He Deserves More Credit Than He’s Being Given

LEAGUE football; it’s a lot more than a reason to get out of the house or neglect your books, it’s probably the most important thing on any football lover’s weekly schedule. That being said, the performance of your team during the week could very well transform it from good to better, good to bad, bad to good or bad to worse. I’m very doubtful though that there are any Kopites whose weeks have gone sour after our recent displays (save the inexplicable Villa game that is).

Our performances have been masterful and the results have finally started to tell the tale of the games .The Fulham match (a performance he all but prophesized in a pre-match interview), for me, was just a culminate manifestation of what has been a steady rise in form, confidence and tactical discipline. The team has picked itself up from dependency on individuals to dependency on the unit, and though there are still some loopholes we might not get away with against tougher opposition, we do look quite solid against teams from mid-table downwards.

Some may attribute this, and rightly so only if not in entirety, to the improvement in form, play and in-game awareness of the likes of Jose Enrique, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing in the past few weeks, the latter of the three putting up a master-class performance in our emphatic victory over Fulham, but, I believe it would be highly unfair to leave out the one man all our discountenance would have been directed at if those 4 wins in 5 (all competitions I mean) had been losses or even draws: Brendan Rodgers.

He has been criticised without remorse for poor line-ups and tactics after the games we failed to win but I am yet to see an encouraging comment about him even though he has orchestrated a win in Udine to secure a Europa League knockout place and an aggressive league comeback after a poor display against Aston Villa.

He has been brave and unbiased for the most part in the selection of his starting XI. His “If you don’t perform, you don’t play” notion, to me, has been the key to the improvement in players like Hendo and Downing. Players who were sure starters under Dalglish have been made to fight for their positions in the starting XI and we can all attest to the fact that they are becoming better players for it.
[ad_pod id=”liverpool-tees” align=”center”]
He hasn’t had very much by way of squad options (some may say out of his own doing), but by reposing his confidence and faith in youngsters like Sterling, Wisdom, Shelvey and Suso he has managed to create some form of competition within the squad between youngsters who are trying to prove that they’re good enough for regular first team action and veterans who have now been pushed to justify their first team inclusion.

I have taken plenty of hits for my belief in and defence of Rodgers and his tiki-taka philosophy and remain adamant that he has a role to play in turning our fortunes around. Comparing what he has managed with a lean roster to what Mark Hughes managed with such a wealth of talent at QPR, it would be a sheer lack of appreciation not to acknowledge his contribution to this run of good form.

I said in a much earlier article this season that if Rodgers managed to make it to Christmas with the team within touching distance of the top four and earn a spot in the Europa League knockout stages (both of which he has) then we would have a lot to look forward to in the second half of the season. We may already be halfway through the league fixtures but contrary to popular belief, I think there is every reason to be optimistic (if he actually USES the transfer window this time around).

He may not be an Alex Ferguson, pulling rabbits out of hats almost every week, but he has definitely had a visible impact since arriving on Merseyside and for that I think we must give unto Rodgers what belongs to Rodgers.

we might have another leeds united situation on our hands,i love liverpool fc with all my heart
but i dont think iam the only fan who is very, very
worried about the direction our club is heading,
like a ship in the night without a sail and captain!

Not a lot wrong with the squad. The main problem is the style of play. The build-ups, like Arsenal, Spurs, Man City are too slow. Should be looking to play the final ball earlier and move accordingly. Notice the massive difference between Chelsea in pre-Benitez days and their current attacking style.
Notice also that Barcelona play their final ball from along way out of the box.

  • Wilson Matilda says:

Aye dead on mate- Benitez was the beginning of the problem. Don’t you remember how we couldn’t wait to get rid of him. His rubbish team selections and the money that he wasted. If you’re not 100% behind Rodgers and what he had already achieved in fixing benitez’s hash then go and post your garbage elsewhere

    • JOHNNY says:

Yeah right . Rodgers achievements >

      1. Our worst start in over 50 years
      2. The most boring negative sideways football in our history

  • Nizzle says:

Finally I get to see something encouraging about Rodgers. The previous articles I have been reading have made me wondered if these writers are fans or total critics, they never see anything positive. I guess we all have to hope to have a better 2nd half under Rodgers, in coming years he’ll have a fantastic achievement with the club. Good article right here. YNWA

R u guys on drugs < i wish i had some of what BrenDOM has fed you , his record at the half way mark is the same as R H when he got sacked and rightly soo , King Kenny and Clarke were soo much better and 9 points more at this stage and they were sacked by those Yanks at FSG , who set a top 4 or fired for a Liverpool legend whos name actaully got us high profile players the likes of Saurez …Camolli paid those hugh fees for the players and not KK ( Camolli was appointed by FSG ) What has BrenDOM actually done REALLY , brought in Boring 10 mill / Joe " Useless " Allen 15 Million / Assidi never got a prem league game and Sahin …With all that money Liverpool could and should have brought in 1 TOP stiker . If i asked any of you what was the 1 thing missing from KK and Clarkes team , any1 of you would have said we need a consistant striker 30 Mill could have brought us that sooo Brendom wasted our transfer money and no1 says anything ….then he get rid of top quality squad players i.e. Maxi and Bellers with out replacing them with experiance heads …Soo u say hes promoting youth ..WOW KK and Clarke did that with Kelly , spearing , Flannagan , Wisdom and in the latter games Sterling …At the end of the day we have a Car Saleman of a manager who talks alot of crap that some fans wanna hear and Yanks who , who knows what their agenda is now cuz have you heard from Hendry recently ….Last year he had a lot to say wen KK was incharge …
I BELEIVE that BrenDOM is a *manager and a Puppet for FSG and for that reason im voicing my oppionion and if that doesnot make me a true Liverpool supporter then why did you guys get rid of Roy or KK cuz both of them did MUCH better than BrenDOM

  • JOHNNY says:

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH ! he deserves the sack thats all

Did the idiot who wrote this actually say ” our performances are masterful ” ? The highest place team we have beat is Norwich City . Do these fools actually watch the games ?

  • stevieG says:

Stupid article – total fantasy and delusion . The idiot Rodgers will go down in history as our worst manager ever
His signings are disgraceful , his tactics non existent , his motivation skills poor , he has not one good quality that a manager needs

  • Dave says:

Wow , I had to read this twice cos i couldn’t believe what i wos seein . The dumbass who wrote this should be locked up . Total Total Total nonsense

  • Pal says:

Its not nonsense. It’s a well written article. Brendan will have done better if Reina and our attackers had perform better.

We dont want to replace manager every 6 month, thats just ridicilous. Support him and let him bring his own player, then we’ll decide.

    • simon says:

IF ? IF my aunt had balls she would be my uncle

If everyone performed great , we would be unbeaten – top of the league – best team in the world – if LOL . Its up to the manager to pick the players , formation and tactics to get the results . Rodgers has failed miserably

      Stupidest article EVER

  • simon says:

I think this fool has been watching the wrong team . Never have i seen such a biased totally blinkered piece of crap in my life
    – this moron compares us to QPR – WTF ?
    – he says Rodgers orchestrated a win v udinese , a mid table team who didnt care enough to play their best player !!!
    – masterful performances ??? WTF ? What masterful performance ? Or does he mean the home win v Fulham ,the worst away team in the history of the PL ?
The whole thing is pure bull

    • fotheringham says:

Is there any point in giving this ‘article’ credence by actually arguing its points ?

      Its total drivel

  • Terry says:

I dont want to insult anybody … but in all honesty its a disgusting article . Giving praise to a man who has won 6 out of 19 league games , none of the wins were against anyone good , is just being childish .

Whats next ? An article on why Joe Allen should be Footballer of the year ?

  • stan h says:

Brendon has no stikers because HE got rid of the ones we had and never replaced them when he had 3 months do do so, it’s called shooting oneself in the foot.

  • Jack D says:

This really is the dumbest thing ive read in years , the site should vet their writers instead of letting any fool write trash

  • fotheringham says:

Honestly ,is this a joke ? It must be Brenda Rodgers himself writing this , because no-one else spews bullsh*t like this except BR .

Tell the truth Brenda . It is you , isnt it ?

  • Pele says:

Whilst Rodger’s may yet turn things around, I’m glad that people are now seeing him and FSG for what they rally are.

FSG do not know what they are doing! Three managers since their tenure began says it all. They sacked the only one who could bring them silverware and denied him the chance to acquire a striker in last year’s winter transfer window – could have made all the difference.

Brendan Rodger’s is a wordsmith who has pulled the wool over people’s eyes. His transfer dealings have been poor, most are injury prone (unfortunate though that is), but when fit, he seems reticent to start them. He’s destroyed our defence with his ‘new style’ of play and has failed to address the lack of goals.

An average manager attracts average players and produces average results for an average board.

  • Gary says:

I cant believe what this IMBICILE wrote . Never b4 have i read such a biased idiotic piece
Every word is bull . EVERY WORD

    • Gary says:

In fact it is so bad . The guy who wrote this rubbish should apologise and promise never to write again . LUNACY

      • Gary says:

I just hope other teams fans dont read this . We are already a laughing stock for mancs because of Rodgers . If they read this they will think our fans are total morons too

  • murt says:

Unfortunately for us fans, Rodgers,&the leadership at the top, have sold us a pipe dream,F.S.G rescued us all right but seem happy to keep us a mid table team until they rid themselves of K.D s rubbish.the concept of being sucessful with a mixture of youth, experience& some very dodgy purchases have come back to haunt us,& now we are to trust him again in this jan. window. The new scouting set up needs to hit the ground running.I have supported B.R & thought looking at Swansea last season,we.d be in good hands but i think the job & expectations are too big for him ,i will leave all judgement till the seasons over, this article does not make any sense & does not stand up to scrutiny in light of recent results.

  • wesker says:

I thought ive seen it all on here , but this takes the biscuit
    WHAT A PILE OF BULL
The writer was obviously soooo drunk he forgot he was talking about Liverpool
Rodgers IS the worst manager in our history , and things will continue to be totally sh*t til he fracks off

  • bob says:

that is an embarrassment , really an embarrassing article . if the writer actually believes what he is imagining he needs a shrink . if not then he should stop writing blatant lies .

    embarrassing

  • Tommo says:

Unbelievable !!! I just read what i thought was the stupidest piece ever and now i have seen worse

Who writes this rubbish ? Is it the same guy that writes all the ridiculous ones , cos i find it hard to believe there are more than 1 person out theree as stupid as this one
