DESPITE his recent success breaking into the spotlight for both Liverpool FC and England, 18 year old Jamaican-born Raheem Sterling is not immune from criticism from his mum.
Sterling’s recent successes have been marred by his recently adjourned court case in which it is claimed he allegedly assaulted a woman.
This stumbling block seems to have prompted Sterling’s mum to move closer to her son in order to ensure he does not get into any more trouble.
”My mum has moved up from London.” Sterling has revealed to Liverpool’s official website.
”I get told off all the time. She tells me off for being lazy, for not helping around the house – but I’m becoming better at that. She wants me to brush the stairs and help out in the kitchen – it’s hard work. She gives me stick but I do my bit. I cleaned the living room a couple of days ago.”
Sterling then moved on to how his mother’s close eye is helping him to develop into a better player.
“I’ve had to do quite a bit of growing up, to keep my head down. I can’t do the things I did, going to different places. I am monitoring my time better and making sure I get loads of rest.”
It doesn’t end there for Sterling, as his mum also watches his work rate and will ensure he knows if she thinks he’s not working hard enough on the pitch.
“She talks to me about the games and training, making sure that everything is going smoothly, if I score or make an assist she’ll tell me that I need to keep doing it.”
Now that Sterling has signed a new 5 year deal with Liverpool, the fans will be hoping that the young winger will follow his mother’s guidelines and make himself the very best can be.

A player with full potential. Just needs correct guidance to reach the level of C. Ronaldo !!!
Sterling has been managed badly by Rodgers .too much pressure and redponsibility heaped on one so young . Probably the cause of his dip in form
Both very true comments. However I agree with you Mich about how much pressure is being put on Sterling, no doubt he’ll materialise into a great player but he needs the time to perfect his skills instead of being thrown into the deep end.
