LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers has hailed defender Daniel Agger as “one of the best centre-backs in World football” after the great Dane put pen to paper on a new long term contract with Liverpool Football Club on Friday 5th October.

Agger is the fourth member of the Reds’ first team to have penned a new deal this season, following Jonjo Shelvey, Luis Suarez and Martin Skrtel, all four have now committed their futures to the club.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com Rodgers said:

“It’s great when one of your best players commits to the vision going forward, Daniel is a terrific player and I am absolutely delighted he has committed himself. It’s a big boost for everyone connected with the club.

“He’s one of the best centre-backs in world football. His balance, his reading of the game, his defensive qualities and his ability to bring it out from the back is outstanding.

“He’s in love with the club and the supporters, and I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with him.”

There had been speculation over the summer linking Agger with a move away from Anfield, with Barcelona reported as potential suitors for the Danish international, however Rodgers maintains that Agger’s first and only priority was remaining a Liverpool player and that he never had a fight on his hands to keep him.

“Daniel made it very clear to me in my very first conversation with him when he was at the Euros with Denmark that he wanted to stay and play a part in the future here.

“There was interest of course but I never felt like I had to fight to keep Daniel here. He always made it very clear to me that he wanted to be at Liverpool. He saw this way of working as a way of developing his talents even more and demonstrating his great qualities.

“I never felt there was ever a time when he wanted to leave and he knew perfectly well from my situation that I didn’t want him to leave either.”

Results results results?? Please be realistic. Liverpool will not finish in the top 4 this season for sure. But there is no doubt that we will finish in the top 8. Yes, obviously a club like liverpool has to deliver results and be among the top 4 every year. But, hate to say , but liverpool are currently not a top 4 club. We have a good team, but we just lack some bit of extra quality to be back in the top 4. Open your big eyes and look. Liverpool have played well so far in the league, barring the second half against west brom and the arsenal match. We have played well, but the results were undeserving. We should have at least 6 more pts now. This is always going to be a revolution that will take time. Why judge after just 7 matches??? A true liverpool fan will not be questioning BR appointment as manager now but backing the team, backing the manager. Its fans like you that doesnt deserve to support this great club. To quote: If you cant support us when we lose or draw, then dont support us- Bill Shankly.
