After just 8 first team appearances in a Liverpool shirt, Liverpool’s outstanding young wing-wonder, Raheem Sterling, has been called up into Roy Hodgson’s England side for Tuesday night’s World Cup qualifier with Ukraine, at Wembley.
It would mark a stark change in fortunes for the 17 year old, should he feature against the Ukraine, after a season of frustration last season when, despite being promised first-team football, he was used sparingly.
Should the Liverpool youngster get any minutes against Ukraine, he would become the youngest ever England international and if he does, it would ward off any further talk of the Jamaican FA snatching the duel-nationality player from under England’s noses.
Despite the great news for Sterling himself, the move is unlikely to please Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers who last week made it clear that he doesn’t want Sterling over-exposed and fast-tracked through the England setup.
