Thoughts On Transfer Speculation

WE are on the cusp of another window and again our team are being linked with all sorts of names; some more inspiring than others.

Discerning supporters have long since come to the resolve that Aquilani has no interest in playing for Liverpool, which is a shame since there can be a desperate lack of creativity in the Liverpool midfield, as evidenced time after time this season, most memorably in the FA Cup final, first half especially.

Midfield stopgaps such as the touted Krasic will only exacerbate current problems and if he’s not good enough for Juventus then he’s not good enough for Liverpool (I have to admit however that I said the same about Maxi a couple of seasons ago).

Rasmus Elm seems a decent prospect, scoring 13 times for Alkmaar this campaign and has been praised by former Swedish national team coach Lars Lagerbäck as the country’s best prospect since Ibrahimovic. Talk of the likes of Elm filling the Alonso void though is all but redundant, Liverpool’s midfield needs to move in a natural progression, rather than trying to recreate players in the moulds of Alonso and Mascherano. In saying that, Elm, on face value, would seem to compliment a player like Lucas in central midfield.

It would seem a striker is on the agenda with the likes of Bojan being linked as well as high profile Bilbao striker Llorente (both tenuously.) Barcelona’s Villa, Keita and Tello are also purportedly being monitored but with such a limp league campaign quality signings like these may be wishful thinking, we needed this crop to rise to the occasion in order to attract the bigger names and strengthen- which leads us to the question; what of Dalglish?

With FSG’s forward thinking and clinical approach one can foresee Dalglsih returning to the background maybe sooner rather than later, back to an ambassadorial role. It would be surprising to see him being trusted with a kitty as big as last year’s ever again and it is tantalising to think of what Rafa would have done with the funds, having actively sought Silva, Villa and Alves among others during his tenure.

While some fans would like to see Benitez return we must remember that the reason for the clubs failures in the past three seasons arguably hinged on his decision to move for Gareth Barry at the expense of Alonso four summers ago, which lead to Alonso joining the current Galacticos and the team becoming increasingly disjointed and our best players disillusioned.

Within the PL, It would be great if LFC could go for Adebayor, Dembele and Nigel De Jong. Outside the PL, Rasmus Elm, Luuk De Jong, Mathias Suarez (Anderlecht) and Gaston Ramirez would be interesting and realistic.

What is clear is LFC need to strengthen their defensive midfield (relying on Lucas only has proven costly), they need to bring in creative players like Dembele because all teams can guess how LFC plays in the last 3rd and no one should expect Suarez to create and score at the same time. In front of goal, LFC need a clinical finisher (Adebayor or Luuk De Jong can do the job).

Let’s be honest with our limp premier league performance we’ll be lucky to bring any of these.
Our transfer kitty is likely to be small. £53.4m net spend since FSG took over according to club accounts. Let’s not roll 15-20 out when real ones are available. http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2012/05/lfc-grossnet-transfer-spending-2010-12_04.html
Only asset of worth in squad is Suarez and do we want to sell him ? Our name whilst big in UK isn’t carrying any weight with Champions League hungry foreigners and Kenny as a manager isn’t attractive.
Elm has already stated that he will wait until after Euro’s in obvious hope of Champ’s League whilst we look at Diame from Wigan. Enough said..

  • DALGLISH have to strengthen Liverpool midfield with players of more than average height not from team that’s below of Liverpool it’s better from elsewhere concentrate a bit more for the midfield defence and offense that’s better

Is this writer gone out of his mind? during Rafa’s regime we were in Champions League so could dream of biggest talents which is not the case now. A.Young & P.Jones snubbed us for not being in the CL. Kenny ha s to bear the criticism because of the damages Rafa has done . Remember we didn’t qualify for the CL thrice under Rafa & we also lost the title in 2008-09 bcoz he didn’t sign any strikers(apart from the forgettable Robbie Keane)
