CONTRARY to numerous reports throughout yesterday’s press, Liverpool FC are not close to signing Adam Johnson, and have distanced themselves from signing the Manchester City winger.

This morning’s Liverpool Echo has stated that whilst Brendan Rodgers hopes to strengthen his squad before the transfer window shuts, Johnson is not one of those being considered, with reports that the Reds are about to match the Premier League champions’ asking price of £10 million being wide of the mark.

A deal that Liverpool had looked to complete, albeit on loan, was for Barcelona’s exciting young winger Cristian Tello. However, the Reds have all but given up hope on landing the Spaniard as he now looks to have played his way into Tito Vilanova’s plans for the season, after originally not being handed a first team squad number ahead of the 2012/13 campaign.

It was rumoured that Tello’s preferred choice was to stay in Spain regardless, with Atletico Madrid also circling, however the starlet took advantage of the surprise start handed to him by Vilanova by assisting two goals in Barcelona’s opening day 5-1 demolition of Real Sociadad.

One winger that has been signed by Liverpool this transfer window is Oussama Assaidi, and many Reds fans cannot wait to see the Moroccan international make his debut after viewing his exuberant skills on YouTube!

However Assaidi will have to wait a little longer to make his first appearance in a red shirt as he is ineligible for tomorrow’s Europa League qualifying tie against Hearts in Scotland, after the winger appeared for Heerenveen in earlier qualifying rounds, making him cup tied.

If the Reds do qualify for the competition proper, the 24-year old will then become eligible.

No excuse – no matter how good – will suffice and be acceptable by Red Supporters unless there is ONE STRIKER AT LEAST SIGNED – Dempsey and also one from a lower league – after all what the hell are we paying all these spies for – do you want me to do the job ?

    • Bill says:

Forget Dempsey: He was never on Liverpools radar once Jol stated £10M. No offer was made and never will be, JH will not pay for overage players and using the American vernacular, period. Good job you haven’t got the job, we’d be bankrupt.

      • bob says:

yanks out . its the only way forward

      • Bill think about it mate? Kenny Dalglish had the last say, on who came in, and for what price, so dont be blinded by the facts. Kenny and Comolli bought some poor players, and thats being kind, they have left their mark on our club, and its not a very good one, now everybodys trying too screw us for there mistakes, every premeiership team see its our club going after a player, and another 5 too 10m is added on for there player. I cringe everytime i hear, about us going after a player, wondering how much will be added on, Im a life long LFC supporter for 43years and ive seen some poor players coming in, but Downing is absolutely atrocious, beyond words so why if I myself can see it, why cant brenden? he should be first out the door, followed by Joe cole, John jo Shelvey, and Jay Spearing. Where has Coates gone? because as much has i love him, but Jamie Carragher, should be honest with himself, and the club, and most of all us the supporters, and bow out gracefully, he`s just too slow and we need too move forward. I wanted Dalglish too get Adam Johnson, when he was buying Downing and Henderson if only. People who have been slagging Clint Dempsey off? think about it, how many goals did all our midfield contribute last season? Then tell me Dempseys not good enough, or too old 29goals for Fulham! come on what was wrong with our team last season? the answer is we never had a Dempsey, the stats dont lie, Dempsey, Sahin and Herrera, and a leftback then and only then, will we be challenging for a top four position, anything less and we could be even worse off than last season, Im not one too sit on the fence, i tell it has i see it, and if people dont like it its there prerogative. • FACE FACTS says:

BRENDAN RODGERS NEEDS TO READ THE ABOVE COMMENT OR ELSE HE WONT MAKE IT TO XMAS AS LFC MANAGER

    • Chris says:

Does borini not count as a striker then?

      • Oz red says:

Borini is not a 20 goal a season striker.. ( not yet anyway) to go anywhere near the top 4 we need 1 striker who will score 20 for us. To actually challenge to win the league we need 2. YNWA

  • Red John says:

We are due to fall well short of the pack we’re chasing yet again, and the main reason again is lack of depth. We need another striker, winger, attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder, left back and centre back to compete.

We tried to make do with a threadbare squad last season and came unstuck. With no decent cover for Agger, Gerrard and Lucas when they were injured, and for Carroll and Enrique when they lost form, we imploded. Massively.

More of the same this season? Cheers FSG.

    • Dan says:

why blame FSG they gave KD money, he blew it and now we are stuck. Whatever people think money does not grown on trees. Secondly with no CL who the hell do supporters think would want to come here? Lastly KD paid sooooo much for the crap players he bought everyone we want to buy is being well overpriced and blaming Rodgers who has little money to play with isn’t going to help either, he is buying within the limits set and is trying to buy as well as possible within those limits.

      • Bill says:

They gave the money to the so called expert director of football: Comolli. Don’t blame Kenny for the stupid prices that where paid. He may have asked for the players but had no input into the fees.

        • Jimmy Areabi (Editor) says:

          Spot-on Bill

        • LFC_Fan says:

Club comes first Bill. Pls. don’t try to protect KD at the expense of a French man. At lest in LFC page don’t try to sale the idea that a French Tom, Dick or Harry ‘ll come to Melwood & over rule Kenny Dalglish’s decision.

Never mate, never. It burns my inside when I think what we could have bought with those 85mn KD paid for those over hyped British garbage from his utter bias.

        • Gazza says:

And if you believe that, you’ll believe that the NASA Rover just danced the tango with Marvin the Martian! KD has already stated that he was “fully involved” with the selection and negotiation of deals. He knew what prices were being paid and knew that ultimately HE would be judged on them!

      • Jon says:

lack of Champions league is now a convinient reason for people to excuse lack of player movement or rather more pointedly, lack of the right players moving.
I could be wrong but Newcastle seem to have picked quality players over the last 2 years even without champs league as has Tottenham who have only got one season experience of champs league.
Assaidi chose Liverpool ahead of Ajax who are in the CL just as Mirallas chose Everton ahead of Arsenal whle Jelavic left Celtic who have a crack at CL every season for Everton who haven’t yet played in CL group stages. Gaston Ramirez is said to be on the verge of moving to recently promoted Southampton.
Liverpool has had a poor scouting network over the last 20 years and new Rodgers scouts are no better either. If the club identified the right players they would come irregardless of CL just like Suarez and Assaidi did.
The top 4 leagues in Spain, England, Germany and Italy which are the usual player destinations only have berths for a total of 15 teams who can qualify for the champs league and you can obviously add a couple of Russian teams and PSG to that group so it does not make sense to say good players will only move to a total of about 18 teams in Europe.
Anyway players will chose a club usually based on wages and if not at top clubs already may accept smaller clubs to use as a stepping stone.
For all Liverpool’s history, the managerial decions in the last 3 years have lessened the stature of Liverpool in Europe and England to one of a smaller club with rich history.
Cl comes in when you want to hijack Sahin from Arsenal who can offer CL that we cant but several examples I have given show football is more than just CL especially if you ask some top stars who stuck with Juve in Serie B
Rodgers seems to have continued the Liverpool trend of mangers obviuosly needing strikers and wingers but the area they spend all they transfer funds is central midfield.
for example, no matter how good Joe Allen will turn out, did Rodgers struggling for transfer funds inhering a team that could not score need to spend most of his loot on central midfield where Shelvey was emerging and the underwhelming Henderson still on our books?
In 2 seasons we have spent over £30million on Henderson and Joe Allen for the same role so why wasn’t one sacrificed to fund the other so we could spend more on say another striker given Rodgers seems not to trust Carroll.

      • johnny says:

Blame FSG because they bought KD, to buy Carrol, Hendo Adam, etc etc. THATS WHY. THEY CHOSE KD, a WRONG DECISION, so they are not blameless.

  • tony says:

Go and look at spurs for f,,k s,k.s there buying class players now a brazilian 20 mil . We are a joke we are living in fantasy land and beleive peter pan is real. we are spending nothing to other clubs everton will be the best club in liverpool again. everyone is saying how much money yanks gave people they got 50Mil for torres . They are putting s**t in the club are going foward with staduims.arsenal lost van persie song buying better players then us it a joke

  • oclement says:

BRENDAN RODGERS will not going to buy any top class player because he not a class manager he can,t handle them,he will get sack very soon,He talk a lot ,but when Team not playing well he has no plan B.

    • SG says:

      you might be right.

    • LFC_Fan says:

Exactly, he had been in full of shining words in pre-season, but when WBA showed us the real standard, Roger looked to be out of his words in interview.

Last year FSG made the mistake by appointing KD instead of AVB, they have made bigger mistake by letting him slip second time.

  • Melvin says:

Brendan Rodgers will be off from LFC by january 2013.a new manager will come in for LFC.

  • Matu says:

“One winger that has been signed by Liverpool this transfer window is Oussama Assaidi, and many Reds fans cannot wait to see the Moroccan international make his debut”

Well, I’m not one of them. His rubbish 3 minute youtube video hasn’t convinced me he’s any good, and that was supposed to be his best bits. Not looking forward to seeing his worst.

    “Chris Reply:

Does borini not count as a striker then?”

No, not after his performance against WBA.
Also, we’ve lost Kuyt and Bellamy. Leaving us with only Borini, Suarez and Carroll. Not good considering we are trying to get rid of Carroll. Even if he stays, he’ll be a bench warmer.
Borini looks like the invisible man at present and Suarez, as awesome as he is, couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo.

So yes, we need to sign another striker.

    • LFC_Fan says:

Actually what did you thought? Someone available for 3mn from a mid-table Dutch league player (making in total grand 9 appearances at the age of 24 for Mighty Morocco) ‘ll be as good as Alxis Shanches, Angel de Maria, Frank Ribery or even Hatem Ben Arfa? He reminds me of another Mediterranean Pires we off-loaded few years back for 1mn or so.

Borini is a good squad player for a top 4 aspirated team. But even somehow playing 38 X 90 min, he ‘ll not come near to score 20 goals. But, he is not a bad purchase for 10m, I guess (considering that after KD’s howlers our standard is at least twice)

  • murt says:

Why dont we take a punt on Rhodes,We have f all loot & he knows how to put away the chances,He may be a championship player but he seems more than capable & he would cost flip all ,look at the sh** we bought last season ,they all look like they came pub leagues.

  • MIKE says:

Patience is required .Liverpool has dropped from 1st to second team in the country down to 7th all in a decade due to hicks and co ,it will take a few 100 million to get back into champions league positions ,or very shrewd management skills ,Liverpool’s owners do not have a few 100 million so will have to wait and hope Rodgers is the answer, complaining and trying to get him sacked every game will just make the team suffer and set them back further ,stability and strong support is what’s needed

  • Mick says:

Deals fall through and top players aren’t banging on The Shankley Gates to get in so it’s a difficult market for LFC and FSG. They are doing everything in their power to bring fresh meat in and strengthen the squad. They aren’t tight they will spend the money when the price matches the quality of the player but we won’t be signing any world beaters until we get in the CL and challenge for the league. Until then I think Brendan Rodgers and the board are doing a good job manuevering in the market. The signings he has made could very well develope into the world beating players we need until we can realistically sign out and out finished products. Wait keep positive and I’m sure some of these players we have signed will shut a few mouths, let’s see who else we can get in before the transfer window shuts.

    • LFC_Fan says:

Did I hear similar words previously twice in last 3 years? World class players don’t come without CL football, true, but top young talents don’t come to play for a “no body” British Manager. Who is BR, or for that matter KD (as a Manager) or RH to global talents that they ‘ll come to LFC?

We missed the boat twice with AVB – see he took Sigurdsson, that Brazilian kid & surely ‘ll buy a top class (non Brit) striker with the Modric money (may be Dzeko) while under BR, we are hunting Swansea & Fulham (Aassidi was won after a battle with the Cottagers)

  • Elias says:

Lverpool’s buying of epl players and british has to stop!! Cause they are expensive and overrated . 15 million for allen was not good .henderson and others was even more worse.. Brendan should invest from abroad

  • Mike says:

Should never have got rid of Dalglish. As Clarke said, If he and Dalglish had remained they would be fighting for a top 4 spot this season. Yes we complain about the players he bought but we did get 50 Mil for Torres so what was his net spending. Not much. And with those same players he managed to win a cup and get into a cup final. With the performance against West Brom can you see us improving on that this season. I can tell you all one thing. With Kenny still in charge there is no way we would have lost 3-0.

    • LFC_Fan says:

Pls no more obsession. A bad referee spoils a game, bad players cost a season, but an incompetent Manager destroys a club for at least a decade.

Had KD been in charge, yes we won’t have lost 3-0, because after 2-0, we would have ugly football & wasted time by kicking around & had KD been around, we would have fought for relegation (Actually we were among last 3 starting from Jan ’12)

  • bob says:

not in for johnson or ramires . WHY NOT ? we need top players not third rate like assaidi

  • Dillboy says:

Not in for Johnson because for 1 he’s goner buy Dempsey and 2 theirs no way we would out bid spurs on wages if there interested as well. And thirdly look at what Rodgers has bought so far. Nothing special at all . Infect we’ve just inherited another manager that doesn’t have a clue when it comes to the transfer Market. Sorry I forgot Allen is one of the best midfielders in the world lol . Borrini Is amazing too because he helped swansea scrape through the playoffs to get promoted and played for Chelsea reserves . In fact he’s that special Chelsea let him go, Parma let hum go and Roma sold him to us without blinking an eyelid and bought in another striker immediately after. I bet that new Roma striker they bought to replace Borrini is a better player. Funny if that turns out to be the case because Roma finished 7 th last season so they dont have champions league just like us.

    • John barnes says:

Idiot, like we can attract the best players in the world. Allen and Borini will be good now and absolute quality in the future.

  • FACE FACTS says:

So much time being wasted on an injury prone bloke called Sahin – did we not learn after Aquallani ?? Buy a Championship striker – that where Aldridge – Rush etc came from – Quality Managers spot them – Idiots sign Caroll
