JOURNALISTS in Uruguay and Italy are reporting that Liverpool Football Club are closing in on the signing of Gaston Ramirez from Bologna.

The Reds have so far been quiet in the transfer market this summer, after a deal for Gylfi Sigurdssson fell through last week, but it is now believed that Brendan Rodgers will make Ramirez his first new signing since taking the Anfield hotseat.

Ramirez signed for Bologna from Uruguayan side Penarol in August 2010 and quickly became part of the first team. The skilful attacking midfielder has netted fifteen times in fifty-nine appearances in Italy and, at just 21, has already made double figures in terms of full international caps.

Reports coming from the Gazzetta dello Sport and CNN Italia, in Italy, over the past week had indicated that a bid of €20m, around £15.5m, had been made by Liverpool in the hope of securing the attacking midfielder’s services. New information suggests that last week’s contact was just an enquiry but that a similar bid is almost certain to be made in the coming days.

Over the past 24 hours Uruguayan football journalist Rodrigo Romano has confirmed that an offer is imminent and, with Romano’s colleague Pablo Londinsky confirming that Ramirez’s agent flew in to Montevideo from Italy within the last 48 hours, suggestions are a deal could be wrapped up by early next week.

Londinsky tweeted:

“Deal may be closed this weekend. His agent returned from Italy yesterday, so next hours are very important for the deal.”

The Italian journalist who initially broke the story has tweeted:

“likely next Wed, ?#lfc? should come with first official bid. If (it) will be close to the €20m, then talks will turn into negotiations”

The news coming out of Uruguay and Italy has been backed up by reliable sources close to the club, however, these sources are keen to stress that while the deal is definitely “on”, it is not yet “done”.

Ramirez, who is also the subject of interest from a Bundesliga club, believed to be Wolfsburg, is currently training with Luis Suarez and Sebastien Coates in Montevideo, in preparation for the London Olympics and it is thought that their influence could be pivotal in sealing his signature. Ramirez would arrive at Anfield with his compatriots after the Games, should the deal go through.

Londinsky added: “Don´t forget he is now training with Coates and Suarez… Very important to meditate a decision.”

Do it. Do it. More Uruguayans the better. Come on Gaston you’ll be a great Red!

We’ve been linked with a move for Ramirez for a while now. There must be a lot of bored sports reporters out there plucking random names out of the air and linking them to LFC in the same way they pluck bogies from their noses. Whether this story is real or not we’ll find out when the transfer window closes. Be nice if it was though.

Get cavani too and a good winger someone like navas and we back in the top 4

  • axis says:

U know I don’t care who we get but I’m sure speaking on behalf of most fans we just want someone new to come in to improve the squad and make a better attempt at fourth than we did last season

Good deal for now and the future.

  • Moruf says:

Ramirez, Aquilani and Jovetic are perfect players for liverpool. Secondly. Rodger should not forget to sell Andy carrol and bring in two good wingers.

  • Prole79 says:

It sounds like most people have never seen him play and are simply going by the fact that he’s from Uruguay, and that his name sounds good.

  • Elias says:

Liverpool are not serious in this transfer ramirez will be stilld from our noses again

  • ojopo says:

it is good but not yet confirm,

    Hopefully this story is true.
He’s a quality player and would be a fantastic addition to the team. He creates and scores goals. Im hopeful that Downing will prove his worth also, so that would be like a new signing too lol
In addition if we can get Sturridge aswell then we would be in far greater position than last yr…
With Lucas back from injury who knows Gerrard may even get an advanced role, as he did under Rafa!

All it takes is those 2 signings, Downing and Carrol to perform and we will have a juicy looking side…..

Let’s just hope the manager can perform!

    Gk: Reina
Defence: Johnson -skrtle – Agger – Enrique
Midfield: downing – Lucas – Gerrard – remirez
    Attack: Suarez – Carrol

Bench: Sturridge, Henderson, Aqua, Adams, Cole, Maxi, Stirling, Carra, Kelly.

That’s a decent squad whoever we start with!

You ARE joking of course !

      • Lfc4lifer says:

Lol it’s was just a quick list!!
Also only based on the 2 signing only.

I can’t see much activity in the transfer market… In fact rather than Sturridge it will probably Dempsey :/

You’ll see there won’t be more than 2 signings ://

    • Prole79 says:

I see a problem with your squad straight away!! What if Reina gets injured?

Sorry mate I forgot Doni in there!

        • Andrew says:

Good job you’re not the LFC oracle, you’ve included 2 players that aren’t LFC players and one certainly won’t be this summer and the other Sturridge is unlikely to be, and the guy you mention as an alternative to him Dempsey isn’t coming either. Yet again another fan think they know best, well I have one question for you, have you, or are you managing Liverpool FC? No, so how the hell do you know what’s happening?

  • LFC Fan Asia says:

    Gk. Reina
    Defence. Johnson, Sktel, Agger, Enrique

    Strike. Sturridge

Ramirez plus Lucas along side Steven Gerard, den lfc is a dangerous team 2 meddle wit!

  • CL says:

the latest news from liverpool daily post is liverpool has not approached for ramirez. what is actually crazy about this is ramirez is the one of the better names we are linked to, and yet none of them is true. but we get getting news of clubs prying our best while we are not getting any good replacements, and we are looking at getting stuck with the british deadwood and linked to names like moses?! do we even have a functioning scouts dept? is there any one still working in the club?

    • chambers says:

Remember . FSG have got Rodgers in so as NOT to spend large amounts of money and cut the wage bill substantially. Total spends ( if any ) will be about £8Mil.

      • Andrew says:

I think you’re talking nonsense, you have no clue who we’ll buy, neither do I but my bet is our net spent will be around £20 million so come September 1st at least one of us will look stupid

  • terry hughes says:
