A Touch of Hypocrisy?

I think I was the only LFC fan who felt gutted and really disappointed after the Man City game. And not with the result or performance, but with the reaction of fans, manager and some of the players. Oh, and definitely with the media! But let’s analyse the match first.

“How Allen outpassed City” – was the name of the article on liverpoolfc.com that followed the game. Really? Man City had more possession (51.3 – 48.7), they played more passes (484 – 462) and had better accuracy of passes (84.1 – 80.5).

Oh, and Nigel de Jong had the same passing accuracy as Joe Allen and I don’t think that on the Man City web-page there was an article called “de Jong passing brilliance sees off Liverpool”. But generally, LFC’s performance was fine – but this is Anfield!

Going in and getting a draw is the least Liverpool should expect! The attack still worries me a lot with just one clear goalscoring opportunity created (the one which Borini flopped from point-blank range) and both goals came from individual brilliance of Suarez’s free-kick and Stevie G’s ball in from a corner. And I liked the work-rate showed by big Andy which led to the goal-line clearance in the final five minutes. Reina flopped in goal again making a mess in his own box from a simple ball, which led to City’s first, and the second was a shot in the foot to say the least. But mostly it was good. Heart, passion, determination were there and Brendan Rodgers had nothing more to ask from the lads.

I was really disappointed with some of Brendan Rodgers’ decisions though. Why put a half-fit player on the pitch only for him to get injured in the opening five minutes? Praising “courage” of a player who created the Tevez goal? I know that playing long is simple but “courage” that leads to conceded goals is much worse for me. Praising the performance after 3-0 loss is just nonsensical, whilst leaving Carra, Carroll and Adam out makes it absolutely scandalous for me. With all due respect to the lads, Coates’ passes and positioning was simply awful, Borini is a major flop for me and I’m more than sure that Adam or Henderson would have done much better job than Jonjo, who simply lacks class at this level.

I’ve read some things on the fans forums that left me very disappointed. “We have a manager who knows his tactics now”, “We played against City much better than the whole of last season”, “We outplayed the champions”, “You can see that team are much better this season”. I think it’s disrespectful, lacking football knowledge and disgusting. Last season Liverpool outplayed ALL the teams at Anfield and most away. The team created at least five clear goal-scoring opportunities every home game. We had five games so far, two absolutely awful ones (Gomel and Hearts away), one scandalous and disrespectful (West Brom), and two OK ones (City and Gomel at Anfield). And the only stamp Brendan Rodgers had so far on the team is playing from the back, which led to conceded goals in both Premier League matches.

I was absolutely raging with a few headlines. After WBA game: “Now Brendan Rodgers knows what a mess he has to sort out”. After Man City game: “Liverpool show signs of life”. The media who were awful to LFC through the whole of last season, have made matters even worse. I mean, who writes that stuff? Do they know anything about football?

But to finish the article, I’d like to praise Luis Suarez who has been by far the best LFC player in August, creating everything positive we had in attack. The only thing he sometimes lacks can be solved with simple advice from the genius of the game:

“If you are in the penalty area and don’t know what to do with the ball, put it in the net and we’ll discuss the options later” – Bob Paisley.

    • papa says:

I had to check I wasn’t reading that rubbish man’s website too!! I can see this guys point, which is backed with stats and facts, but I think he is a glass half empty man. just try to be a lil more positive or you will turn into Jamie Wank.. I mean Kanwar 2.0.

  • Brad says:

I disagree with almost everything you say here. Seems you didn’t even watch the game? And Borini is a flop after 2 games? Carroll scored 0 at Anfield in the league last year, what does that make him?

  • Flavour says:

BR Will not take us forward I’m afraid. I still remember Carroll against City last year…. Bet they were well happy to see him on the bench. It’s a good example of how you fail to develop raw talent … Then again Carroll may still be around after BR is gone

    • Vincent says:

Please, for the love of God, shut up. It’s been 5 competitive games, 3 of which were victories and one which was a draw with the best team in the country and the plan for the team and club is long-term. You know nothing about football and you really, really need to shut up.

“BR Will not take us forward I’m afraid.”

You can see into the future? What will be the score of today’s game. I’m gonna make a fortune with you!

      Stop. Talking. Nonsense.

      who failed to develop who???

  • CraqueBrito says:

Coates barely put a foot wrong in the match and you still criticize him. Calling for Adam and Hendo is just desperation. As is this doom and gloom depressing article two games into the season, with a new manager and almost no money for transfers compared to last year. And when the media writes something positive they’re hypocrites and when they’re negative they’re anti-LFC, that’s a very simplistic approach. I just hope you don’t go to our next game or watch it with your bad vibes.

    finally someone agrees with me..!!!
last season our problem wasn’t performance, it was scoring.

  • sami says:

i think you need to grow up a bit, i think you need to understand that this is only the 2nd competitive game for BR and manager could do nothing about those 2 goals we conceded. I think you have tired of being reading fake transfer stories and you thought about trying a different tactic to attract people on your article. Hypocrisy is MAN-U they sold Berbatov for 5 million and if we do the same with Carrol then you so called journalists will go after us. Cool it sleep well. Do Justice With Your Profession and with your self.

  • Dave says:

How can borini be a flop? He has played two games and played much better in the second half against city. Carrol couldnt score in a brothel all of last season and he’s not a flop for you? Suarez had a great free kick but didn’t play well all game and Allen had a wonderful game in midfield. Jonjo had a good game for his age and played a few nice passes, he could press better. And you didn’t mention the two headers carrol got in the last few minutes he should have buried.

  • Dan says:

Have to agree with Brad. I found myself agreeing with Jamie over the last few weeks but he is back to is old ways. This is a new start, players haven’t had time to settle into BR’s plan so in that respect I think we did very well. As for the stats, well I personally don’t look at them they can be twisted one way or the other, I look at the game and from what I saw, we outplayed them and deserved a win.

  • Gerry Moran says:

Wow, what an absolute load of rubbish. A flop after playing 2 games? Absolutely incredible. It is idiots that write articles like this that almost made me walk away from football last year. Do these people even engage their brains before writing this drivel? And the journalist have the cheek to slag players off for their lack of intelligence.

  • OoO says:

The thing with blahgging is, you get more hits by writing crap articles with sensational headlines than you do by writing legitimate, well thought out articles.

  • bob.. says:

We did not play that kind of football last season and you come today with luck of appreciation in you and come with this article. Dont you know that we are a team in progress? we lost 3-0 to WBA and we find ourselves holding the champions is aint that some improvement. Please learn how to be on your side

  • Jason says:

Have you ever watched a football match before? This is the most awful, short sighted blog I’ve read in years. Call yourself a Red?
Adam has been shown in preseason and at Hearts that he can’t cut it in the new system. No hollywood passes required. Hendo will be fine. Allen is a cracking player. Sahin is a world class option. So much misery and bitterness.
You HAVE to be a manc lol

  • Lennon says:

I think his webpage has been hacked LOL, because i don’t recall the last time i saw so much rubbish in one of his articles!
Borini flop? Shelvey lack skill? Hendo and Adam would have done better?
    Calling for Carra?????
    GIVE ME A BREAK!

    • red rackham says:

ha ha ha, honestly give him some credit to come up with such crap, all in one article too!

  • Scottypool says:

I think Shelvey is going to be a great player for us. He’s got that guile that we lack when Lucas is out. And he seems to be a good box to box runner with the ball like a younger Stevie. He can shoot with either foot and has a wallop of a shot. He’s young, but give him a few years and I believe he’ll be running the advanced midfield role.

  • aMiYaKi says:

lol.. why you so negative? and blaming BR for 2-2 result againts ManCity?
you just dont understand.. you do not deserve to write an article like this!

  • LD says:

I actually agree with most of what you have written. But looking back fans and the team were simply glad that we got a point following our thrashing at WB.
