This Signing Could Mark The Beginning of The End For Shelvey

IF in fact Gylfi Sigurdsson follows Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool, Jonjo Shelvey’s role in the team will require careful decision-making by both club and player.

Sigurdsson was to be a record signing for Swansea City before Rodgers left, and there was plenty of reason for him to be. From what I’ve seen of him, he certainly has potential to exploit. His spot kicks are excellent, his attacking ability and habit to produce as well as sustain activity in the offensive third are aspects that have fallen shy at Liverpool. If he were to form a strong bond with Steven Gerrard, it would certainly only generate more offensive prowess and perhaps allow Steven to play wider and utilize his delivery more.

While no signing comes without examination of the talent at hand, it is a transfer which would have many eyes solely on Jonjo Shelvey. In all honesty, Shelvey’s skill often causes me to forget that he is merely 20-years old. The loan spell was a great influence on the lad. In my eyes, his confidence has increased, and his execution has begun to match the excellent vision he contains.

Again, he is only 20-years old. He is I feel exhibiting progress and undoubtedly developing – as his remarkably composed screamer in the Chelsea game would suggest. The focus for me thus becomes the rate at which he is doing so, and if LFC can afford to wait. I do not want to get rid of him, but I also believe signing Sigurdsson would be of value. He is also young at only 22 years of age, and could really find his form at the club under a manager with whom he is familiar backed by standards that only exert the best if indeed the player is a match.

With that, I don’t feel it would be regressive to loan Shelvey out once more. I know his dedication and heart is with Liverpool, as he has stated his admiration for Gerrard, but one must be objective in order to succeed. Also, so long as it is a loan and not a transfer, I am sure he realizes it would not only be in his best interest but in the club’s that he holds in his heart as well.

I would also understand if Shelvey was kept rather than loaned. He has earned the stay and should only improve. If we sign Sigurdsson, I would like to believe that the competition would breed greatness as standards are constantly raised to earn a spot on the starting line up. The best athletes are those with self-motivation and a sincere desire to work to their full ability with the hopes of success, a trait I believe to see with delight in Shelvey.

While the rumour activity has seemingly settled with Gylfi – at least what the public knows – such could be a calm before the storm, and I for one am currently open to change.

I wouldn’t want to lose Shelvey no matter who would come.
I’d rather send Gerrard away, and I mean it.

Shelvey is the next Stevie G, he has an awesome engine and looks as good as Gerrard did when he started out, shelvey is still young, keep him and he will be the next Mr Liverpool and England Captain.

  • They are changing and using players as a spare part till ***

Yes we can get rid of Adam and Spearing and use that money to buy J Clasie , he seems to be an excellent player in the making and would not cost a fortune .

If we consider, as mentioned by others, Gerrard will not be playing every game, then we have space for the younger players. We are also in another competition next season (europa) and that is again added pressure, so there is room for the youngsters.

Although Spearing plays from the heart, he is a squad/support player. Adam did not shine and is slow, might be worth considering offers, if he stays he will again only be a squad/support player.

I’m not concerned with the idea of having Shelvey, Henderson and Sigurdsson in the side, what a future we have.

We have to consider Cole & Aquilani may be off loaded, Kuyt has gone and at best Maxi is only around for another season, we have places for the youngsters and some new additions, our future is in front of our eyes, and is looking good…

if they actually gave Shelvey a chance like that of Hendo n Adam he would prove himself to be a better player then both. If you ask me Brendon Rodgers system is more suited to Shelvey and could play in it straight away if we had a game today. Hendo n Adam would need to change they’re style and need to adjust, (Adam more then Hendo)

I would like to see Shelvey be given a propper chance in the team.
