So That’s It Then….

Jamie Carragher LFC KopAND with the final whistle against Queens Park on Sunday, we saw the curtain come down on what has been a particularly mixed season for Liverpool Football Club.

We’ve seen a few real gems unearthed, both home-grown and brought in from the outside, in Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom and one or two others.

We’ve seen our greatest and craziest go from the sublime to the, frankly, quite ridiculous in biting an opposition player’s arm before going on to miss the rest of the season and almost a quarter of next with a hefty suspension.

We’ve seen one of the club’s great servants retire following his final game on Sunday afternoon, going so close to scoring a spectacular 35 yard effort to mark the occasion.

Then we’ve also seen the Reds take part in what was (to my knowledge, anyway) the first of its kind, fly-on-the-wall football documentary. Although, to even call it a documentary would be frankly ridiculous, given the farcical nature of the thing.

In many ways Brendan Rodgers’ appearances in the show perfectly sum up the way Liverpool’s season has gone, in that he (and his team) talk the talk but fall short when it matters most.
[ad_pod id=”unruly-video” align=”center”]
Still, he’s had his first full season now and should have found his feet. Next season will be the real test and will bring with it much greater scrutiny should the team once again flatter to deceive.

That said, the season finished on a positive note, with the Reds going unbeaten in each of the last 8 league games, even though far too many of those were draws.

Much improvement is needed ahead of next season and finishing 6th will not be acceptable, particularly given the lack of added European football but we’ve finished the season in good form and with a lot of promising young players on our books.

Some further strengthening over the summer should stand the club in good stead for when the new season begins and hopefully, we can go into the summer and actually not dread the new season starting as we have done in the past few years.

Roll on the 2013-14 season.

The perfectly good winning goal that Suarez scored at goodison park which was wrongly ruled out for “offside” stopped Liverpool finishing above everton.

Liverpool DO look a better team this season that under Kenny last season, but need more consistency and if we are nowhere come christmas Rodgers needs to GO.

  • Philly says:

Most disappointing season in my lifetime. I’m so happy it’s over. Rodgers has had time ( too much in many opinions) and a lot of money
There can be no excuses next season

  • stephen says:

i tink i’ll go wit u on dis no excuses nst season

  • Erin says:

Please fsg. Do not sign anymore Swansea players. And have a chat with BR. If he stays, and looks like it. There will be no excuses next season. This season has been a bad one. No matter how BR spins it. Out of cups. Crap substitutions, not a single win against a top 4 side. In fact, one lucky win against spurs is NOT acceptable .

  • David Tobin says:

Our worst season in over 50 years , and a manager who seems way out of his depth.

If FSG don’t do the correct thing and sack him , then we better hope he is over his learning curve
We have listened to 10 months of excuses , he can’t be allowed any more next season

  • imraan says:

the seasons over, BR was given this season to acclimitise to Liverpool . Hes signed very poor players Allen , Borin and brilliant players i.e. Coutino .
This season FSG has to back him and REALLY in TRUTH the scouting team with funds to buy players or we will know what their agenda is ………………….
But if they do BR MUST come up with the GOODS , Top 4 …im not saying win the league just yet BUT TOP 4 with this current team and some very decent signings , without any Europe to distract us TOP 4 ….No More Excuses after this BR …Top 4 or u out …………………..

  • Keith says:

Phew , thankfully that season has ended , a more disappointing one I can’t remember.
I can’t see any improvement from Kennys reign but we hope that Brendan knows what he is doing and will put it right.
Two players I would like see replaced are downing and allen , neither are good enough for lfc

  • Bob says:

    7 out of 10 me for BR’s 1st season.
HAS – instilled his style of play & improved team performances.
HAS – delivered an excellent Jan trf window.
DID – threaten Enrique, Hendo & Downing in Dec & get improvements.
THREW all 3 cups away with terrible team choices.
DUBIOUS buys in Allen & Borini.
VERY thin squad when he took over.

Good enough 1st season to build upon & get everyone’s full support. Summer business crucial, little room for error. Must see continued improvement nxt season. Top 5 challenge.

  • Dean Fitzpatrick says:

People need to realize we are never gonna win the league or finish in top 4 again, come on lets be honest.we have fallen from dat level.players like Allen, borini, nobody to replace carra wen the club hav known for a couple of years dat it was coming to the end for him,a mid table minded manager, the list goes on.

  • Carl says:

I had high hopes for BR . But I have been left largely disappointed .

Apart from his dubious signings , In my opinion he has serious tactical and man-management shortcomings

I don’t think a club of Liverpools stature should ever have hired a man learning his trade , and I’m not convinced he is the man to take us forward

Anyhow he has had his bedding in period , he needs to produce the results next season

    • Erin says:

FSG should ask him for a dossier, detailing his learning curve. I guess what he learned was that he is no longer at Swansea. And we won’t be swansealona. We are liverpool and expect results not excuses. If he is unconvincing, sack him, bring a proven top 4 manager and serial winner back . Any ideas?

    • kumber says:

please outline some of these tactical and man-management short commings that you talk about.

      thanks

      • Erin says:

Tactical? Explain zenit st Petersburg subs and Everton, enter skertel? Midfielder for defender?

Explain, the treatment of Martin skertel and the pursuit of Williams!

        • David Tobin says:

Don’t waste your time Erin . K is the local troll who asks everybody silly questions because he doesnt have the brains to cop them himself

        • Kumber says:

The subs against zenit were purely to keep the intensity high, it was our intensity that was causing them the most problems. Right choice. We went out more so to carra’s back pass then Rodgers management. Do you blame carra for that. We won the game 3.1 and you put it down to the manager. The first game how many chances did we miss time after time, and despite what most think on here missed chances is down to the players and the players only.

Everton I think he got wrong, but I can c what he was trying to do. He wanted the wide players to hug the touch line and open out the pitch but did not want to get caught on the counter down the middle. So 3 at the back was the way to go with the wingback pushed high up the field.

As for skrtel last season was his first year infront of carra in the pecking order. Sure he use to step in for agger when he was out but he was mainly a stand In. He had a good season and well done to him. But outside of that season skirtel was never seen as a top centre half. He is a brute and a good defender but not good enough for lfc.

          Just my opinion

And for that person David Tobin
Do you know the meaning of troll?
You have on a few occasions called me clueless and said I don’t know any thing about football. I call you a comic genious and you then call me a troll.
          Pot kettle I do believe.
At least Erin can put forward an argument and an opinion when asked unlike you and the rest of the prawn sandwich crew. Who just attack people who have a diffrent opinion to yours.

          • davidm tobin says:

Your just a troll k arguing everyones points . Your clueless about football and simply make up pathetic excuses

Our club doesnt need clueless armchair fans like yourself . Your certainty not scouse and I doubt you have e ever been to anfield

          • Kumber says:

I guess you didn’t look up the definition of troll did you.

This site works on arguments and debate, so me asking why people think what they think and arguing against the views I disagree with is what this site is about. I have no problem with people on here that have a different opinion than mine. It’s people like you who post crap about the owners, players and management all the time get to me I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with it if it was your opinion but it is not you just read it some where else and regurgitated it. You don’t have an opinion or a personality you just exist.

He we go again any thing but football.

I don’t consider my self scouse.
I moved to Liverpool when I was 7.
Still live there even tho I work in London 5 days a week.
As for going to games I am not blessed with a season ticket but I do get to between 6 and 10 home games and a few away games a season.
I would guess that this is more of the same regurgitated crap that you endlessly put on this site.

          • davidm tobin says:

The meaning of a troll in my opinion is someone who continually criticizes and who puts down other people’s opinions ….that’s you

I have no problem with people with differing opinions , but I have no time for someone like you who trolls others opinions and lies to back up his limited knowledge

You don’t have the insight to credibly talk about football so you blatantly lie ( eg Rodgers was in for michu) to suit your arguments

If you want to debate I would seriously advise you to get some mates , although with your personality I doubt that’s easy

          • kumber says:

            TROLL (yahoo)

Trolls, don’t answer questions nicely, and when they do answer the questions the way they do (with the intent to inflict emotional pain or cause trouble), they say they are only stating their opinion or how they feel.

the meaning of troll in you opinion, come on you dont have independent thought so you cant have an opinion now can you.

how can you say that you dont have a problem with people who dont share the same opinion as you when most of your posts you are calling some one clueless and telling them the have no football knowledge you plank.

i dont have the insight to credibly talk about football so i blatantly lie. i never said rodgers tried to sign michu i said that swansea were watching him while rodgers was in-charge.
now who is telling the lies to suit there arguement.

also im not the one who is going around bashing the manager saying that he tactically inept. as if i know more about the game then him. people how know football inside out picked rodgers not fsg. football expert.

i do debate with my friends (why i rarely post friday and saturday nights) now and again we do fall out over stupid crap, but i tell you what not one of us is like you (a yes man) someone who agree with the nearest person to him and dosent have the ball to have indenpendent thought.

YOU SIR ARE THE DEFINITION OF A YES MAN!

          • Erin says:

Not blaming carra at all. The game was going really well and the intensity was just fine. As soon as the subs came on V Zenit, it took the sting out of the game and give them breathing space.
Rogers described it as a fantastic performance….which for anyone who didnt see the game, must have meant we won the match. He got it badly wrong.

As for Skertel. He has been class for us in more than one season. The only one he hasnt perfomed is the one Rogers took over. Coincidentally, Reina hasnt performed either (but still good enough to be linked with Barcelona) .

Enough excuses and blaming players for the managers shortcomings. That Rogers thinks Williams is a better option for us, speaks volumes about the man’s knowledge. But then again, he himself admitted to being an amateur manager on a learning curve. What has my club come to? i have been a supporter for 20 years. utterly embarrassing.
Next season, deliver (i mean learn from mistakes because currently, he is not up to the job)or walk away.

  • Murt says:

No doubt about it ,the season has been frustrating ,Rodgers inability to change a game thats slipping is nothing less than alarming, hopefully he will be able to learn from that fairly rapid ,also we have enough Swansea players at this stage,Sturridge & Coutinho have been a great acquisitions,Downing & Enrique are average at best & should be replaced or benched, then we have Allen & Borini that look very dodgy to say the least. We need 2 or 3 astute purchases especially in defence/mid.,i would expect the new scouts to act quickly to bring in the players needed. Also Wisdom,Kelly ,Sterling,Ibe, Morgan should be involved more next season. The outlook has to look like improving by Jan or B.R will feel the heat, every result will be closely examined by the fans more so next term.

  • bob says:

next season cant be worse than this season . its a win win situation .
either – rodgers surprises us all and produces a top 4 good team and i will gladly swallow some humble pie if that happens

, or he gets sacked by xmas , and then we can get back to being a decent team againafter that

i know which one my money is on

  • Yasin mullah ali says:

Rodgers first season fnshed 61 points those are points more than benites, houlier n n othr managers first season.oh again he had a thin squad that he depended on reserve.if u got a problem with lfc n think its not going to be in top 4 chelsuck is the right place 4 u.#clueles *#

    • StevieG says:

      That’s not really true
Houillier first full season we came 4th with 67 points
Rafa first season we came 5th with 58 points but we won the champions league

So both were better than Rodgers by a mile

  • scouse ed says:

Dreadful season . Thank feck it’s over. Worse than last season without doubt.

  • bj says:

As for me I have nothing against BR. Sell shelvey, henderson for quality players dat can offer us more than they both can offer . Hopefully next season is ours for d top n no slipping up. #ynwa

Another insane idiotic post. You are a troll.

And you need to grow up

      • kumber says:

you are right, it is idiotic of me to think you would Wright one intelligent post .
        i am sorry for trying

Post a link to show Rodgers was aware or interested in michu .

You cant because you made it up

Your just a comical troll , post the link to prove me wrong

Until then I wouldn’t waste my time with you

Total bellend kumber !!! Funny though

    • Kumber says:

Steve where were you when you were called out the other day? Hiding under you bed I guess.

For your comment see previous page, switch you name with David Tobin’s ( you lot are all reading from the same script) and argument over. You been spanked again.

      INDEPENDENT THOUGHT LADIES.

Trolling again kumber. Where is that link ? Or you going to admit you made it up just like you make the rest of it up
