Time For Suarez To ‘Move On’

LUIS Suarez is one of the best footballers ever to pull on the famous red shirt and is a player be-fitting of the iconic number 7.

“El Pistolero” has had a stunning 18 months on the field for Liverpool and has become one of the world’s most feared strikers.

His guile, trickery and tendency to produce the outrageous have already elevated him to cult hero status at Anfield and also given the former Ajax man the platform to go on to become a genuine Liverpool legend and one of the world’s greatest ever footballers.

The superlatives come easily when describing Suarez, and the Kop’s “I just can’t get enough” adaptation for King Luis tells you everything you need to know about Liverpool’s number 7.

So with all the positivity and praise that follows Suarez’s footballing ability it seems strange to be questioning his immediate future at Anfield and indeed the Premier League.

Whatever your view on the now infamous Patrice Evra affair, the reputation of Liverpool Football Club in this country and globally has been dramatically tarnished. The handshake fiasco turned an already volatile situation into a global damage limitation exercise for the football club and quite possibly had more than a hand in the dismissal of King Kenny Dalglish.

So in a week where the extremely sensitive topic needlessly reared its ugly head Liverpool’s hierarchy will once again come under the spotlight for non-football related matters.

Will Suarez’s latest actions have football fans around the globe questioning Liverpool’s lack of moral fibre if decisive action is not taken by the club? Or will the mercurial Uruguayan receive one last opportunity to move on from one of the most controversial episodes in Liverpool Football Clubs recent history?

There is no denying the scale of damage to Liverpool’s global reputation in the wake of last season’s clash with Manchester United and a reputation that has taken decades to form could now take years to rebuild.

The sheer hatred from both the media and opposition fans that was directed at the club in the latter half of the season was like nothing ever witnessed by Liverpool’s army of loyal supporters and is not something that they will be looking to witness again.
[ad_pod id=”unruly-video” align=”center”]
It has been said that one of the key reasons behind King Kenny’s dismissal was his handling of the Suarez/Evra affair. Alex Ferguson went one step further recently when he stated that Dalglish’s handling of the situation was the sole reason for his sacking.

With the re-surfacing of last season’s troubles it is almost certain that new boss Brendan Rodgers and FSG will demand an end to Suarez’s crusade against the FA, Manchester United and Evra, or choose to cut their losses with the fiery South American and sell him to the highest bidder.

The golden rule for Liverpool Football Club has always been that no one player is bigger than the club, and never has this rule been so severely tested than in the case of Luis Suarez. Any decision will have to wait for at least another 2 weeks as King Luis struts his stuff on the Olympic stage for Uruguay.

There is little doubting the fact that a Liverpool side without Luis Suarez will be severely weakened but the crucial decision of Luis’ world class footballing ability over the football club’s greater good is necessary to avoid long lasting damage to Liverpool’s stature in world football.

The likelihood will be that Rodgers will attempt to draw a line under the issue once and for all and build a side around Suarez, but with FSG keen to avoid a repeat of last season’s shortcomings and more potential harm to their huge investment, Luis will have to take on board any feedback given to him if he is to wear the iconic number 7 shirt again and repay the faith put in him by our famous club.

It’s certain to be an eventful and exciting season at Anfield and only time will tell if Suarez will be around to play a part in Brendan Rodgers red revolution. YNWA

  • I like your article, but I have to say one thing I fundamentally disagree with is it will be time for Luis to move on from this disgrace, when he is good & ready.

Shafted royally & image decimated – he is fully entitled to stress how he feels.

The kangaroo court that is the FA & Man United are disgraces & he is perfectly free to say as much.

Apart from that – top read.

    • Baz says:

Well said………. We should be ashamed of ourselves as a club if we do not support Luis 100% and to even suggest “moving him on” just to save our “tarnished reputation” is ludicrous.

The fiasco of the kangaroo court that bowed to the will of fergusson and the manc sychophants known as the media should be fought every step of the way even after Suarez is long gone from our club (which I hope won’t be for many years yet)

For us to stand up for what we believed was right in the face of such overwhelming bias and hostility from all quarters was admirable, and to abandon the player now as a means of damage limitation will be even more damaging to our reputation in the future.

So what if no one likes us? As long as we like ourselves and give the club our full support what does it matter what anyone else thinks?

As the Millwall fans sing “No one likes us….. but we don’t care”

Perhaps they are not quite the dumb Neanderthals they appear to be.

I guess you wrote this article to cause controversy once again because most fans are completely behind Luis. I don’t think the club has lost respect around the world. Only in England would somebody not respect the customs of somebody’s home country and do all they can to destroy his mental stability! Luis will have a great year after the olympics and if the media will let it die we all can move on now until the next “newsworthy story” flares up. Why don’t you try to do an article about the man u player who should have been up for discipline by the FA?

  • SuaRed says:

    Terrible!!!

Who let idiots lie you into the football discussion?

    Pathetic little Englander!!!

  • Abiodun says:

I like this artible but there isa particular bias in it. Firstly king kenny was not sack because of suarez issue.moreover suarrez never behave arrogantly he called him’evra’ a name that is not offensive in uruguay but because of manchester united adopted superiority in england the FA was totally sentimental about it and banned him uneccessarily. To me suarrez has never rude to any one and should not be treated so.

  • Anthony Finnigan says:

suarez said he would quit if kenny was sacked and why didnt alot ov people get it was fergie who grassd him to ruin liverpool and kenny and that he did but the people and owners ov LFC should be careful wot they wish 4

    Are you sure?
Since the Suarez incident we signed sponsorship deals with Warrior,Chevrolet, Garuda airways,Ramseys Suit makers,Park Inn,Konica Minolta,Stanley,Turkish Tourism and renewed or extended deals with Thomas Cook Maxxis Tyres and 3K Battery! Plenty of support in North America judging by the tour!

    • Like the counter argument……I agree with both of you….we definitely didn’t make any friends on the back of the Evra incident but the club is also still a massive hit on the global scene!

  • NJRedsFan says:

The tone of this article is even more pathetic in that it is over a week late. LFC ownership put Whiskey Nose, your real employer apparently, in his place when they decisively responded to his speculative and pathetic attempt to undermine Suarez, Rodgers, and LFC before the season even starts. I read about the comments Suarez made back in his homeland and how most Spanish/Latin media outlets put Evra under the microscope when he lowered his hand and denied Suarez the opportunity to shake it. Suarez’ mistake was not making a big scene of it then and denying the biased Manc/British press the ability to further spew Fagisuns agenda. Oops, sorry, Fergeson. LFC’s total ineptitude in handling the whole affair has been taken care of by the house cleaning by FSG. All Suarez should be worried about is making Evra his beatch the way Torres used to do to Vidic. Speaking of, question for the FA, when does Terry start his 8 game ban?

  • Jimmy says:

Its work of media to create & add fire to controversies, maybe damage has been done but not @ the scale in which the author has published.Look you can’t clap with a single hand you need your other hand too.so in my opinion Evra too is as much guilty as Suarez.Plz.don’t try to make fuss that only Suarez is guilty.Love Liverpool & Suarez too.YNWA.

  • Davina says:

The answer to your headline is quite simple,no it is not time for him to move on. He is an important player for us and as long as he performs he should remain.Suarez was dealt with unfairly by a kangaroo court. What about that saint John Terry? Have the media and football powers given him the same treatment as Suarez,no they have not. Leave Suarez alone there have been plenty of other players past and present who have been forgotten about.Does anyone remember Ferdinads drugs test?

  • Pug says:

Total disagree did utd get rid of cantona no, kk was sack for poor league form, Suarez to stay and become a kop hero for many a years,

  • Gary says:

Whole incident was blown out of proportion. The thing with England, is that there is no education on cultural studies and backgrounds, and the public education system puts out a weak secondary language curriculum. I moved to Canada at age 13 and I was shocked by the level of french that was being taught. From England all I learnt was Non, Qui and Bonjour!! There was no understanding that Suarez spoke in a different language. All they did was translate it to English, and put that down as evidence. Not to mention that there was no racial intent, and that things said on the pitch are always going to be bad for kid’s ears.

  • Nigel says:

Suarez gets found ‘guilty’ on the word of evra- terry found not guilty with clear video evidence of him swearing and calling Ferdinand. I would be as pissed off as Suarez. It’s not him who should leave. He should play left or right forward. His nutmegging antics and agile dribbling skills will create many goal scoring opportunities. We need a better midfield and Carroll has to adjust to the new system if he is to play as the central striker. Adam/downing/spearing/cole/ aqualani aren’t good enough to get us up the league. We can’t sell coke or aqualani easily because of their big contracts. Hopefully we can still get some quality attacking midfielders and forwards in…..

  • Bekim says:

When something is been done to u and u know that’s wrong cos you’ve done nothing to b accused of than I guess it’s little bit harder to move on. Especially seeing mr England (JT) get scot free. I was born in a country(Kosova) where reprisals were common. People were send to prison ( for political reasons) without having to go to court at all. Serbian police were the court the law the everything. Bit like the English FA and the English press. FA wanted Luis banned regardless and the English press wanted to kill him. Did they do that with Terry. No. All is forgotten now. So for me Suarez has every right to defend himself at every opportunity he gets. I was and will always b on his side and will always support him. FA and the press in England r bunch of F*****g arseholes. LUIS SUAREZ YNWA. VAMOS.

  • peter says:

once again we have a timetraveller here predicting things about liverpool football that not even they know anything about ….what a total idiot this guy is ,this is a forum for liverpool fans and this site has this idiot writing for them who the hell let this guy on here …time for suarez to move on its time for you to move on your a complete idiot Graham McGarty and i hope myself for your sake we dont see you here again ever !!!will someone try and write some please do something about these guys that read the sun and listen to sky sports news and all that controlled media crap!!

    • Why can’t you people read and read the whole article…..this article doesn’t say sell Suarez it asks the readers for an opinion on what the club should do if Luis fails to move on from the incident and leave it in the past…….it’s a fair question if you ask me!

      • Solo says:

        No-one’s asking you!.

      • Jimmy Areabi (Editor) says:

A sensible response, and one who can see what the discussion is actually about!

        • peter says:

correct me if im wrong here …………”time for suarez to move on” and “…Liverpool’s army of loyal supporters and is not something that they will be looking to witness again” so where is there room for discussion in these statements ??there statements made by an sitting room tv watcher that reads the sun !!idiot …but thats just my opinion !!

          • Jimmy Areabi (Editor) says:

There is plenty of room for discussion – anyone with half a brian could put forward their point of view…oh wait, you have 😉 Guess it takes a full brain to put those views across without resorting to insults eh?…

        • Peter if you went to an away game after the incident last season you would know what this guy is saying……..sounds like your the armchair fan to me…..and how many times do you people have to be told…….READ the article…Suarez move on is not about him leaving!!!! Offer a counter argument if you have to the metal or the intelligence to make one if not then criticise the content……any thick person can abuse on here but that’s not what this site is all about…..its a debate website for real Liverpool fans……use it for that or don’t use it at all!

  • david says:

Idiot with no ambition for Liverpool .Sure the club was tarnished, but in a short space of time it can be transformed or forgotatend many of the worlds best players are problematic, but we just need to manage and keep him if we want to get back to the top !

  • dizo says:

all this re just a game plane to distract suarez for the season that has not even started yet..but mind u Idiot!! u must loose bcs suarez will alwayz come better than all of the english players…no justice in English football..prove me wrong if u can….

  • I think that you are missunderstanding the title here…….the author clearly asks the question time for Suarez to move on from the incident and not from the club itself…..as good as Suarez is no real Liverpool fan can say that they are proud of what happened last season and as a club we have some work to do to undo some of the damage that was done.

I agree that if Luis is going to continue to undermine the club who are desperate to move on from this issue then action should be taken! I’m a season ticket holder and go home and away to watch the reds and I can tell you that this hatred the author mentions is true…….I’ve never seen anything like it and I have been watching us for 25 years!

  • Speaking Truth says:

    Obviously a plant for NESV.
Sell our only great player, and let some Yanks pocket the cash, he says!

    Pathetic.

And lets get these American conmen out.
The last Yanks took a fortune out of our club.
New Yanks get the club at a huge discount and refsue to fix it.
Club gets “corporate downsized” and soon to be asset stripped.
Lets get these Yanks out once and for all!

  • David says:

I dont think anyone outside of England cared that much. Nowhere else (except the USA perhaps) on this planet would it of been such a big deal. Britain has such a problem with it’s identity it has become paranoid with it’s international image…

  • Steven says:

In a comment NESV principal owner John Henry came out and said that KD sacking was all to do with the results in the league and nothing more! So YOU are taking Ferguson’s opinion over the man behind the decision!
You’re a joke! Fergies man karate kicks s spectator and welcomes him back and also a Man U cult hero!
Fergies players refused to shake hands with Arsenals Viera and he was fine with that!
So hypercritical statements and actions come to mind! Including your piece due to following their response!
My question is are you on Fergies payroll?
It seems to me the when Liverpool beat Msn U 3:1 at home and Suarez tormented ALL Man U players, Ferguson feared the beginning of the rise of Liverpool once again and began his quest to keep the Reds where they are!
I personally think they are adding fuel to the fire and also began thus whole saga!
I just hope that thus season is the true beginning of our journey to the top again with Suarez leading the front line tormenting all in his wake!
