Liverpool preparing move for Eriksen

REPORTS all over the press today are reporting that Liverpool FC’s interest in Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen is very real, with the Dutch club’s technical director, Marc Overmars, appearing to confirm as much.

The 21 year old Dane is set to be one of this summer’s hottest transfer properties when his contract will have just a year left to run, leaving the door open for a whole host of long-time admirers to make a bid.

Liverpool’s reputed interest in the player has been widely rumoured for the past 18 months, but have now been confirmed by Overmars:

“We have the list of the scouts of foreign clubs who have been here recently and Liverpool has been a regular visitor,” he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

The Mirror are also reporting that the Reds have now stepped up this interest by monitoring the player whilst on recent international duty – with international team-mate Daniel Agger also set to play a role in a potential move to Anfield.

It is thought the Reds will look to their Dane, Agger, who is Eriksen’s captain at international level, to help convince the 21 year old his future lies on Merseyside. Not only that, but Liverpool will hope that the Ajax link with Luis Suarez, who played alongside Eriksen when he broke through to the first team in 2010, could also give them an advantage over other potential suitors.

Brendan Rodgers wants to add creativity to the central midfield area and Eriksen provides this in abundance. As well as having the relevant attributes to the way the Liverpool manager wants his team to play, Eriksen also fits the FSG model of being young, and with just a year left to run on his contract and any potential transfer fee reduced, investment in the player would be seen as great business.
