A New Horizon

SO, our long and eventful wait is finally over.

As Swansea City’s exciting young manager Brendan Rodgers was being unveiled as King Kenny’s successor, there is a genuine sense of hope and positivity coming out of Anfield about our new man in charge.

Regardless of your views on the decision to remove Kenny Dalglish from the Liverpool managers position, the events of the last week or so have brought with them a huge burning desire from all reds fans to focus on the future and much less on the past. The king has gone now and that isn’t going to change. Kenny has a rare and special place in the history of Liverpool Football Club and that will remain that way for as long as the football club exists.

Kenny himself has always been a huge ambassador of the club being bigger than one man and that philosophy should now be adopted by all of us to ensure that the owners and Brendan Rogers get the full unconditional backing that is needed to move the whole club forward as one.

It’s easy to forget that it is less than 2 years ago that John W Henry and FSG rescued the club from possible extinction at the 11th hour. The complete wiping out of the clubs debt and substantial investment in the playing staff has put the club on an extremely stable financial footing. Our owners are clearly around for the long term and it seems only fair that they should be given a chance to implement their vision and strategy.

The hunt for a new manager proved to be an extremely difficult process and had been portrayed by the media as nothing short of shambolic. That said there had been very little said by the club about timescales and potential candidates. The club have gone about the search as privately as possible and in my opinion exactly as it should be done.

There has never been anything published by Liverpool Football Club to substantiate the so called short list of 12 candidates. If it wasn’t for Dave Whelan’s relentless and mindless determination to discredit the process that our owners were going through then the media circus around the club would have been far less hectic.

Of course in a perfect world we would have acted swiftly to appoint a replacement, but you only have to look over to Stamford Bridge and Villa Park to realise that things just aren’t that simple. Chelsea have a manager who has just won the FA Cup and Champions League who has yet to be confirmed as Andre Villas-Boas permanent successor and yet still the media obsession is with Liverpool.

I myself am satisfied with the fact that our new owners have a long term plan and were not being rushed into making a knee jerk decision just to satisfy the British press. As far as I’m concerned the club get a lot of credit for the private way they have gone about their business, after all this is the Liverpool way!

FSG have got a man who is more than capable of and turning Liverpool Football Club back into genuine champion’s league contenders. The new owners will no doubt move swiftly to provide Brendan Rogers with the funds needed to strengthen the playing staff but more importantly the time and support needed to allow the project to succeed.

The message is clear, it’s time for us to stop living in the past and start focusing on the future. Let’s do what we do best, what this famous football club has been built on since Bill Shankly put Liverpool FC on the footballing map: back the owner’s, back Brendan Rogers and back the club.

It’s in our DNA……..YNWA!

I like the fact that Rodgers rightly stated he wants the Title!, if you aim just for 4th you will never win the title!.

A major part of your statement of not living in the past but concentrating on the future should be firmly re-echoed in the call to move to a new home!
Anfield IS the past and too too small for the future needs even with an “extension”. The future lies across the park.
