Popular Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt has called time on his career at Liverpool FC by agreeing to join Turkish club Fenerbahce on a 3-year deal.
Kuyt, who is currently away with the Dutch national team preparing for Euro 2012, arrived at Anfield from Feyenoord back in 2006 and became a fans favourite due to his intense workrate and dedication to the Reds cause. He took part in the European Cup final defeat to AC Milan in 2007 and had to wait until this season to win his first piece of silverware with the Reds – scoring in the final on the way to winning the Carling Cup.
Overall Kuyt made 285 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 71 goals.
Virtually an ever present during his Reds career up until last season which saw him lose his place as an automatic first choice, with a year left on his current contract, Kuyt sought to move on in hope of finding guaranteed first team football.
The deal is expected to be completed over the next couple of days with the fee in excess of £1 million.
An official club statement read:
’Everyone at Liverpool Football Club would like to wish Dirk all the very best for the future and thank him for his contribution to the club.’
