Who Would You Sign?

LIVERPOOL FC is still one of the most prestigious football clubs to play for, even without the offer of Champions League football. The sheer history and tradition of our club and the added bonus of competing in the Europa League means making the switch to Anfield for any player a very lucrative and appealing one.

Even before the final ball was kicked in the 2011-12 campaign, plenty of names both home and abroad have been linked with a move to the Reds. Rodgers has already secured the signatures of both Fabio Borini, Joe Allen and Oussama Assaidi, and I for one hope that the signings don’t stop there.

It has been pleasing to see us linked with quality players such as Nuri Sahin of Real Madrid and young Spanish starlet Cristian Tello of Barcelona. For me I think Tello would be a great addition to the squad. He is known for his speed and he would give us the width that we often cried out for last season. As well as bringing these attributes to the table, Tello has also demonstrated that he has an eye for goal notching seven in twenty-two appearances for Barcelona last season.

One potential worry with Tello is his lack of experience. He has only just turned 21 years of age and there is always the fear that moving abroad and being thrown in at the deep end in unusual surroundings could be too much pressure and expectation for the youngster. With this in mind, if Tello was to make the move, preferably this would be on a permanent deal rather than a loan, where he would be allowed time to adapt to the Premier League and his new surroundings.

Adam Johnson is another player that Brendan Rodgers has been heavily linked with since filling the hot-seat at Anfield. Again, Johnson would provide natural width, pace and a direct style of play.

Another wide player, in the form of Theo Walcott, has been mentioned on more than one occasion in recent months. A lifelong Red, Walcott is another player that could tick all the boxes for Brendan Rodgers. His pace, trickery and direct style of play would certainly please fans. Due to being a fan himself, his motivation, determination and willingness to give 100% every time he wore the red jersey would surely never need to be questioned. At the age of 23, Walcott still has his best years ahead of him and what’s even more amazing is that the 2012-13 campaign will be his 7th season of playing top flight football. For his age, he has a vast amount of experience at the top level and this would only benefit those playing around him.

In my opinion, a new striker should also be on Brendan’s shopping list. Clint Dempsey has been linked and during his time with Fulham he has certainly proven that he has a goal or two in him. If this transfer was to happen I think Dempsey would be a squad player and a good option to bring off the bench when we are in need of a goal. Whilst on the subject of goalscorers, Jermain Defoe is a player that I feel would guarantee you that. Should he be surplus to requirements at Spurs I think this is an option that Brendan should definitely consider.

The closing stages of the transfer window can be an exciting period during the football season and I’m sure that between now and 31st August will be no different.

With the transfer window slamming shut in just over two weeks, the big question is, who would you sign?

  • Jimmy says:

    IMHO i would like Dempsey,Sahin,& Kévin Gameiro…

  • Rory says:

    Rafa Benitez

    • Erin says:

A bit too late for Rafa now. Let’s stick with BR for now and hope for the best. The man is learning on the job.

      • Rory says:

It’s never too late…until we’ll lose even the few stars we still have obviusly (next year)

    • teesomethang says:

rafa? and return to all the arrogance.no lets support br who simply needs to sell downing for 8m,cole for 5m,adam for 5m,searing for 4m and raise 22m enough to buy dempsey(8m) and then the 17m remaining can even buy us a top gun man in europe.even daren bent will do.

      • Rory says:

I really don’t know where you see arrogance in Benitez really dude, and even if he’s a little bit to much sure of himself, it’s surely better him who have experience and knowledge then unexperienced and uhknowledge ones, i tell you more, a little bit of “arrogance” in personal ideas is good if you’re in the position of a leader (like a manager), it’s a sigh of personality…however the story speaks for Benitez, you can say arrogance or other no sense things but facts are from his side

  • TG says:

Nothing has changed from last season, we still can’t score goals…………….end of!!! Get a striker or finish bottom half, fact!!!

  • paul says:

offer chelsea 50m + suarez and carroll for torres and get a centre forward who can score

  • Livmad says:

The problem lies in the centre. Liv to get a playmaker now, Gerrard is the problem…Get Sahin!

  • Am says:

We need more match winners who can do something special like beat an opponent and make or score a goal. I’d buy Dembele, Jovetic, Matias Suarez, Isco and Ramirez. Sell Downing, Spearing and Adam.

  • Sick to the pit!! says:

Just fold the club and put us out of our continous misery. The sudden shock will be hard, but at least we’ll be gradually recovering.

  • Dempsey would do a job for us this season, and sahin would be great, we should make use of Sterlings raw talent, and why we didin`t get Adam Johnson instead of that waist of space, Downing, what was Kenny and Comolli thinking of? Coates should be given a chance to prove himself, im sure he will be a success, if given the opportunity. Tello would have been a good option for a seasons loan, and who knows, maybe we could have twisted thier arms too sell him? But unless BR brings in a decent goal poacher, we will be back too square one next season, im affraid.

  • Callaghan says:

Dempsey, he was a late developer, so we might get 5 years out of him.

It’s really important Adam and Cole are moved on.

I actually believe Spearing is good cover late on against any opposition in games we’re winning, he’ll be on very low wages and become more useable as he builds experience.

I’d rather wait until January, and see how the side develops. I’m confident Allen, Borini and Oussama Assaidi will do well and hopefully Dempsey.

All those who were screaming for Agger to be kept must have heavy hearts at the moment :))))))

  • FACE FACTS says:

We should sell anyone we can and buy 2 strikers .When I say Sell anyone – I MEAN ANYONE – including Stevie G

  • FACE FACTS says:

Sell Carroll – buy Dempsey Sell Reina – buy Birminghan boy Sell Ageer OR Skirtel – buy Stoke centre back – come on start selling

  • Matu says:

I’m so glad that you can be so smug and happy concerning Agger, Callaghan, well done. Proper red there, through and through!

Never a red card and wasn’t the worst defender on the pitch – that was either Kelly and Skrtel.

Seeing as all team playing bad, maybe we should sell Agger, Skrtel, Suarez, Gerrard, Pepe, Johnson and Lucas as well, moron!

    • sas says:

It is a red card offence. How could it not be. Agger pushed him, even though its just a nudge. But at that break neck speed, its enough to fall a man. Its time we stopped with the excuses and admit defeat. I feel that our team have got no winning mentality. We lost it for quite some time already. I could see if it was man u in the same situation, one man down and two goals down, they would give their very best to do a comeback. This is not because they got more better players, No!, its because they know its not OK to lose.

  • steve says:

i’d but Clint Dempsey although day by day,i see him staying at Fulham rather than joining us.Downing can do a good job as a squad player but as a starter he’s not very good.also aint it about time that Rodgers moved Suarez on the left to showing his skills and Borini to the centre to show his finishing skills?
Let this squad be for this season:
    Reina
    Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
    Gerrard Lucas Allen
    Dempsey Borini Suarez
    YNWA

  • vakpa says:

I Want Rafa Benitez back with Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano. Since Rafa left NO ONE could match the way we played and results. With Rafa only 1 time we were 7. With the others, 6, 8 and now i hope we end at least 7.
MORE THAN 100 MILLION ON SIGNINGS AND NO ONE IS WORTHY APART FROM RAFA BENITEZ SIGNINGS. Reina Agger Skrtel Johnson Lucas *KUYT *MAXI Selvey Suso Sterling, etc.

  • RedRoy says:

Midfield is very weak, joe Allen is just a kid, never rated Lucas, Downing ‘nough said, Spearing, Henderson, not up to it, Adam what a f*@*ing joke, Stevie visibly slowing down, there’s the problem, centre midfielders please, fix it quick or it’s mid table or below. Having said that YNWA.

  • Jake says:

I would buy another left back. A big part of BR’s system is attacking full backs. Because Jose Enrique got injured last minute we had to move Johnson to left back and Kelly to right back. This unbalanced the team. We need another left back as both cover and to compete with Enrique. I would also go for Walcott but play him as the centre forward rather than a winger. He has always been poor at crossing but his finishing can be good and he has bags of pace. Play him Suerez and Borini up front. As he is a big Liverpool fan I’m sure he would love to come and has he is in his last 12 months of contract we should be able to bet him for 15 million or less. I think Dempsey would be good but only at the right price.

  • mark says:

Adam Johnson to replace Stewart Downing (Never has been or will be good enough) and Clint Dempsey.
The only problem with us getting these 2 players is that they would cost us to much money, money I believe we don’t have.
This is in my opinion why Mr Rodgers was given the job, nothing against him and I wish him well but other top candidates were more than likely told by the owners when interviewed that there was a limited transfer kitty thus deterring them from the job.
Also, although the 2 loan targets from Spain might do a good job for us when have Liverpool had to use loan players in August.
I hate to admit it as a lifelong fan but we are just a mid table team and until we can throw money at players that’s the way it is..

  • FACE FACTS says:

Brendan is the man – give him time but please stop going on about how irreplacable some of our players are to LFC – why were we saw bad if their so hot – SELL IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT BECAUSE SAHIN HAS CHOSEN ARSENAL

  • Red$4eva says:

Welliton of spartak Moscow, theo Walcott if he will risk joining us in these times, maruane chamak, Royston Drente, Clint Dempsey in fact Gaston Ramirez would be worthwhile at 15 million even if he is a greedy money grabber. Suarez could form a partnership and would be worth it. As it goes I see Suarez fatigued with all the pressure on him to score and then who do we turn to?
