LFC target Xabi AlonsoFORMER Liverpool FC midfielder Xabi Alonso’s supposed desire to leave his current Real Madrid at the end of the season has sparked interest within Anfield, with the Reds contemplating a bid for the Spaniard, hoping to link him back with Steven Gerrard in central midfield.

However, according to The Sunday People, sources close to the Spanish outfit have said that Alonso, who has enjoyed another fantastic season, is to be offered to two year extension on his contract, in addition to a pay rise, in order to deter him from leaving the Bernabeu.

Alonso has already admitted that he feels his time with Madrid is coming to a close, and the rumour mill seems to be blowing in Liverpool’s direction, amid speculation last month (again from The Sunday People), that Brendan Rodgers had made contact with Alonso’s agent, with a possible £80,000 a week deal in the offing.

Rodgers has turned the team into a side with quick, slick passing and he believes Alonso would be a perfect fit for the system.

In addition to his undeniable ability, Alonso is still revered by Liverpool fans, when he spent 5 years on Merseyside and helped them scoop up the FA Cup and Champions League trophies.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

If a player wants to leave, he can very well reject all contract offers and leave for free at the end of his current ones… Madrid isn’t stupid, and won’t let that happen to a player of Xabi’s value. If he truly wants out, they will have to accept some offer in order to make some money off his transfer. To say they won’t let him leave is, frankly, wrong. However, they can make his price much higher than we would be willing to pay (granted someone else is willing to pay). And even then, you never know… FSG may be unwilling to pay for someone like Sneijder, but Xabi brings much more class and skill to the pitch, not to mention what he means to the fans, and even to some of the players.

And he still loves Liverpool. FSG where never going to spend £8.5M on him at 32 but we have helped him score a couple more years at Madrid and a big wage increase because of our supposed interest. YNWA Xabi.

whatever you do FSG be honest to yourself do you think Liverpool really need him? if not why don’t you just shut your roll or get him cos he is amazing player of course he love Liverpool. However i would take my chance to get him.

    FSG peace out

That’s actually a predicament I’ve been contemplating even when Xabi wasn’t linked (like say he didn’t leave in the first place and Lucas still came good). Where would he start? He isn’t really a true DM, so he wouldn’t take Lucas’ spot. Stevie plays his position now, but isn’t like he was a few years ago and isn’t as effective higher up. Xabi probably isn’t very effective as AM either… So as wrong as this seems, Xabi has no current spot… but that can all change if Stevie regains his driving AM nature!
