The Kids Are Alright?

WHAT the hell was that all about on Tuesday night, eh?

Just when you thought you knew Liverpool, they go and do something like that and actually impress us. It’s been rare but there have been moments like that when, for one game, most players impress and we get a good performance and result that matches it.

As few and far as those games have been this season I’m just going to savour it for once though, as I’ve had my say many time this season about where we went wrong and what I believe should be done to right this.

It was just nice to see the team enjoying their football and showing no fear for once.

Equally as enjoyable was seeing Chelsea humbled and I couldn’t help but smirk as it just dawned on me that they were now out of the running for a Champions League berth via the top-4 and would now have to beat Bayern to achieve a spot in next seasons’ competition. Sad isn’t it? When small things like this cheer you up but that’s just been the nature of this season.

So as our final league game of the season approaches I can think of one more thing that would see the season end on a marginally positive note for me and that would be to see a few more of the youngsters given a run out.

Again on Tuesday night we saw all too little of this, as Raheem Sterling was afforded barely 10 minutes, despite the game having been wrapped up by half-time. It was a pretty special goal by Shelvey and it was only after having been given a decent run in the team at times this year that he had the confidence and composure to put that chance away because let’s be clear, that was a tough chance and most players would’ve happily snatched at it, with that being by far the easier option.

From what we’ve seen of Jonjo (he’s still got a stupid name, though) this season – the rare glimpses we’ve had – I think that, while Henderson was supposedly signed as the long-term replacement for Gerrard, if anybody is capable of stepping into his shoes, then it’s Shelvey, so it shows that our youth policy (in both the academy and signings) is working.

I’ve beaten this drum many times in the past but I’m hoping that just this once, a Liverpool manager will listen to me. So, while I’m happy for the likes of Reina, Enrique, Suarez and Carroll to start on Sunday, it would be a nice finish to see the likes of Suso, Sterling and Coady at least given a chance from the bench, with youngsters closer to the first team given a start, such as Coates, Shelvey, Kelly and Flanagan.

Because while the first-team squad may be looking a little bit short of quality at the moment, we’ve been told for a long time that we have some pretty special young players on our books but have yet to see them. So come on Kenny, let us see how much promise there is in our academy and that all the hard work in the background is bringing dividends!

Jonjo went to blackpool on loan and immediately scored goals and won player of the month . He is the player dalglish should have gambled on , not Henderson.I hope with Lucas back Henderson is tested in the reserves next year ! Woul like to see sterling start tomorrow, he looks pacey and unpredictable.
