Forget Carroll & sign ‘a proper centre-forward’ urges Keegan

GEORDIE Messiah and former Liverpool FC star Kevin Keegan has urged the Reds to sign ‘a proper centre-forward’, after selling Andy Carroll this summer.

Keegan believes Brendan Rodgers will almost certainly sell the £35m striker when he returns from London, despite impressing by scoring 7 goals in his last 15 Premier League matches whilst on loan with West Ham United.

Asked by the Daily Mirror, if he believed Carroll would be given another chance on Merseyside, Keegan stated:

“I think it’s pretty obvious Brendan doesn’t want to. The first thing managers normally do is take a look at the players and then if he wants to loan him out then loan him out at Christmas.

“He got rid of him straight away, so maybe that tells its own story.”

If Liverpool do part company with the former Newcastle United striker, Keegan still feels the Reds would need to sign what he describes as ‘a proper striker’ – despite the club having the ever-impressing Daniel Sturridge, and the phenomenal Luis Suarez on the books, with Fabio Borini as back-up.

“I’m not sure about forwards because they’ve got a lot of them but they’re all the same! They’re all small, quick guys,” continued Keegan.

“They need what I’d call a ‘proper centre-forward’, which none of these are, not Sturridge, Borini, Coutinho – these are all what I’d call second strikers at best.”
