Make or break transfers, and shaping next season’s squad

Brendan Rodgers trainingANOTHER Premier League season has come and gone, and certainly there are much more positives to take away than negatives.

While we have failed in our bid to hold on to a European spot, we can take heart from the fact that Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers have looked like they have figured out their mistakes in the transfer market.

With the players brought in during the January transfer, I like many, am impressed by the displays of both Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge.

With that said, comes one of the most important transfer windows in a long time. It is obvious by watching Liverpool FC’s games that we need a decent centre-back in addition to an effective, quality wide player and possibly a decent striker to keep the likes of Sturridge and Suarez firing. However, the transfer window has always been our Achilles heel, in fact, it has been our somewhat embarrassing as a Liverpool supporter with the kind of business we have done over the years.

I, like many a Liverpool Supporter doubted Brendan Rodgers and a few of his purchases, namely Fabio Borini and Allen, because I do not think Allen is worthy of a place in Liverpool’s starting eleven – in fact I do not see him as being much better than Jay Spearing, and Borini seems not to be able to get over his injury woes.

However, I have since removed those fears and once again thrown my trust completely behind the man who I think will certainly take us back to the pinnacle of European Football.

Rodgers will no doubt have his hands completely full come transfer time, for the main reason of lack of European football, which is a much needed ingredient to attract top class players.

Nevertheless, Liverpool FC is still a massive club with a rich history and there are a lot of quality players out there who need to be playing regular football, and would welcome the opportunity to be a part of a club such as this. However, I think most of the work has already been completed; indeed, Rodgers would be certainly wise to conduct his business as early as possible, with the likes of Ericksen, Ince, Sinclair, and Ben Arfa all rumoured to be on his shortlist to fill the midfield and wide positions respectively.

There is a lot of talk of Ashley Williams to fill the void left by Jamie Carragher’s retirement, but that seems unlikely. Without a doubt Williams is a good defender, but so is Martin Skrtel. What we need is a top class defender; someone in the mould of our own Jamie Carragher, one who not only has game intelligence but also one who is a leader on the pitch.

Certainly, one can’t help but thinking that if Liverpool FC is to mount a serious and meaningful assault on the top four at all, then now is crucial, this transfer window is paramount.

Liverpool already have a core of very good players, only needing the two or three missing pieces and most importantly consistency. In fact if Rodgers, can get this team to play at a consistently high level, then there is absolutely no doubt that we will finish in the top four next season and seasons to come.

My LFC squad for 2013-2014 season …

Reina – staying put

Agger

Tiago Ilori – Strong, reliable

Johnson

Kelly – Better at defending than Enrique

Henderson

Sterling

Shelvey

Ince/Scott Sinclair – Sinclair desperate to play regular football

Remy/Carroll – Remy if he can manage to stay out of jail

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

The thing is we finished 12 points of a top 4 place and 38 points off Manchester United who won the title.

    Yet the top 5 teams:
Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea , Arsenal and Tottenham all have much better squads than us already. And they will all strengthen considerably in the summer.

Moyes will be given £40-£70M to bring in some players for Manchester United
Pellegrini will be given £70-£120M for Man City
If mourinho does take over chelsea as planned, he has a £100M transfer War chest to use in the summer
A Wenger knows this season he has to spend heavily ||, so he will be given £50-£80M to spend this summer
And AVB will be backed heavily this summer also with roughly £40-£60M

Our tight owners need to back B Rodgers heavily with some serious investment £70-£110M over the summer and Januay Transfer Window if we are to compete with those five clubs for the top 4

Rodgers needs to ship out these 8 players this summer: Average hard working players simply not good enough / enough class or quality to regularly perform to a standard needed: 1:GK: B Jones 2:RB: Flanagan 3:CB: Coates 4:CB: Wilson
    5: DM: Spearing 6:RW / RWF: Assaidi 7:FD: Pacheco 8:FD: Borini

And with also the great loyal servant Carragher also hanging his boots after today and Barcelona in desperate need to get our GK , Reina should only be shipped out if club can gain Tello in a swap deal and £3m worth of cash. So they are that should be 10/Ten players who should be shown the exit this year.

And A carroll(23) should not be one of them , he should be recalled back to side and given a fair chance in side and used as clubs plan B in attack as Pan A will not always work our way as we found out this season against the likes of West Brom, Reading, Stoke,Southampton and West Ham

And these 9 players along with Tello and a recalled A Carroll(23) should be brought to the club in the summer:

    1:GK: A Mccarthy(23) Of Reading for £3-£7M

    2:GK: M Vorm(29) Of Swansea for £2-£5M

3: CB: M Richards(25) Of Manchester City for £10-£15M to compete with Skrtel

4:CB: A Pearce(24) Of Reading on a free Transfer to compete with Agger

5:LB: S Umtiti(19) Of Lyon for £3-£7M to compete with Enrique

6:DM: E Capoue(24) Of Toulouse for £6-£9M to compete with Lucas

7:CM: De Guzman(25) Of Villareal for £4-£7M to compete with Allen, Gerrard and Henderson

8: LW / LWF: D Capel(25) Of Sporting Clube De Portugal for £4-£7M to compete with Downing

    9:FD: G Agbonglahor(26) Of A Villa for £5-£8M to compete with Carroll,Sturridge and Suarez

Those nine players would change whole dimension of squad and would bring more class, depth to side: Those 9/nine players would cost the club: between :£32-£65M

And then we could actually challenge Arsenal, Chelsea and Totenham for a top 3 to 4th position in the league. As the two Mnchester Clubs at the moment are quite a considerable amount better than everyone below them.
