With Rodgers, signings & summer, where are we headed?

Reds striker SturridgeWITH Daniel Sturridge missing from the Liverpool FC line-up the last two matches the lack of finishing became painfully obvious. After two encouraging matches against Arsenal and Manchester City it seems as though Liverpool have taken two steps back in their last two matches.

Fixtures against West Bromwich Albion and Zenit St. Petersburg did nothing to encourage supporters of Liverpool.

Two scoreless encounters in which the Reds found themselves losing both by the same scoreline, 2-0. Both of these matches had more than just the scoreline in common: no Daniel Sturridge.

A side with the aspirations like Liverpool cannot rely on one or two players to score their goals. They cannot constantly be allowing soft goals coming off of mistakes or mental errors.

The need for more creative attacking options and clinical finishing has become strikingly obvious over the course of this season as has the demand for a stronger defence. This offseason is going to have to be a busy one.

Plenty of attractive options have been linked with Liverpool such as Christian Eriksen, Ashley Williams, Hartem Ben Arfa, and Tom Ince among others. With the plethora of names being linked to the Merseyside club it should be obvious to fans that this current squad is simply not good enough.

It wasn’t good enough for the League Cup, it wasn’t good enough for the FA Cup, it seems like it isn’t good enough for the Europa League, and in my opinion it is not good enough for fourth place in the Premier League.

I personally do not believe this is the fault of Brendan Rodgers. He can only do so much with the players that are handed him and he can only spend the money that FSG allow. He had the team improving until the aforementioned recent matches but I feel that he deserves a chance to prove himself with the appropriate players.

Perhaps it is because I am more cynical than others but I am anxiously waiting the summer so I can see what kind of intent the owners and management of Liverpool have. I look forward to them signing several top players that will bring drastic improvements to Anfield.

Of course I expect this current team to keep fighting until the end but I remain realistic about their aspirations. I hope they prove me wrong but only time will time.

The Championship that’s where! if you hire a Championship level manager, a Championship level assistant manager, a Championship level first team coach, that is exactly what you will become, aswell as bankrupt with millions and millions wasted on dross, Sturridge aside.

Until Rodgers is removed there is an endless road of misery on the horizon.

Rodgers will get Liverpool there definitely a better manager than Dalglish who should be coaching u/11s 35 mill for Carroll anyone?
A season or 2 is what it will take to be back in the top 4 be patient.

      • David Tobin says:

Rodgers spent 15m on Joe Allen !!!! 11m on Borini !!!

Rodgers IS the worst manager in the history of LFC and will only make things worse

        Stop dreaming

Don’t be silly . Dalglish has won leagues with different clubs .many cups. Signed great players and got us to two cup finals last year. Rodgers has achieved nothing .signed mostly rubbish players and made us a joke this season. Think back one year . We were in winning at Wembley. Still in fa cup .sixth in league. Look at the season today.no cups. No nothing. Mid table misery

  • kirbyking says:

Rodgers has spent MORE money NET than Kenny spent , his summer signings were ALL disgraceful wastes of money , and so far he has given us our worst season in 60 years !!!

Tactically useless , Loyal to his totally useless pet Allen , At fault for all 3 cup exits for fielding weakened teams , puts blame on the players rather than taking responsibility himself , always making excuses ,TOTALLY INEPT ( in every department ) , and hasnt got a win against 1 decent team !!!

He surely will be sacked in the summer , and its good riddance to bad rubbish , just a pity they didnt fire him 4 months ago

  • Jack says:

With Rodgers ? ?? We are going nowhere .

He has got to go . He should resign b4 he gets sacked

  • Brad says:

Note:The definition of keyboard warrior fans has the two comment above mine as an example. Get off your horse you little idiots. Rodgers is a good manager and he is staying at Liverpool for a long time.. May as well get with the program you little crying babies.

    • bellers says:

Wow , these forums really do attract the dimmest idiots . Brad thinks Rodgers is a good manager LOL .What a unintelligent fool . I suppose this moron must have thought Hodgson was a GREAT liverpool manager , seeing as how Hodgson had a better record

Well Brad , dont cry too much in the summer , when Rodgers finally gets the sack he deserves

    • David Tobin says:

If u want Rodgers to stay , then there is no way ur a LFC fan . How could any fan want the guy who has given us our worst season in living memory and wasted our money on crap ?
Brad go away u manc fan

    • woody says:

Anyone thinkin rogers is good manager needs a lobotomy. Hmmm these armchair fans are so stupid. Kop on lad

  • Vince says:

we are headed nowhere with rodgers in charge , any big club would have sacked him ages ago . rodgers has brought us lower than i ever thought possible .
the whole country is laughing at us and it breaks my heart , we need to sack rodgers and get our pride back

  • liverdave says:

    RODGERS OUT !!!!!!!

  • bjowolabi says:

Some lfc fans don’t speak d truth. Dalglish is d cause of our problem wen he startd keepin kuyt n maxi in d bench for downin n henderson dat were useless last season. Dalglish appointment was a very big mistake n good dat fsg was quick to see it n sack d old school fat head. We need another quality right back n a goalkeeper cos johnson n reina are too prone to mistakes dats causing us three points. Johnson has been very poor for d most of dis season. Wen he crosses d ball, be sure dat d ball will land outside d pitch d guy is just very poor defensively n attackin.

  • Gabriel Darshan says:

Firstly, I wouldn’t class Ashley Williams as an “attractive option”.
Secondly, while I agree that our squad needs improvement, in my opinion it is a much better squad than both West Brom and Swansea. Much better. With Newcastle struggling this season, if we don’t manage 6th or at least get European qualification (Swansea will probably win Carling Cup) then the manager is at fault for that.

  • Jonas says:

Rogers is at fault for everything . With our players we should be at least up alongside everton fighting for 4th & rodgers surrender in the 3 cups is unforgivable

In my life i have never seen a manager more worthy of the sack than Rogers . I cannot understand why he is still there . We CANNOT let him waste more of our money in summer and saddle us with more average players

‘Ashley Williams’ ? Even thinking about bringing a players like that to LFC should merit the sack

Time is ticking . Longer Rogers stays , the further we will be from top clubs

  • CMW says:

KD had less of a squad, and a fresher squad. His captain out for half a season, his top scorer out for 10 straight games, a woodwork strike rate that will never be matched. And yet, he did better by this point, despite being in both domestic cups. Rodgers has more to work with and is failing miserably. And there are his faults too. He is a young manager that needs to make mistakes to learn. Problem is it will all happen at Liverpool if he stays. A young player you can drop, or loan out. A young manageress still the face of the club. The decision to hire him was premature. He has potential, but like with every top manager in the world, he needed that club to make all the mistake sat so he would learn. Like I said, Liverpool is that club. Which is painful, because by the time he does figure it out, he’d have lost Gerrard and Suarez.

    • Thomas says:

It was an experiment that simply hasnt worked . We can save face and keep our star players by acting NOW and hiring a top class manager

There will be plenty available in the summer
Mourinho , Rafa , and Hiddink to name just 3

  • bob says:

rodgers has dramatically made us worse than last season , and is liverpool fcs worst manager since shanks built us up .
