,,,,,,deluded KD fans like yourself, who are contributing to destroying LFC.

Wake up to reality people, Hodgson and now KD (both british),have sent us back, ten years!, after having spent OBCENE money, on CR*P player. CLUELESS!!!

    • Chan says:

Jay, we got beat by a team who maybe cost less than what KD paid for Carroll, whose manager we sacked for “underperforming”, a team who had not won at Anfield since the 1960’s (another record apart from “that” run that date back to 1953). Yes KD had changed the club alright, with all these record breaking spress. I don’t know about you but understands that 3 points is for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a lost (no matter how many times you hit the woodwork or how well you played)l. That is why top managers like AF, JM, PG do not whine about all this but actually fix it.

Jay, you are TRULY A KD FAN but a LFC fan you are not.

  • ed smeulders says:

At this rate,we`ll have lost more games at season`s end than games won,,wtf??!!And to all you who say…`oh,we could still win the FA CUP,therefore ending up with 2 trophys plus being back in Europe…..GET REAL,REALITY CHECK FOR YOU …Carling Cup win against Championship side on penalties…LUCKY!!!,FA Cup win against Chelsea…what,we can`t even score, don`t you need goals to win a game??!!!HIGHLY UNLIKELY….Europa League…finish 8th or worse(prob, will at this rate)and don`t win the FA Cup…we`ll be having to compete in the qualifying rounds of Europa League…..So to anyone who thinks this has been a successful season for LIVERPOOL FC (yes that`s LFC)…your`e deluded and living in lala land!!!

  • Red says:

Top team in europe = Benitez.

Mediocre team in uk and dreaming of europe = KD.

One example, midfield = Alonso and Maschareno (Benitez solution) vs Spearing and Henderson? (KD’s solution) = NO CONTEST.

The problem IS KD and his so called managerial team!……..and as long as they’re running LFC, KD will always blames luck, and goalposts, are’nt goalposts suppose to be there???.

    • Robin says:

well, who sent Alonso packing? Spearing/Henderson is not KD´s solution, remember Lucas? there is also this other fella, i forget his name, Steven something. that´s his ideal midfield, whether that is good enough, is another discussion.
How did Rafa do in the league anyway, I keep forgetting.
Nobody is saying everything Kenny´s done has been spot on, far from it, in fact. he has however earned some respect at this football club, I suggest some of you start showing some. You might think he should get the boot, and you´re certainly entitled to that opinion, I wouldn´t be surprised if he did, I would acctually understand it. Who though would you have replace him, surely not Rafa, look how he manhandled José´s treble winning Inter team. There is a reason he is unemplpoyed.

      • Red says:

ROBIN……With all due respect, Spearing and Henderson ARE KD’s solution, he keeps playing them, does he not?, he also signed Adam?, his plan B?, let’s not forget the obcene LFC funds that were wasted, on very average players.

As for RAFA, have we EVER been so far behind Man U?, like 37points?. Where we not ‘The most feared team in Europe’ under Rafa??.

I do not think that, KD should get the boot, no, but I do think that, his 80’s policy of ‘Buy British’ has worked, and will work, in to-days modern game,I suggest that he does the right thing, and resign, and go to his previous poasitin as LFC ‘Ambassador’ and yes bring Rafa back, to finish the job, he started!.

      • Red says:

Robin…..I would also like to add that, in the six month’s that Rafa managed Inter Milan, he did won TWO trophy’s, with half a team, through injuries, and without being given the funds, he was promised, to sign players, only after Rafa left that new signings came in.

So try and give credit where it’s due.

      • Chan says:

Robin, what Red says is right. Rafa’s worse finish was in his last season but he have no money and have to deal with the cowboys. He finished 5th in his first season but won us the CL, with GH’s team. Apart from that we are in the top 4 every year nearly winning the league in 2009. Can you in your wildest dream imagine KD matching that, let alone surpassing it? And KD did all these without 100 mill in a single season and owner’s support. On and Rafa won the FA cup too.

And Red was right, at Inter Rafa won trophies with little resources. In the first place if KD is sacked, can he like Rafa just walk into another top team in the world? I don’t think so.

  • stan howard says:

if we are lucky enough to get two cup wins it will be better than whoever finnishe 5th 6th and 7th by a mile, isnt that right arry.

  • Kenny says:

Dalglish made a huge mistake this season by not blooding the promising young players in the league because it is clear that he gave up on a top 4 position before the August transfer window closed. FSG should insist that Dalglish play the likes of Sterling,Suso,Morgan,Ngoo,Amoo,Coady,Wisdom,Adorjan and Ecclesston in the remaining 4 league games as the results of these games are irrelevant now.

Reina and Johnson should be sold in the summer and the money received on these sales should be used to resolve the goalscoring problem this team is suffering from.

It would be also be a help if the training sessions between games actually included some shooting practice sessions each day because it is quite clear that all the first team players have a real problem striking the ball properly when they get goal chances.

  • Cathy H says:

Alonso and Mascherano (Benitez solution), it was Benitez in 2008 who tried to sell Alonso in order to buy Gareth Barry, when the deal fell through we got our best season out of Alonso. We have never got over his loss and it was Houllier who bought him

    • Bekim says:

      Benitez bought Alonso. Fact.

    • Huw Jarse says:

Give me strength! You thought Houllier bought Alonso?

    • Red says:

CATHY H…….You are totally wrong!, Houllier did NOT sign Xabi Alonso.

Alonso arrived at Liverpool, along with Luis García from Barcelona, marked the beginning of a new era at Anfield. Liverpool’s new coach Rafael Benítez sought to revolutionise the club and completely overhauled the squad…….FACT.

      • Lfc4life says:

This the problem… We have fans like c
Cathy H who don’t know too much big names in outlr history.

The biggest recent times name and most successful has been Rafa benitez!

Under him drawing away from home was a bad result! Under KD to lose at home is acceptable?

Too many of our so called fans bought into the media witch hunt against Rafa…. The same uneducated fans wanted him out and now want Give KD time?

In the Real job,Rafa had turned down one of the biggest jobs in the world to stay and fight with us. Working with financial constraints and freak owners.

1 poor injury savaged season(7th) with the club trying to save its existence behind closed doors and these so called fans got what they wanted Rafa out.

There’s a reason Fergie doesn’t comment on KD… Because under him we are not a threat.

Fergie must be laughing when he heard we turned down Mata for downing… I still have tears running down my cheeks… But it’s not from laughter!!!

When Rafa was there fergie, the media and all the oppo fans hated him…. Wonder why!

All educated LFC knew what would happen if Rafa went and here we are getting beat on the regular and a complete joke of a team… Fact!

You got what you wanted… But now we want someone tried, feared and tested!

Bring on Rafa and respect back to our club!

        • Chan says:

Rafa loves LFC to bits and turned down Real to stay with us and made us a team to be feared in Europe and England. We should just admit our mistake in letting him go and get him back. He would be here` inj a heart beat.

    • Chan says:

Houllier bought Alonso? What drugs are you on? No wonder you are a KD fan. Stop pretending to be a LFC fan to spare our club further embarassment.

  • Zinco says:

The right two or three signings and were there. How about ben Arfa . If we paid 35 million for caroll then surely. Then we go for goals imagine on the right side no dirk Kuyt but Adam Jonson. Pace power delivery and goal threat.and youth.then break the bank for mvila.he would shield our back four and have licence to attack whilst Lucas sits in. Gerrard gets a rest and we can use his versatility now he’s not 25 anymore .then we must get our striker right . He’s going to be young and must share in the owners vision . Matias Suarez would be my choice. Two problems may take a year to settle and Andy c. Must get Clinton Dempsey in have been saying it for years . 29 but guaranteed goals and leadership and experience . Keep Andy and take pressure off him . Squad now balanced. Young Coates to step up we look solid enough. My estimation is a net spend of 20 million . Cole 5 million and no wages to pay. Dirk 6 million . Carragher coaching . Maxi 4 million . Aquiline 6 million . Top quality young team should get stronger. Lfc are very close . Sometimes luck is getting a striker who clicks immediately. Papiss cisse and Torres early Liverpool . We need this more then anything and well be more then top four we’d be challenging so we must keep faith.

  • Bekim says:

How the mighty reds have fallen. GOD PLS HELP US.

  • anthony says:

Dalglish bust resign and bring back RAFA give him only 50million and see us in champions league again look at Newcastle with small budget they doing far better than Liverpool buy class players and keep kuyt ,it will be worst if you sale kuyt , Liverpool is a sinking ship now with KENNY

  • Red4Life says:

Its what i have been saying on this site for a while. Crap British signings that havent had PROVEN Premiership experience when we could have spent the same on overseas quality and experience not to mention bringing in our youngsters who have been working hard on the Liverpool way of playing – thankyou Rodolfo.

Sorry KD but you have to step aside ….. BRINGF BACK RAFA before any money is spent in the summer.

    YNWA
    (Very Annoyed LFC fan)

  • Mike Arms says:

Kenny Dalglish has the team playing the Liverpool way with quick pass & move, it is a joy to watch. Kenny is not responsible when a player like Glen Johnson makes a mistake. He is not responsible when players with proven goal scoring or assist records suddenly put on a different shirt and don’t perform. It’s not Kenny’s fault that one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe, Stevey G has had a poor albeit injury hit season. It is not Kenny’s fault that he was robbed of his star striker for 9 games. Kenny has made mistakes this season and not all of his signings are so far working out but show me a manager in their first full season who gets every thing perfect?

    • Chan says:

You mean KD is not responsible for those 12 loses, 11 draws that we have so far (it could get worse), a winless/losing run that dates back to 1953, spending 85 mill on 4 Championship players at best and almost ensuring its our worse finished in years?

Did Rafa had all smooth? Remenber thye Cowboys and lacked of money?

Did you extend the same consideration to RH?

  • Kenny says:

FSG have brought the curse of ‘the Bambino’ with them from Boston.

  • I don not give a toss about Dalgish, He needs to get the sack as soon as possible. I dont want to see that racist little man at this club again. Lfc comes first, not a idiot manager from 1 million B C. Just go Kenny.

  • Emile says:

This is not the first time they are showing who is the best at kicking the upright. Could it be that the idiots are practicing hitting the upright too many times and now that is exctly what they are hitting… Maybe they should should practice hitting it lower.

After all … careful what you wish for as it might come true.

  • Red Datuk says:

This season is a washout. Kenny’s job will hang on winning the FA Cup and let’s hope the players will do him justice by winning it. Let’s give Kenny time to rebuild a team. Look at MU, Sir Red Nose was given time to do it. Have some patience. Like what a chinese proverb says, “Revenge is never too late”

    • Chan says:

With due respect Red Datuk this is what we had been saying since the days of Souness “give them time”. We had waited 20 odd years (and would wait much longer if KD is still around). Fairy tales only happen once in a long long time.

  • Red says:

So,so true, Chan!, but only ‘Sound minded’ fans, can see that, KD is just not good enough for LFC, in to-days modern game.

He keeps breaking the wrong records, he has even surpassed Souness as the worst ever manager, and the sad truth is that he keeps saying that, we are progressing?.

With all due respect Kenny, admit that the job is beyond you,do the right thing, and move upstairs if you really love LFC, and I for one will always respect you for it.
