LIVERPOOL’S first pre-season friendly against Toronto gave us the opportunity to see Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers for the first time. The match also provided us with the chance to see a plethora of the youngsters that are on the books of Liverpool FC. While most people were excited to see the likes of Suso and Raheem Sterling, young Adam Morgan took the headlines by netting his first Liverpool goal in a 1-1 draw.

Morgan, who is just 18, grew up in the Halewood area of Liverpool and therefore is a born and bred Scouser. It will have pleased every Liverpool fan to see him score his first goal for the Reds and his celebration proved his passion and enthusiasm for the club – as well as his love for Carra!

The striker has played at youth level for England and, for those that don’t follow the youth team and reserves; he is prolific at all levels leading up to the first team. In 2010-2011, he fired 21 goals in a season that seen Liverpool’s U18 team finish runners up in their respective league. Morgan spent the last campaign representing the reserves and his season concluded with an appearance at the U17 World Cup.

Having attended the same secondary school and played for the same Sunday League club as Adam Morgan, I have known about the lad since he was just 7 years of age and was always confident he was destined for big things. His natural goalscoring ability as well as his tenacious attitude and committed personality will stand him in good stead when he finally gets his chance to play for the first team. The youngster is already being compared to our very own Robbie Fowler and I suppose it doesn’t help the comparisons by mentioning they are not only both Scousers who came through the ranks but also both left-footed. I am confident that if Morgan is half the player that ‘God’ was then he will be endeared and worshipped by Liverpool fans for years to come.

Brendan Rodgers has spoken of his desire to give every opportunity for the younger players to impress and prove they are capable of performing for the first team, however, at the tender age of 18, Morgan may need to gain a bit more experience before he is deemed ready to be thrown into the battle of the Premier League. Nevertheless, if Morgan continues to put the ball in the back of the net when given the chance then he will force the hand of Rodgers and provide himself with a superb opportunity to make his competitive debut for Liverpool. Despite fans continual excitement towards Suso and Sterling, the success story of a fellow Scouser would always have that extra bit of magic should Morgan become a first-team regular in the coming years.

Great talent but some way to go! It could be 18-24 months before he makes his first team breakthrough.

He looks like he knows how to score goals but it’s way to soon to ask that question. Not least of all because it’s putting massive pressure on him. I mean, he scored on Saturday night but it’s one goal in a friendly game. As always, whether with youngsters or expensive veterans, we should temper our excitement and just let him develop .

calm down , calm down . We have been here before , haven’t we ? How many kids have been talked about as future heroes only to end up in tranmere’s reserves or somewhere like that ? Mellor , Le Tallec , Darby ,Partridge ,Potter , Raven ,Plessis , El Zhar to name a few . Morgan has talent but so they all have otherwise they wouldn’t be at liverpool . Let them develop without going on about them .
